Vergence control of parallel stereoscopic camera using the binocular disparity information (시차정보를 이용한 수평이동방식 입체영상 카메라의 주시각제어)

  • This paper concerns auto vergence control of a parallel stereoscopic camera through geometrical analysis. In the construction of a parallel stereoscopic camera, we experimentally demonstrated linear relationship between the key object distance and the amount of vergence control. And we proposed a vergence control system for the stereoscopic camera using binocular disparity information. For the real-time calculation of disparity information, the Hybrid Cepstral filter algorithm, with input data acquired from the vertical projection data and from the down sampling data from the source images, was proposed for precision and high speed processing. With the disparity information algorithm and the vergence control of the parallel stereoscopic camera system, the stereoscopic images become more like those of the human eye.

  • Many researchers have been interested in the optimization of parallel programs through the latency hiding by overlapping the communication with the computation. We ana1yzed overlapping effects in the circular shift communication which is one of the collective communications being frequently used In many data parallel programs. We measured the time which can be possibly overlapped and the time which cannot be overlapped in over all circular shift communication period on an Ethernet switch-based clustered system. The result from each platform nay be used for the input of optimizing compilers. The previous performance models usually have two kinds of drawbacks one is only based on point-to-point communication, so it is not appropriate for analyzing the overall effects of collective communications. The other provides the performance of collective communication, but no overlapping effect. In this paper we extended the previous models and analyzed the experimental results of the extended model.

  • All-optical signal processing is expected to offer advantages in speed and power consumption against over electronics signal processing. It has a potential to solve the bottleneck issues of ultra-high speed communication network nodes. All-optical serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial data converters would make it possible to easily process the serial data information of a high-speed optical packet without optical-to-electronic-to-optical data conversion. In this paper, we explain the principle of simple and easily expandable all-optical serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial data converters based on Mach-Zehnder interferometers. We experimentally demonstrate these data converters at 10Gbit/s serial data rate. They are useful all-optical devices for the all-optical implementations of label decoding, self-routing, control of variable packets, bit-wise logical operation, and data format conversion.

  • Comparing with sequential programming, parallel programming has additional complexity due to the consideration of parallelism, communication and synchronization of processes. A synergism between users and compliers should be established, each assisting the other to produce high quality parallel programs. On the above underlying philosophy, we developed a parallel Object-Oriented specification language, POOSL, as preliminary works. However, it is still likely to hard for users to write parallel program because users have to consider grammar of POOSL and to write text-based parallel program. It would be more desirable to provide users wit visual environment for effective parallel programming. Therefore, we propose a visual programming environment. VEPO(Visual environment for Parallel Object-Oriented Programming), based on POOSL in order that users can develop parallel programs more easily and conveniently. It aims at supporting a programming environment in which users can represent their programs more naturally and visually I parallel manner with object-oriented concept and essential steps during parallel program development such as program specification, compilation, execution and animation of execution are integrated. VEPO has useful features for parallel processing. Especially, complicated parallel codes for synchronization and communication of processes are automatically generated in the translation phase, so users can be relieved of writing error-prone parallel codes. The system is targeted to the transputer-based parallel system, MC-3. The graphic user interface of VEPO was implemented using Visual C++. Visual programs descirbed on VEPO are translated into Inmos C and executed on MC-3.

Comparison of Message Passing Interface and Hybrid Programming Models to Solve Pressure Equation in Distributed Memory System (분산 메모리 시스템에서 압력방정식의 해법을 위한 MPI와 Hybrid 병렬 기법의 비교)

  • The message passing interface (MPI) and hybrid programming models for the parallel computation of a pressure equation were compared in a distributed memory system. Both models were based on domain decomposition, and two numbers of the sub-domain were selected by considering the efficiency of the hybrid model. The parallel performances for various problem sizes were measured using up to 96 threads. It was found that in addition to the cache-memory size, the overhead of the MPI communication/OpenMP directives affected the parallel performance. For small problems, the parallel performance was low because the percentage of the overhead of the MPI communication/OpenMP directives increased as the number of threads increased, and MPI was better than the hybrid model because it had a smaller communication overhead. For large problems, the parallel performance was high because, in addition to the cache effect, the percentage of the communication overhead was relatively low compared to that for small problems, and the hybrid model was better than MPI because the communication overhead of MPI was more dominant than that of the OpenMP directives in the hybrid model.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a Parallel Resonant Soft Switching Inverter based on Delta-Modulation Method. The conventional full-bridge inverter generates switching losses due to the hard switching. The proposed inverter operates soft switching using a DC-link switch and resonant circuit. So, all of the switches in the proposed inverter operates soft switching. Therefore the proposed inverter can reduce not only switching loss but also capacity and size of passive devices due to the resonant elements. The validity of the proposed inverter is verified thorough the theoretical analysis and simulation.

  • A new computationally efficient algorithm-based propagator method for two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is proposed, which uses two parallel uniform linear arrays. The algorithm takes advantage of the special structure of the array which enables 2-D DOA estimation without pair matching. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves very accurate estimation at a computational cost 4 dB lower than that of standard methods.

  • If signal time duration of MC-CDMA method which has studied for next-generation high-speed data transmission is not sufficiently large compared to delay spread of channel, the performance is degraded by generation of intersymbol interference. In this paper, this problem will solve through serial to parallel convertor and make large sufficiently time duration of signal compared to delay spread of channel and rise variable spectral efficiency through the number of serial to parallel convertor subchannel we will add to parallel frequency diversity block for improve the performance in mobile Communication. Spectral efficiency of the proposed system is counted and compared to spectral efficiency of MC-CDMA and investigated through computer simulations by using multipath Rayleigh fading channel.

Sparse Signal Recovery with Parallel Orthogonal Matching Pursuit for Multiple Measurement Vectors (병렬OMP 기법을 통한 복수 측정 벡터기반 성긴 신호의 복원)

  • In this paper, parallel orthogonal matching pursuit (POMP) is proposed to supplement the simultaneous orthogonal matching pursuit (S-OMP) which has been widely used as a greedy algorithm for sparse signal recovery for multiple measurement vector (MMV) problem. The process of POMP is simple but effective: (1) multiple indexes maximally correlated with the observation vector are chosen at the first iteration, (2) the conventional S-OMP process is carried out in parallel for each selected index, (3) the index set which yields the minimum residual is selected for reconstructing the original sparse signal. Empirical simulations show that POMP for MMV outperforms than the conventional S-OMP both in terms of exact recovery ratio (ERR) and mean-squared error (MSE).
