Objective: This research was carried out to investigate the effects of corn particle size on the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of energy and nutrients fed to pigs at four different growth stages and therefore to provide basis for better application of corn in pig feeds. Methods: Eighteen weanling piglets, 18 growing barrows, 24 gestating sows and 24 lactating sows were used in this study. Within each stage, pigs were allotted to 1 of 3 or 4 corn-soybean meal diets which were formulated with different corn particle size in a completely randomized design with 6 replicate pigs per diet. Each stage lasted for 19 days, including 7 days for cages adaptation, 7 days for adaptation to diets and followed by 5 days for total collection of feces and urine. Results: For nursery and growing stages, the results showed that digestible energy content and ATTD of gross energy (GE), dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) was increased (p<0.05) as the corn particle size reduced. Meanwhile, the metabolizable energy content and ATTD of crude protein (CP) tended to increase. For gestating sows, no differences were found in the ATTD of nutrients among dietary treatments. As for lactating sows, there were linear and quadratic increases (p<0.05) in the ATTD of DM, GE, NDF as the corn being finer milled. Quadratic response in ATTD of ADF and CP (p<0.05) were observed as sows fed with four different diets. Conclusion: Reducing corn particle size can increase digestibility of nutrients fed to young pigs and lactating sows. No effects were observed in present experiment when gestating sows were fed with different particle sized corn.

To find a suitable oxygen carrier particle for a 50kW chemical-looping combustor, which was designed and installed to demonstrate continuous oxidation and reduction, three oxygen carrier particles(NiO/bentonite, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$, $CoO_x/CoAl_2O_4$) were prepared. The reactivity and the attrition resistance of particles were measured and investigated by a thermo-gravimetrical analyzer and an attrition test apparatus respectively. From the viewpoints of oxygen transfer capacity, optimum reaction temperature(operating temperature range), reaction rate, carbon deposition rate, and attrition resistance, NiO/bentonite particle showed better performance than the other particles, therefore we selected NiO/bentonite particle as an optimum oxygen carrier particle.
Techniques of thermal analyses such as DSC and TGA have been used in the study of activation energy (Ea) and frequency factor (A) depending on the particle size of RDX and HMX. Activation energy and frequency factor were calculated by Kissinger's method and Vyazovkin's method. As the particle size of RDX increased, TGA showed activation energy increased, but DSC didn't show. However, In case of HMX, as the particle size increased, both of DSC and TGA showed increase in activation energy. Moreover, Vyazovkin's method can obtain activation energy and mechanism according to decomposition of RDX and HMX.

Effects of temperature, volatile content, particle diameter and solid input weight were investigated in the batch fluidized bed reactor using OCN703-1100 particle as oxygen carrier and Roto coal and char as fuels. Two solid fuels represented the best reactivity at different temperature, $900^{\circ}C$ for Roto coal and $950^{\circ}C$ for char, respectively. However, we selected $900^{\circ}C$ as the best operating temperature because the improvement of reactivity of char at $950^{\circ}C$ was negligible. Char represented better reactivity than Roto coal because char contains low volatile than Roto coal. For both solid fuels, reactivities were improved with increasing of the particle diameter. These results were explained by solid mixing tests in a transparent fluidized bed using two char particles having different particle size ranges and OCN703-1100 particle. The bigger particle showed better solid mixing with OCN703-1100 particle, and therefore, represented better reactivity. For both solid fuels, reactivities were improved with increasing of the solid input weight within the experimental conditions of this study because the weight of coarse particles increased with the solid input weight increased, and therefore, these coarse particles can mix well with the oxygen carrier.

The secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) of the cathode is an important factor for improving the discharge characteristics of AC-PDP, because of its close relationship to discharge voltage. In this experiment, we have investigated the electronic structure of the energy band in the MgO layer responsible for the high ${\gamma}$. We used three kinds of MgO pellet that have another component, and each MgO layers have been deposited by electron beam evaporation method. The work-functions of MgO layer have been investigated from their ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$), respectively, using various ions with different ionization energies in a ${\gamma}-FIB$ (Focused Ion Beam) system. We have compared work-function with ${\gamma}-FIB$ system current signal for measurement defect energy level in MgO layer. MgO-A in the three types has lowest work-function value (4.12eV) and there are two defect energy levels.

