In this paper, we propose a technique of the recognition of partial face. Most of the research is concentrated on the recognition of whole face Since part of the face area in an image can be damaged or overlapped, face recognition based on partial face is required. PCA and LDA technique is applied to the recognition of partial face. Also, a new method to combine the results of the recognition of parts of the face.

Due to the wide application of face recognition (FR) in information security, surveillance, access control and others, it has received significantly increased attention from both the academic and industrial communities during the past several decades. However, partial face occlusion is one of the most challenging problems in face recognition issue. In this paper, a novel method based on linear regression-based classification (LRC) algorithm is proposed to address this problem. After all images are downsampled and divided into several blocks, we exploit the evaluator of each block to determine the clear blocks of the test face image by using linear regression technique. Then, the remained uncontaminated blocks are utilized to partial occluded face recognition issue. Furthermore, an improved Distance-based Evidence Fusion approach is proposed to decide in favor of the class with average value of corresponding minimum distance. Since this occlusion removing process uses a simple linear regression approach, the completely computational cost approximately equals to LRC and much lower than sparse representation-based classification (SRC) and extended-SRC (eSRC). Based on the experimental results on both AR face database and extended Yale B face database, it demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method on issue of partial occluded face recognition and the performance is satisfactory. Through the comparison with the conventional methods (eigenface+NN, fisherfaces+NN) and the state-of-the-art methods (LRC, SRC and eSRC), the proposed method shows better performance and robustness.
Many recent events, such as terrorist attacks, exposed defects in most sophisticated security systems. Therefore, it is necessary to improve security data systems based on the body or behavioral characteristics, often called biometrics. Together with the growing interest in the development of human and computer interface and biometric identification, human face recognition has become an active research area. Face recognition appears to offer several advantages over other biometric methods. Nowadays, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been widely adopted for the face recognition algorithm. Yet still, PCA has limitations such as poor discriminatory power and large computational load. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for face recognition using a mid band frequency component of partial information which is used for PCA representation. Because the human face has even symmetry, half of a face is sufficient for face recognition. This partial information saves storage and computation time. In comparison with the traditional use of PCA, the proposed method gives better recognition accuracy and discriminatory power. Furthermore, the proposed method reduces the computational load and storage significantly.

In this paper, we present an identificable face (n face) detection method robust to color degradation and partial veiling. This method is composed of three parts: segmentation of face candidate regions, extraction of face candidate windows, and decision of veiling. In the segmentation of face candidate regions, face candidate regions are detected by finding skin color regions and facial components such as eyes, a nose and a mouth, which may have degraded colors, from an input image. In the extraction of face candidate windows, face candidate windows which have high potentials of faces are extracted in face candidate regions. In the decision of veiling, using an eigenface method, a face candidate window whose similarity with eigenfaces is maximum is determined and whether facial components of the face candidate window are veiled or not is determined in the similar way. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields better the detection rate by about $11.4\%$ in test DB containing color-degraded faces and veiled ones than a conventional method without considering color degradation and partial veiling.

Face recognition is considered a complex biometrics in the field of image processing mainly due to the constraints imposed by variation in the appearance of facial images. These variations in appearance are affected by differences in expressions and/or occlusions (sunglasses, scarf etc.). This paper discusses incremental Kernel Fisher Discriminate Analysis on sub-classes for dealing with partial occlusions and variant expressions. This framework focuses on the division of classes into fixed size sub-classes for effective feature extraction. For this purpose, it modifies the traditional Linear Discriminant Analysis into incremental approach in the kernel space. Experiments are performed on AR, ORL, Yale B and MIT-CBCL face databases. The results show a significant improvement in face recognition.

In this paper we propose a face detection system which consists of a method of face candidate extraction using skin color and a method of face verification using the feature of facial structure. Firstly, the proposed extraction method of face candidate uses the image segmentation and merging algorithm in the regions of skin color and the neighboring regions of skin color. These two algorithms make it possible to select the face candidates from the variety of faces in the image with complicated backgrounds. Secondly, by using the partial face classifier, the proposed face validation method verifies the feature of face structure and then classifies face and non-face. This classifier uses face images only in the learning process and does not consider non-face images in order to use less number of training images. In the experimental, the proposed method of face candidate extraction can find more 9.55% faces on average as face candidates than other methods. Also in the experiment of face and non-face classification, the proposed face validation method obtains the face classification rate on the average 4.97% higher than other face/non-face classifiers when the non-face classification rate is about 99%.

The performance of face recognition methods using subspace projection is directly related to the characteristics of their basis images, especially in the cases of local distortion or partial occlusion. In order for a subspace projection method to be robust to local distortion and partial occlusion, the basis images generated by the method should exhibit a part-based local representation. We propose an effective part-based local representation method named locally salient ICA (LS-ICA) method for face recognition that is robust to local distortion and partial occlusion. The LS-ICA method only employs locally salient information from important facial parts in order to maximize the benefit of applying the idea of 'recognition by parts.' It creates part-based local basis images by imposing additional localization constraint in the process of computing ICA architecture I basis images. We have contrasted the LS-ICA method with other part-based representations such as LNMF (Localized Non-negative Matrix Factorization)and LFA (Local Feature Analysis). Experimental results show that the LS-ICA method performs better than PCA, ICA architecture I, ICA architecture II, LFA, and LNMF methods, especially in the cases of partial occlusions and local distortion
For an effective pre-treatment process of a face input image, it is necessary to detect each of face components, calculate the face area, and estimate the rotary angle of the face. A proposed method of this study can estimate an robust result under such renditions as some different levels of illumination, variable fate sizes, fate rotation angels, and background color similar to skin color of the face. The first step of the proposed method detects the estimated face area that can be calculated by both adapted skin color Information of the band-wide HSV color coordinate converted from RGB coordinate, and skin color Information using histogram. Using the results of the former processes, we can detect a lip area within an estimated face area. After estimating a rotary angle slope of the lip area along the X axis, the method determines the face shape based on face information. After detecting eyes in face area by matching a partial template which is made with both eyes, we can estimate Y axis rotary angle by calculating the eye´s locations in three dimensional space in the reference of the face area. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the effectuality of proposed algorithm was verified.

This paper presents a new human identification algorithm using partial features of the uncovered portion of face when a person wears a mask. After the face area is detected, the feature is extracted from the eye area above the mask. The identification process is performed by comparing the acquired one with the registered features. For extracting features SIFT(scale invariant feature transform) algorithm is used. The extracted features are independent of brightness and size- and rotation-invariant for the image. The experiment results show the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm.
Face tracking is to estimate the motion of a non-rigid face together with a rigid head in 3D, and plays important roles in higher levels such as face/facial expression/emotion recognition. In this paper, we propose an AAM-based face tracking algorithm. AAM has been widely used to segment and track deformable objects, but there are still many difficulties. Particularly, it often tends to diverge or converge into local minima when a target object is self-occluded, partially or completely occluded. To address this problem, we utilize the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT). SIFT is an effective method for self and partial occlusion because it is able to find correspondence between feature points under partial loss. And it enables an AAM to continue to track without re-initialization in complete occlusions thanks to the good performance of global matching. We also register and use the SIFT features extracted from multi-view face images during tracking to effectively track a face across large pose changes. Our proposed algorithm is validated by comparing other algorithms under the above 3 kinds of occlusions.
