  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop and test an explanatory model for sleep disorders in people with cancer. A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of a review of previous studies, literature, and sleep models, and 10 latent variables were used to construct a hypothetical model. Methods: Data were collected from April 19 to June 25, 2010, using self-report questionnaires. The sample was 291 outpatients with cancer who visited the oncology cancer center at a university hospital. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS Win 15.0 program for descriptive statistics and correlation analysis and AMOS 7.0 program for covariance structural analysis. Results: It appeared that overall fit index was good as ${\chi}^2/df=1.162$, GFI=.969, AGFI=.944, SRMR=.052, NFI=.881, NNFI=.969, CFI=.980, RMSEA=.024, CN=337 in the modified model. The explanatory power of this model for sleep disorders in people with cancer was 62%. Further, sleep disorders were influenced directly by cancer symptom experience, dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep, and past sleep pattern. Conclusion: Findings suggest that nurses should assess past sleep pattern and consider the development of a comprehensive nursing intervention program to minimize the cancer symptom experience, dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep, and thus, reduce sleep disorders in people with cancer.

  • The IoE service process for maximizing efficiency of information storage and utilization classifies in step five which are interconnected, data collection, storage, organize, analyze, and share. Two key processing elements are store and forward. Keeping the useful knowledge in safe location is "store processing", and utilization of stored useful knowledge is defined as "forward processing" during the IoE service process. Where, past experience data can tell us how to prepare the future utilization. That is, past experience is organized store processing, and preparation for the future is shared forward processing through analysis. To maximize the utilization and storage of information effectively, the various methodologies for IoE service process propose and research in this paper.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify nursing college students' attitudes towards death and was conducted as a pre-investigation to prepare them for coping with terminally ill patients in their clinical practice. Methods: The subjects consisted of 321 nursing students. Their attitudes towards death were measured by using the Collett-Lester Fear of Death Scale(CLFODS). The data obtained were analyzed by using the one-wayANOVA and Duncan's multiple test using the SAS 9.2 soft ware program. Results: The mean CLFODS score was 2.99. Among the 4 subscales, there were significant differences among the students with respect to grade, indirect experience of death, social isolation, daily life stress, and suicidal ideation in the past year. Conclusion: A negative attitude towards death was observed in the psychosocial characteristics, with indirect experience of death, social isolation, daily life stress, and suicidal ideation in the past year. It is necessary to educate students on how to care for dying patients before clinical practice. This education can be carried out by developing a death education program after considering the above mentioned psychosocial characteristics noted in this study.