The effects of argon neutral beam (NB) energy on the amorphous carbon (a-C) films were investigated, while the a-C films were deposited by neutral particle beam assisted sputtering (NBAS) system. The energy of neutral particle beam can be controlled by reflector bias voltage directly as a unique operating parameter in this system. The deposition characteristics of the films investigated of Raman spectra, UV-visible spectroscopy, electrical conductivity, stress measurement system, and ellipsometer indicate the properties of amorphous carbon films can be manipulated by only NB energy (or reflector bias voltage) without changing any other process parameters. We report the effect of reflector bias voltage in the range from 0 to -1KV. By the increase of the reflector bias voltage, the amount of cross-linked sp2 clusters as well as the sp3 bonding in the a-C film coated by the NBAS system can be increased effectively and the composition of carbon thin films can be changed from nano-crystalline graphite phase to amorphous carbon phase.
Mechanical alloying under various gas atmospheres such as Ar, an Ar-$H_2$ mixture, and He gases were carried out, and its effects on the powder properties, microstructure and mechanical properties of ODS ferritic steels were investigated. Hot isostatic pressing and hot rolling processes were employed to consolidate the ODS steel plates. While the mechanical alloyed powder in He had a high oxygen concentration, a milling in Ar showed fine particle diameters with comparably low oxygen concentration. The microstructural observation revealed that low oxygen concentration contributed to the formation of fine grains and homogeneous oxide particle distribution by the Y-Ti-O complex oxides. A milling in Ar was sufficient to lower the oxygen concentration, and this led a high tensile strength and fracture elongation at a high temperature. It is concluded that the mechanical alloying atmosphere affects oxygen concentration as well as powder particle properties. This leads to a homogeneous grain and oxide particle distribution with excellent creep strength at high temperature.
Thermite welding is an exceptional process that does not require additional energy supplies, resulting in welded joints that exhibit mechanical properties and conductivity equivalent to those of the parent materials. The global adoption of thermite welding is growing across various industries. However, in Korea, limited research is being conducted on the core technology of thermite welding. Currently, domestic production of thermite powder in Korea involves recycling copper oxide (CuO). Unfortunately, controlling the particle size of waste CuO poses challenges, leading to the unwanted formation of pores and cracks during thermite welding. In this study, we investigate the influence of powder particle size on thermite welding in the production of Cu-thermite powder using waste CuO. We conduct the ball milling process for 0.5-24 h using recycled CuO. The evolution of the powder shape and size is analyzed using particle size analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, we examine the thermal reaction characteristics through differential scanning calorimetry. Additionally, the microstructures of the welded samples are observed using optical microscopy and SEM to evaluate the impact of powder particle size on weldability. Lastly, hardness measurements are performed to assess the strengths of the welded materials.

Particle contamination on the data storage disks has been a serious problem for magnetic hard disk drive manufacturers. For high storage optical disks, such as DVD-ROM/RAM or NFR (near field recording) system, particle-induced damages can be also detected because only a few micrometer particles can prevent read/write signal from optical lens. The increasing areal density and smaller bit size accelerates particle induced damages on the optical disk. One of the methods to prevent particle contamination on the optical disk surface is to handle the disk enclosed in a cartridge like a modern DVD-RAM disk. However, even for a perfectly sealed disk drive, particles are found inside the drive. The other method is to improve disk surface characteristics. Particle contamination on the surface can be reduced by proper selection of disk coating materials. [n this paper, particle detachment ratios for CD (compact disk), DVD (digital versatile disk), HD (magnetic hard disk), HD with Jut lubricant, and aluminosilicate substrate HD were investigated. Surface roughness and surface energy of the test disks were compared with the particle detachment ratios. Proper substrate and lubricant characteristics to reduce particle contamination on the disk surface were found.
