  • Laboratory pullout tests were conducted to evaluate pullout performance of steel strip reinforcements with deformed steel bars as transverse members. The steel strip reinforcement has an installation hole to assemble a deformed steel bar. Jumunjin standard sand is used to form a relative density of ground model to 80%. Frictional resistance of steel strip reinforcement without transverse member increases sharply at the initial displacement and quickly decreases with displacement. Maximum frictional resistance increases linearly as normal pressure increasing, and soil-reinforcement interaction friction angle(${\rho}_{peak}$) of a steel strip reinforcement is estimated to $14.64^{\circ}$. Passive resistance increases with displacement and converge into maximum passive resistance in most cases. Maximum passive resistance increases linearly as normal pressure increasing irrespective of shape of the steel reinforcement. Pullout force of steel strip reinforcements with installation holes or transverse members largely increases about 4 to 7 times compared to frictional resistance force of steel strip reinforcements when embedment length($L_e$) of steel strip reinforcements is 500 mm. In the case of using 2 transverse members, interference effect is observed due to the spacing of 2 transverse members and location of assembly holes and transverse members.

  • Recently, many people have been damaged seriously by construction noise. Accordingly, there have been increased the complaints and disputes. These complaints should be controlled strictly. Otherwise there could be delays or stops of project and losses of time and money. For this reasons, the Korean government is trying to convert from depending on the soundproof wall to noise control system focusing on noise sources. However, it is difficult to control the noise which is generated from construction site because construction equipment has very high noise level and construction noise generates temporarily and irregularly. Also, people do not know how much low frequency affect human body adversely because they cannot perceive low frequency noise easily. Hence, recently developed countries have conducted the research on the low frequency noise which damages on human physically and mentally. However, passive noise control is insufficient to reduce the low frequency noise, but only efficient to lower the high frequency noise. Thus, an approach which can complement limitations of passive noise control is needed. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to suggest the noise management model using active noise control on construction site. Also, ANC simulation has been conducted to examine its applicability on construction equipment. As a result, it is expected that there will be a reduction of construction noise and demages, as well as both mental and physical damages.

  • It was studied to analyze the $CO_2$, CO, $SO_2$ standard gases of combustion gases by the open path FT-IR spectrometer with passive mode for remote analysis of air pollutant and volcano gases without IR lamp. As result, it was confirmed to have good linearity with more than 0.9 as correlation coefficients on the calibration curve of $CO_2$, CO concentration by MLR method. But in the case of $SO_2$, because the correlation coefficients were 0.88, the linearity could be lower. Finally, the concentration of three gases was predicted on in-site fire experiment under the condition of quantitative analysis. It could measure high $CO_2$ concentration as predicted result, but didn't measure the CO and $SO_2$. According to the result, it was possible to measure the combustion gases to long distance by only open path FT-IR spectrometer without infrared lamp.

  • At the time when zero energy building is expected to be generalized, this study examines whether the investment in the passive element or the active element is more effective in terms of energy in the construction process of zero energy building. In other words, the effect of energy demand by passive element and the change of energy generation by active element are examined in terms of the same investment cost. The purpose of this study is to examine the change of energy demand by passive element and the change of energy generation by active element in zero energy building and to make reasonable investment decision by comparing energy with cost aspect. For this purpose, we selected the buildings to be subjected to energy simulation and derive the required energy amount and energy generation amount by using meteorological data of four regions in Korea. The change of energy demand and energy generation according to the change of application condition was derived. In order to compare and analyze the changes in energy demand and generation at the same cost standard through price survey and quotation of window and photovoltaic power generation equipment.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of an FM radio based passive radar in the presence of deception jamming such as false-target generation. To do this, we examine the effects of applying the deception jamming signal to the passive radar through the derivation of the construction of the amplitude-range-Doppler(ARD) plot. The analysis results show that applying the deception jamming signal with the low power similar to the target echo signal generates false targets at positions set by the jamming variables compared to the real target position in the ARD plot. Also, it is possible to induce the jamming effect so that only false targets are detected by selecting appropriate jamming power. Simulations are included to verify the theoretical results and to discuss on the effectiveness of the deception jamming on the FM radio based passive radar.

  • Closed steel supports of different shapes are used in mining and underground constructions. The supports are prefabricated from rolled, usually robust, steel profiles. The load carrying capacity of a support is considerably influenced by the active loading and passive forces. The passive forces are induced by interactions between the support and the surrounding rock mass. The analysis herein comprises three parts: The first part consists of structural geometry processing. The second part involves finding the numerical solution of a statically indeterminate structure for a specified load. The third part is calculation of the load carrying capacity and the components of internal forces and deformations. For this, the force method and numerical integration are used. The Winkler model is applied when the support interacts with the surrounding environment. The load carrying capacity is limited by the slip resistance of the connected parts and it is limited by reaching the ultimate state of the profile. This paper serves as a comprehensive reference for the determination of the load carrying capacity of closed steel supports and includes stepwise derivations of the governing formulas.

  • The solid-state reference electrodes made of polyaniline-coated MnO2 (SSRE-PAM) and their electrochemical characteristics were studied in simulated concrete pore solutions (SCPS) containing 0 and 3.5% NaCl. Saturated calomel electrodes (SCE) have been used to conduct electrochemical studies on the stability behavior of SSRE-PAM. Open circuit potential (OCP) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques were used to assess the corrosion performance of steel rebar exposed in SCPS with 0 and 3.5% NaCl using SSRE-PAM. The results demonstrate that the SSRE-PAM was capable of identifying steel rebar in a concrete environment that was either passive or active. Potentiodynamic polarization parameters such as Ecorr and Icorr for steel rebar in SCPS containing 0 and 3.5%)NaCl are greater than that of the passive condition (0% NaCl). All the studies validate the importance of using SSRE-PAM for corrosion monitoring applications in concrete structures.

  • In the capital of Mongolia where the air quality is getting worse due to the coal consumption used for electricity generation and district heating, the application of geothermal systems in the housing sector is recently designed for high class resort. In this study, the case of applying a geothermal system in a house in Mongolia is examined. The effects of passive house design on the needed heat pump capacity, as well as the annual energy consumption are analyzed. Moreover, as the initial costs, except labor fee, are assumed similar to Korea, cost analysis for several cases is examined, too. From the results, if a house is designed according to passive house standard instead of ASHRAE standard, the heat pump capacity can be expected to be reduced from 16 to 5~6 RT. Furthermore, although the initial cost of architectural cost might increased by 29 M\, the total initial cost is reduced by 14 M\, while the annual energy consumption is reduced by 14%. This is mainly driven by the fact that the geothermal system which serves as the main system to cover the building needs, with a high initial cost for fulfilling the peak requirements.
