A Design and Fabrication of the High-Speed Division/square-Root using a Redundant Floating Point Binary Number (고속 여분 부동 소수점 이진수의 제산/스퀘어-루트 설계 및 제작)

  • This paper described a design and implementation of the division/square-root for a redundant floating point binary number using high-speed quotient selector. This division/square-root used the method of a redundant binary addition with 25MHz clock speed. The addition of two numbers can be performed in a constant time independent of the word length since carry propagation can be eliminated. We have developed a 16-bit VLSI circuit for division and square-root operations used extensively in each iterative step. It peformed the division and square-root by a redundant binary addition to the shifted binary number every 16 cycles. Also the circuit uses the nonrestoring method to obtain a quotient. The quotient selection logic used a leading three digits of partial remainders in order to be implemented in a simple circuit. As a result, the performance of the proposed scheme is further enhanced in the speed of operation process by applying new quotient selection addition logic which can be parallelly process the quotient decision field. It showed the speed-up of 13% faster than previously presented schemes used the same algorithms.

  • Long division was one of the major issues in math war II started from 1990's in US. In this paper, we investigated this concretely and examined present teaching condition of long division in Korea. Firstly, Long division is not only a mechanical way to get the answer but also a realization of core conception in elementary mathematics. Futhermore it is a connecting link between elementary and middle mathematics education. Secondly, it is needed to use the term 'long division' to provide the concrete teaching guidelines. Thirdly, a minor algorithm, like an 'partial quotient method', is necessary to introduce in order to help understanding long division.

  • In this study, we shall be concerned with computing in parallel a few of the smallest eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenvectors of the eigenvalue problem, $Ax={\lambda}Bx$, where A is symmetric, and B is symmetric positive definite. Both A and B are large and sparse. Recently iterative algorithms based on the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient have been developed, and CG scheme for the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient has been proven a very attractive and promising technique for large sparse eigenproblems for small extreme eigenvalues. As in the case of a system of linear equations, successful application of the CG scheme to eigenproblems depends also upon the preconditioning techniques. A proper choice of the preconditioner significantly improves the convergence of the CG scheme. The idea underlying the present work is a parallel computation of the Multi-Color Block SSOR preconditioning for the CG optimization of the Rayleigh quotient together with deflation techniques. Multi-Coloring is a simple technique to obatin the parallelism of order n, where n is the dimension of the matrix. Block SSOR is a symmetric preconditioner which is expected to minimize the interprocessor communication due to the blocking. We implemented the results on the CRAY-T3E with 128 nodes. The MPI(Message Passing Interface) library was adopted for the interprocessor communications. The test problems were drawn from the discretizations of partial differential equations by finite difference methods.

A Study on the Effects of Organizational Intelligence Quotient and CIO's Management Roles on Strategic Application of Information Systems (OIQ와 CIO의 경영자 역할이 정보시스템의 전략적 활용에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • This study examined the relationship among constructs that impact on strategic use of IS(Information Systems). Independent variables were OIQ(Organizational Intelligence Quotient) and role of CIO(Chief of Information Officer) as a top manager, and dependent variable are strategic use of IS. The dependent variable has three-sub constructs: 1) IT infrastructure flexibility; 2) operation-orientation; and 3) market-orientation. Seven research hypotheses derived from the research model, and were empirically tested using the PLS (Partial Least Squares) method. The research results confirmed that both OIQ and CIO's roles have strong impact on organizations' strategic use of IS. Communication and business network among the sub-constructs of OIQ have effect on strategic use of IS. CIO's role as a top manager was found to be significant. CIO's role as a resource allocator and innovator among the CIO's roles showed significant influence on strategic use of IS. OIQ was also significantly related to CIO's role as a top manager. This study suggests practical implications and insights to the enterprises which aim to apply IT strategically.

Relation between depression and dietary practice among middle-aged women: mediating effect of emotional eating (중년여성의 우울증과 식생활 실천과의 관계: 정서적 섭식의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: This study analyzes the association between depression, emotional eating, and dietary practices, and investigates the mediating effects of emotional eating between depression and dietary practice. Methods: A total of 345 women aged 40-59 years participated in the Seoul and Gyeonggido region. Assessments were achieved by self-reported questionnaires for emotional eating (Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire), Nutrition Quotients (NQ), and depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9). Results: Analyzing the NQ scores by considering the depression group, revealed that compared to the normal group, balance, diversity, and eating behavior scores were lower in the depression group, whereas the moderation score was lower in the borderline depression group and depression group. The emotional eating scores were determined to be higher in the depression group than in the normal group. Partial correlation analysis between depression, emotional eating, and NQ revealed that depression is positively correlated with emotional eating and negatively correlated with all other factors of the nutrition quotient, balance, diversity, moderation, and eating behavior. Among the nutrition quotient factors considered, emotional eating was determined to be negatively correlated with both diversity and moderation. The bootstrapping method was applied to analyze the mediating effect of emotional eating for determining the association between depression and NQ. Results indicate that among the nutrition quotient factors evaluated using emotional eating as a medium, depression exerted a negative effect on moderation. Conclusion: Results of this study confirm that emotional eating, as a medium, affects the intake of unhealthy foods especially when depression is associated with dietary practices.

