Purpose: This paper explores diverse issues related to the problem of women's unpaid domestic care work, and as a factor of gender inequality in their professional practice. Research Design: This article concentrated only on the analysis of secondary data available on the topic along with observation of facts in Kazakhstan based on diverse sources. In current conditions, the problem of women's unpaid domestic care work, and consequently, the lack of enough time and energy for professional employment. Distinguish domestic work vs. job/career/occupation, self-fulfillment, education, and leisure has a significant impact on women's life satisfaction. Data, and Methodology: This article focuses only on secondary data available in different sources from which the researchers procures comprehensive data and information. Results and conclusion: A family policy that aims to promote combining maternity, and domestic work with paid employment is an effective way to increase the proportion of working mothers/women. It is crucial to not only proportionally distribute the household responsibilities in the family but also to form an effective mechanism of state support for women through the development of the social services sector, as well as the adoption of a system-wide approach to gender equality.
This paper examines the delayed situations for gender equality in South Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese families despite the challenge to the gender division of labor in modern society, and to analyze the contradiction between the notions of gender equality and the experiences women face in East Asia countries. Using EASS data, we analyze the effective difference over the division of household labor according to women's age and length of school time, attitude for gender division of labor, couple's labor time, and family network. In South Korea and Taiwan, men's actual ratio of household division is higher than Japanese men's. On the other hand, Japanese women's ratio of household division is the highest in spite of their progressive attitude for gender equality. It is due to the difference of women's working time among the countries. In South Korea and Taiwan, women tend to work in full time job, so that they seem to inevitably reduce the time for household labor. The family characteristics have an effect on the women's ratio of household division in Taiwan, and the feature of women's employment does in South Korea. The high percentage of three-generation household contributes to the reduction of housework burden in Taiwan. In South Korea, the higher women's education levels, the higher the women's ratio of household division. Women's weakened bargaining power for household labor is due to the relatively low level of high-educated women's economic participation in South Korea. This paper reveals the effective factors on the gender division of household labor. We propose the necessity of the macro-level analysis as well as the analysis of the personal and conjugal feature.
By analyzing wave 1~11 (1998~2008) of Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) database, this study examines the effects of household characteristics and poverty duration on poverty exit. A special concern is to decide whether the decrease of poverty exit rates comes from true duration dependency or from the sample heterogeneity as poverty duration progresses. I also analyzed how the effects of independent variables are changed when unobserved heterogeneity is controlled. The results show that duration dependency disappears after controlling observed household characteristics and unobserved individual heterogeneity. This finding confirms that the apparent relationship between poverty exit rate and poverty duration is in fact a spurious association due to the sample heterogeneity rather than true duration dependency. In addition, the effects of household characteristics on poverty exit rate become more stronger when unobserved heterogeneity is controlled. Socioeconomic factors affecting poverty exit rates are such as householders' age, education, household composition, number of family members, labor force participation, and work status.

Work and family life affect each other. Especailly in a corporate-centered society the impact of work on the family is very strong. Organigational sexrole culture is used not only as a method of business management, but also as a style of family living. The Purpose of this study was to analyze an effect of occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husband on the family life. Data for 214 husbands were gathered from the structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) According to the occupation, organizational sexrole culture of husbands is very different. (2) The occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husbands have an important effect on their life time structure. (3) The occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husbands effect on their participation rate of household labor. These results suggested that husbands’ occupation and organization sexrole culture have a significant effect on the family life.

