Muscle rupture is not a common disease. But it is known that partial muscle rupture commonly occurs to active sports athletes or heavy workers who receive severe physical stress. Gastrocnemius muscle rupture(this is called ‘tennis leg’)is often caused by sudden overstretching of the muscle through concomitant ankle dorsiflexion and knee extension. This rupture may result in a swelling and pain that is easily confused with other diseases like thrombophlebitis. Ultrasonography can confirm the clinical suspicion of tennis leg and the assessment of the size of the lesion, and can discriminate from other diseases. So it is a useful, noninvasive, low-cost modality to diagnose and follow up tennis leg. We experienced 2 cases of partial gastrocnemius muscle rupture patients who were treated by conservative methods or acupuncture therapy and followed up with Ultrasonography, and arrived at some interesting results, which we report along with a review of some relevant literature.

Gastrocnemius muscle partial rupture is a common muscle injury. This case is report on a patient with a gastrocnemius muscle partial rupture who was continuously observed with ultrasonography while receiving Korean medicine treatment. Acupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture, herbal medicine, physical therapy and rehabilitation treatment were performed on a patient diagnosed with gastrocnemius partial rupture. The improvement of symptoms was evaluated using Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Range of Motion (ROM) of ankle, circumference of calf and size of hematoma by using ultrasonography. NRS decreased more than 90%, ROM of ankle joint gradually improved, calf circumference improved, and hematoma reduced by more than 90% when measured by ultrasonography. In this study, gastrocnemius muscle partial rupture was observed with ultrasonography, and it is considered that the Korean medical treatment is useful for gastrocnemius muscle partial rupture.

두 마리 개가 (증례 1: 27 kg, 증례 2: 42 kg) 뒷다리 파행을 주증으로 내원하였다. 신체검사상, 증례 1은 무릎 검사 시 중증도 통증과 마취 상태에만 경골의 전위 증후을 보였고 증례 2는 과신전시 불편함을 호소하였으나 마취 전후 모두 전위 증후는 관찰되지 않았다. 방사선검사에서 두 증례 모두 관절 내 종창을 확인할 수 있었다. 위의 검사를 바탕으로 전십자인대 단열을 의심하고 관절경을 실시하였다. 관절상에서 증례 1은 불안정한 부분 전십자인대 단열을 증례 2는 안정화된 부분 전십자인대 단열로 진단하였다. 두증례 모두 경골조면 전이동술을 이용하여 치료 하였다. 증례 2에서 술 후 수술 부위에 장액종이 발생하여 수술적으로 제거하였다. 수술 5개월 후 두 증례 모두 임상증상이 개선되었다. 이 증례들을 바탕으로 경골조면 전이동술은 부분 전십자인대 단열에서 유용한 치료법으로 사료된다.

In this paper mechanical properties of reaction-bonded silicon nitride are studied with the variation of initial nitrogen partial pressure. At 1, 25$0^{\circ}C$ the amount of nitridation and the nucleation of nitride increase linearly with the nitrogen partial pressure increase. After the nitridation is completed the density of nitride and modulus of rupture at room temperature are increased with the amount of nitridation. When the partial pressure of nitrogen is 0.5 atm the specimen show the optimum properties that is the highest density of nitride and modulus of rupture. Also the microstructure of $\alpha$-matte is deveoped very well at that pressure of nitrogen which contributes to the strength development of specimen. It is shown that with proper control of initial partial pressure of nitrogen high strength silicon nitride body can be manufactured for dynamic applications.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate five cases with chronic Achilles tendon rupture that occurred after steroid injections. Materials and Methods: In our hospital, we experienced five cases of chronic Achilles tendon rupture from September 2010 to March 2012. All patients had got steroid injection for Achilles tendinitis at the other hospitals, and their heel pain was aggravated when they visited our outpatient department. After treatment, signs and symptoms of Achilles tendon rupture were developed and the diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Surgical treatment was done for Achilles tendon rupture. Results: There was difference between intra-operative findings of Achilles tendon rupture and usual chronic Achilles tendon rupture. Unlike usual findings of chronic Achilles tendon rupture whose scar tissue or tissue attenuation are found around the defect area of Achilles tendon, there were partial necrosis of tendon severe adhesion with surrounding tissue, extensive defect and longitudinal rupture on ruptured area. Also, severe inflammation of paratenon, granulation and fibrinoid deposit were found on biopsy findings in four cases. Conclusion: Based on review of data about relative risk and benefit of local corticosteroid injection to inflammatory lesion in Achilles tendon, it requires more attention to Achilles tendon rupture following local corticosteroid injection.