Mediating effect of resilience between post-traumatic stress and emotional exhaustion in nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic (COVID-19 유행시기에 병원간호사의 외상후스트레스와 정서적 소진의 관계에서 회복탄력성의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: This study explored the mediating role of resilience between post-traumatic stress and emotional exhaustion in nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The data were collected from 193 nurses working at a hospital in Daegu from October 16 to 30, 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants conducted self-reported surveys of post-traumatic stress (Impact of Event Scale-Revised Korean version), emotional exhaustion (Maslach Burnout Inventory), and resilience (Korean Resilience Quotient Test). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Mediation analysis was performed using the Baron and Kenny method and Sobel test. Results: The mean scores for post-traumatic stress, resilience, and emotional exhaustion were 16.18±16.18, 183.41±18.29, and 32.64±9.66, respectively. A higher level of post-traumatic stress was associated with lower resilience (r=-.20, p=.004) and with higher emotional exhaustion (r=.33, p<.001). A higher level of resilience was associated with lower emotional exhaustion (r=-.35, p<.001). The resilience was confirmed to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and emotional exhaustion, verified by the Sobel test (Z=2.31, p=.02). Conclusion: Resilience had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and emotional exhaustion. Thus, nurses should develop individual strengths to reduce emotional exhaustion, and managers should also make efforts to increase the nurses' resilience. It is also necessary to develop and apply a program to strengthen nurses' resilience.

COMPARISONS OF PARALLEL PRECONDITIONERS FOR THE COMPUTATION OF SMALLEST GENERALIZED EIGENVALUE

  • Recently, an iterative algorithm for finding the interior eigenvalues of a definite matrix by CG-type method has been proposed. This method compares to the inverse power method. The given matrices A, and B are assumed to be large and sparse, and SPD( Symmetric Positive Definite) The CG scheme for the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient has been proven a very attractive and promising technique for large sparse eigenproblems for smallest eigenvalue. Also, it is very amenable to parallel computations, like the CG method for the linear systems. A proper choice of the preconditioner significantly improves the convergence of the CG scheme. But for parallel computations we need to find an efficient parallel preconditioner. Our candidates we ILU(0) in the wave-front order, ILU(0) in the multi-coloring order, Point-SSOR(Symmetric Successive Overrelaxation), and Multi-Color Block SSOR preconditioner. Wavefront order is a simple way to increase parallelism in the natural order, and Multi-coloring realizes a parallelism of order(N), where N is the order of the matrix. Another choice is the Multi-Color Block SSOR(Symmetric Successive OverRelaxation) preconditioning. Block SSOR is a symmetric preconditioner which is expected to minimize the interprocessor communication due to the blocking. We implemented the results on the CRAY-T3E with 128 nodes. The results show that for small number of processors Multi-Color ILU(0) has the best performance, while for large number of processors Multi-Color Block SSOR performs the best.

Adjacent Effect of Oriental Medical Therapy on Aphasia after Stroke (뇌졸중 환자의 실어증에 대한 언어치료시 한방치료가 병행되었을 때의 효과)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to prove adjacent effect of Oriental Medical Therapy on aphasia after stroke. Method: We studied patients who took K-WAB (AQ; aphasia quotient) twice during their language therapy at Kyunghee University Hospital & Oriental Medicine Hospital to retrospectively investigate the effect of Oriental medical therapy on aphasia. 18 patients with post-stroke aphasia were assigned to receive one of the following adjuncts: Group A that received language therapy with Oriental medical therapy (n=12) and Group B (n=6) that received language therapy only; AQ score of Group A was compared against Group B. Result: Total AQ score and most partial scores, except 'Contents delivery', were better in Group A. 'Total AQ score', 'Fluency', and 'Auditory verbal comprehension score' presented statistical significance. Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated the effect of Oriental medical therapy on aphasia after stroke through AQ score improvement.

  • The incorporation of activity in plasma lipid was determined after injection of $u-C^{14}-glucose$ to normal laying hen. The extraction of total lipid from plasma was carried out by the method of Floch et al. with some modifications. The counting of carbon-14 activity was conducted by a Beckman Liquid Scintillation System, The concentration of plasma lipid was estimated as much as 3,070mg per 100ml of plasma taken at 5 minutes after injection of tracer amount of $u-C^{14}-glucose$. The specific activity per gram of plasma lipid carbon atom per injected dose per kg body weight increased gradually following the time after injection until 120 minutes, whereas the glucose activity decreased logarithmically. The partial incorporation quotient of activity in plasma lipid from that of glucose was 0.73% until 120 minutes after the injection.