The concept of household labor is composed of housework and family care, and it provides a framework for understanding daily life from the perspective of work-life balance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the household labor time of Korean adults by gender and generation over the last 20 years. Data was taken from the five Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys from 1999 (t1) to 2019 (t5) (n=69,196). The major results are as follows: first, gender and generation were found to have a significant relationship with household labor time over the study period. Household labor time for females was 3.8 times that of males in 1999, but females' household labor time decreased over the next 20 years while males' increased, including both housework and family care. The female participation rate in household work also remained steady, while that for males increased. Second, in the younger and middle generations, a similar gender and generational pattern was seen. Third, in the older generation, household time and participation rates for both females and males increased. The family welfare policy and theoretical implications of these results are discussed.
Using the Korea Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS) from 2000 to 2008, we estimate the Frisch elasticity of labor supply. Our point estimates of the intensive margin elasticity are around 0.23. The estimates are not sensitive to changes in household income and assets as well as changes in workweek regulation during the sample period that workers shall work for 5 days per week from Monday to Friday. We also estimate the extensive margin elasticity by considering labor market participation. We find that the point estimates at the extensive margin are greater than those at the intensive margin, but not statistically significant.
The self-employment can provide work time flexibility. Work time flexibility would be a critical factor for married females' labor supply considering allocation of their time to market work and household work. This study used the 1998 and 2000 Korea Labor and Income Panel Survey for the empirical analyses. Applying the bivariate probit model with partial observability, this study analyzed factors related to the choice of participation in labor market and choice of self-employment. Also, this study examined the effects of marriage and the presence of younger children on changes in decisions related to labor supply using the multinomial logit model: exit from the labor market, increasing and decreasing work hours. The presence of the younger children showed a significantly negative effect on the participation in labor market while positive, but insignificant, effect on self-employment. Compared with females working for others, self-employers without employees and unpaid family workers are less likely to exit labor market rather than increasing work hours. The self-employment would be a good alternative to evade females' career interruption and therefore to enhance the potential human resources.
Objectives: This study investigated sleep quality in female full-time homemakers and evaluated the relationship of sleep disturbance with psychological and socio-environmental factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study adopted a structured survey and sequential recruitment method for randomized participation of community-dwelling full-time female homemakers. Sleep quality and mental health were measured using the Korean version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (K-PSQI), Korean version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (K-BDI-II), Korean version of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (K-BAI), and Korean version of the Beck Hopelessness Scale (K-BHS). The willingness-to-pay (WTP) method was selected to measure the self-evaluated monetary value of household service work. The relationship among the main relevant factors was statistically analyzed through a mediation model. Results: A total of 166 participants were analyzed and classified having poor versus good sleep quality (poor : 24.1%, n = 40 ; good : 75.9%, n = 126 ; cut-off point = 9 on the K-PSQI). Significant between-group differences were observed in mental health status (K-BDI-II, p < 0.001 ; K-BAI, p < 0.001 ; K-BHS, p = 0.003). The moderated mediation model was verified, indicating that depression may mediate the association between nurturing burden and sleep disturbance. The path from nurturing burden to depression may be moderated by average monthly household income. Conclusion: A relatively high portion of full-time female homemakers may suffer from sleep disturbance and interactions between psychological and socio-environmental factors might determine sleep quality, suggesting the need for public health policies targeting improvement of sleep quality and mental health among full-time homemakers.

This study describes behavioral characteristics of Korean population over twenty years old in a variety of activities of daily living by analyzing the raw data of the time use survey provided by Statistics Korea (KOSTAT). Seven activities and forty four sub-activities of daily living were selected for analysis : personal care, employment, household care, family care, voluntary work and community participation, social life, recreation and leisure, and travel. In order to quantitatively understand how Korean adults spend their time for a day and how their lifestyle changes over time, we collected the time recorded by 3,673 respondents in three surveys over the past ten years (in 1999, 2004, and 2009). Then, we performed analysis of variance to compare the behavioral characteristics by user age and gender based on the mean time of each activity. The differences in behavior among user groups and over time could be used to design ergonomic products and services based on user experience, especially for universal design of housing and transportation facilities.

Focusing on increasing of single-person households this study aims to develop a scale to measure the healthiness of lifestyle among single-person households. The concept of healthiness of lifestyle is based on the theories of family strength and family ecology. We draw 50 items that encompass basic needs, individual, familial, and social aspects of single-person life. Using a sample of 317 persons who live alone, this study examined a factor structure of the items and selected 44 items based on the results of factor analysis. Reliability and criterion- and construct validity were also examined. The final scale consists of four domains; basic needs (finance, housing, consumption, and future plan), work·life balance (time management, health, and stress), family relations, and social participation (social network, social interests, and community participation). This scale can be used as an assessment measure of the healthiness of lifestyle of single persons who participate in programs in Healthy and Multicultural Families Support Centers.