Avulsion of the triceps brachii is an uncommon injury. The usual mechanism of injury is fall onto an outstretched hand but can occur after direct contact injuries. Diagnosis is critical and dependent on history, physical examination, and radiological findings. Rupture of triceps brachii occurs most frequently at the tendo-osseous insertion and may be complete or partial, and could be associated with radial head fracture. Treatments include surgical repair of the complete rupture and immobilization of partial triceps rupture. We report 3 cases of triceps avulsion fractures treated by open surgical repair with literature reviews.

This case report describes the hematological and radiological examination of urinary bladder rupture and complete urethral obstruction. associated with urolithiasis in Hanwoo. Hyponatremia, hypochloremia, azotemia, and hyperglycemia were observed in both urethral obstruction and urinary bladder rupture. However, cattle with urethral obstruction showed hyperkalemia and mild hyperglycemia, whereas cattle with bladder rupture showed marked hyperglycemia and normal potassium levels. In ultrasonography, the urethral obstruction showed a dilated bladder with a thick bladder wall. In contrast to previous literature, in this study, severe electrolyte changes such as severe hyponatremia, hypochloremia, and hyperkalemia occurred in a case of complete urethral obstruction.

A numerical study on gaseous explosion was carried out to predict the transient pressure behavior with the partial rupture in confined vessels. Equations, assumptions and solutions for central ignition of premixed gases in closed spherical vessels are proposed with various equivalence ratios of gas fuel, as $CH_4$ and $C_3H_8$, vent areas and vent opening pressures. Given vent opening pressure in a vessel, the magnitude of second peak pressure results from the vent areas and burning velocity, varied by equivalence ratio of gas fuel. In a living room of an apartment, the higher second peak pressure than the vent pressure is not appeared due to its large window areas. As vent opening pressure is higher, the larger damage by gaseous explosion is expected and the larger vent area is necessary for relieving the damage. In the same concentration, the gaseous explosion by propane rather than methane shows the larger damage due to its higher adiabatic flame temperature and equivalence ratio.

Rupture or laceration of the aorta is a more common result of nonpenetrating traumatic injury than is generally appreciated. If the lesion is promptly diagnosed, a appropriate surgical treatment may be life-saving. Diagnosis may be difficult and at times the rupture may remain clinically silent for variable period.< A 34 - year old male patient had sustained steering wheel injury to his chest during automobile accident 8 weeks prior to admission. The diagnosis of traumatic aneurysm of the aorta was delayed as he was asymptomatic. Surgical repair of false aneurysm of the descending aorta was successfully performed by partial cardiopulmonary bypass through the femoral artery and vein.

긴엄지발가락폄근의 보조힘줄은 긴엄지발가락폄근 변이의 일종이며 드물지 않게 관찰된다. 저자들은 긴엄지발가락폄근 힘줄이 파열된 38세 여성 환자에서 신체진찰상 긴엄지발가락폄근의 부분파열이 의심이 되어 보존적 치료를 고려하였으나 자기공명영상에서 주힘줄은 완전 파열되고 주힘줄과 나란히 주행하는 보조힘줄이 발견되어 수술적 치료를 시행한 증례를 보고하고자 한다.
