The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of mothers'depression and children's perception of parents' behavior on children's competencies. The subjects were 729 mothers and their children with grade 5 and 6 in the five elementary schools located in T city. Data were analysed by frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA, scheff test and regression analysis. The levels of mothers' depression were found to be statistically different according to the parents'educational level, fathers' occupation, and the average monthly house income. The degree of children's positive perception of parents' behavior was different according to the parents'educational level and average monthly house income. And the degree of children's competencies was different according to mother's age, parents'educational level, father's occupation and average monthly house income. Mother's depression affected children's perception of their parents' behavior, suggesting that the lower the degree of mother's depression is, the more positively children tend to perceive parents' behavior. The most important factor that affected the whole areas of children's competencies was the children's positive perception of their mothers'behavior, and the next important factor was mothers' depression.
This study examined the effect of parents' neglect behavior and children's irrational beliefs on children's anger expression style. The participants were 379 5th and 6th grade elementary school children. The major findings were as follows. Children tended to perceive higher levels of their parents' cognitive and emotional neglect than physical and home environmental neglect. Boys perceived higher levels of their parents' physical, supervisory and home environmental neglect than girls, and girls showed higher level of excessively self-expecting belief than boys. There were statistically significant correlations between the parents' neglect behavior, their child's irrational beliefs and anger expression style. A regression analysis showed that parents' physical and cognitive neglect were predictors of children's anger control. Children's excessive apprehension and avoidance beliefs were the best predictors of children's anger-in, while children's deterministic belief was the best predictor of children's anger-out. Parents' physical neglect behavior appeared to be powerful predictor.
This study investigated the relation between verbal abuse by parents and children's maladjusted emotional behavior. The sampling consisted of 628 children in 16 classes out of every three elementary schools and one middle school. Instruments used for this study were the Verbal Abuse Measure, Parent-to-child violence items of the Conflict Tactics Scales, Emotional Maladjustment Behavior Scale, and Socioeconmic Status. Methods applied to data analysis were multiple regression, logistic regression and logistic curve graphic display. The major findings were ; (1) Of all subjects, almost 20% experienced at least one instance in which they were victims of verbal abuse during the year covered by this study. (2) As the amount of physical abuse by parents increased the verbal abuse by parents increased. The older children experienced more verbal abuse than the younger ones. (3) Verbal abuse by parents was more highly related to maladjusted emotional behavior of the children than physical abuse by parents. (4) Regardless of the physical violence by parents, verbal abuse by parents was associated with maladjusted emotional behavior of children. Children who were subjected to both verbal and physical abuse were more strongly related to withdrawal, hyperactivity, and obsessive-compulsions than children experienced either one or the other.
The purpose of this research was to study the effects of children's temperament, social competence, emotional intelligence, morality and parent's child rearing attitudes on young children's internalizing and externalizing problem behavior. Subjects were l34 five-year-old children attending day-care centers and kindergartens in Seoul, Korea. Analysis of the relationships among these variables was by correlation and stepwise multiple regressions. There were statistically significant correlations among the variables of temperament, social competence and parents' child rearing attitudes and young children's behavior problems. Variables influencing young children's internalizing behavior problems were children's temperament and parents' child-rearing attitudes; variables influencing children's externalizing behavior problems were children's temperament, their social competence, and parents' child-rearing attitudes.
This study was conducted to study the associations between parents' effortful control (EC), their parenting behavior and infants' EC. Subjects of the present study were 55 infants and their parents. Parents who participated in this study replied to questionnaires, including ECBQ-SF, ATQ-SF and Parenting style scale. There was positive correlations between the parents' EC, affectionate parenting style and infants' EC by zero-order correlation. We also performed Mann-Whitney test on the acquired data and it showed significant differences in the infants' EC by their parents' EC and parenting behavior. More specifically, infants with more affectionate and permissive parents showed higher levels of EC. Finally, we performed a partial correlation analysis and its results revealed that the correlation coefficient between the parents' EC and the infants' EC decreased when the parenting style was controlled. These results are vital to have a better understanding on the developmental pathways to the EC.
Research with parents of children with Asperger Syndrome was conducted to assess whether the level of positive parental attachment correlated positively with positive parenting behaviors and negatively with negative parenting behaviors. Participants were recruited from internet. The Parental Bonding Inventory measured parents' perception of their bonding or attachment with three aspects of their own parents: warmth, control, and care. In the Parenting Behavior Inventory, parents reported recent interaction/reaction behaviors with their child, and results focused on two aspects of parenting, supportive/engaged and hostile/coercive behaviors: each identified as problematic to parenting and attributable to a variety of specific parenting behaviors. Analysis of demographic variables for correlations with positive parenting behaviors and negative parenting behaviors were carried out by Pearson correlations. Two separate standard multiple regressions, one for positive parenting behaviors and one for negative parenting behaviors, were conducted. Findings support the hypothesis that positive early attachment experience of parents has a significant impact upon their own positive parenting skills with their child with Asperger Syndrome. However, multiple regression of negative parenting behavior found no significant negative contribution by parental attachment. Demographic variables proved to be important.
The aims of this study are to discover general aspects of the kinship behavior shown from singles and also the related variables that had influenced on the single's kinship behavior The research has based on a comprehensive survey with 78 men and 82 women who are single. Statistical methods, including frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and Duncan Multiple Range test utilizing the SPSS for Windows 10.0, have been adopted for the analysis of the data compiled. The findings of this study were as follows: First, singles have shown the ordinary kinship behavior to their orientation families, those are parents, brothers and sisters. And they had more active kinship behaviors with parents than brothers and sisters. This study investigated the relationship between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors of adolescents. The subjects were 448 junior and senior middle school students. Statistics were frequencies, percentile, Pearson's r-coefficient, and regression analysis. The main results of this study were as follows ; 1. There were significantly positive correlation between the types of parental abuse and maladjustmental behaviors. 2. The variables, neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and physical abuse were found to be the important variables in predicting social withdrawal. Neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, and sex of the child were found to be the important variables in predicting hyperactivity. Neglect, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting aggression. Sex of the child, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be the important variables in predicting retreat. And, neglect and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be important variables in predicting obsessive-compulsion.
The subjects of this study were 283 $6^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ grade students and their homeroom teachers. Data were analyzed by frequency, %, Pearson's, two-way ANOVA, and stepwise regression. Results showed that open communication with parents and self-esteem were positively related to social competence and negatively related to antisocial behavior. Depression was negatively related to social competence and positively related to antisocial behavior. The $8^{th}$ graders had higher scores than $6^{th}$ graders in antisocial behavior and lower levels of social competence and communication with parents. Girls were higher in social competence and communication with parents and lower in antisocial behavior than boys. Depression impacted social competence in girls, and communication with fathers impacted social competence in boys. Grade, open communication with fathers, and self-esteem had significant effects on the antisocial behavior in boys.
Objectives : This study sought to identify the predisposing factors which influence the adolescent oral health enhancement behavior by analyzing controlling effects depending on the parents' oral health care behaviors in the relationship between the predisposing factors and adolescent behavior improvements which enhance oral health. Methods : A structured, self-administered questionnaire was given from July 6 through July 24, 2016. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 18.0 program. Results : Parents' oral health behaviors in terms of discipline and guidance showed a controlling effect in terms of importance (${\beta}$=.116) and benefits (${\beta}$=.133). In addition, the analysis showed that the parents' oral health care behavior had a controlling effect in terms of benefits (${\beta}$=.164) and susceptibility (${\beta}$=-.116). Conclusions : From the results of this study, the development of materials and education courses to lead to behavior changes are thought to be necessary in order to enhance the importance and benefits of the factors of oral health beliefs and to reduce psychological discomfort. Moreover, the role of parents with regard to desirable habits and beliefs to maintain oral health in their children is essential.
