  • The purpose of this study was to objectively explore and discuss the effect of trainer's communication style on rehabilitation ability and rehabilitation satisfaction of elite athletes. we observed the relationship between rehabilitation trainers and injured athletes and found that communication between them plays an important role. In this study, we criticized that most of the studies related to rehabilitation were conducted from the point of view of natural science. The results of this study emphasized that rehabilitation-related research should broadly accept social science positions such as business administration. The main research findings are as follows. As a result of analyzing the relationship between trainer's communication style and rehabilitation ability, first, the trainer's cooperative and professional communication style affects emotional factors of injured players. Second, the trainer's cooperative and controlled communication style affects the cognitive factors of injured players. Third, the trainer's cooperative and professional communication style affects the behavioral factors of injured players. Fourth, the trainer's cooperative and professional communication style affects the rehabilitation satisfaction of injured players. Based on these results, this study was conducted to validate the necessity of discussing the trainer's communication style preference according to the individual background such as the injured player's gender, personality, and injury level, and the classification and composition of communication styles that match Korean culture and sentiment. As suggestions for follow-up research, active sharing of problems with adjacent disciplines such as sports sociology, sports education, and sports marketing, and parallel qualitative research centered on individual cases were suggested

  • A scalable parallel algorithm is proposed for efficient image component labeling with local operatos on a mesh connected SIMD computer. In contrast to the conventional parallel labeling algorithms, where a single pixel is assigned to each PE, the algorithm presented here is scalable and can assign m$\times$m pixel set to each PE according to the input image size. The assigned pixel set is converted to a single pixel that has representative value, and the amount of the required memory and processing time can be highly reduced. For N$\times$N image, if m$\times$m pixel set is assigned to each PE of P$\times$P mesh, where P=N/m, the time complexity due to the communication of each PE and the computation complexity are reduced to O(PlogP) bit operations and O(P) bit operations, respectively, which is 1/m of each of the conventional method. This method also diminishes the amount of memory in each PE to O(P), and can decrease the number of PE to O(P2) =Θ(N2/m2) as compared to O(N2) of conventional method. Because the proposed parallel labeling algorithm is scalable, we can adapt to the increase of image size without the hardware change of the given mesh connected SIMD computer.

  • We proposed a XMESH(crossed-mesh) topology as a suitable interconnection for the massively parallel computer architectures, and presented performance analysis of the proposed interconnection topology. Horizontally, the XMESH has the same links as those of the toroidal mesh(TMESH) or toroid, but vertically, it has diagonal cross links instead of the vertical links. It reveals desirable interconnection characteristics for the massively parallel computers as the number of nodes increases, while retaining the same structural advantages of the TMESH such as the symmetric structure, periodic placement of subsystems, and constant degree, which are highly recommended features for VLSI/WSI implementations. Furthermore, n*k XMESH can be easily expanded without increasing the diameter as long as n.leq.k.leq.n+4. Analytical performance evaluations show that the XMESH has a shorter diameter, a shorter mean internode distance, and a higher message completion rate than the TMESH or the diagonal mesh(DMESH). To confirm these results, an optimal self-routing algorithm for the proposed topology is developed and is used to simulate the average delay, the maximum delay, and the throughput in the presence of contention. In all cases, the XMESH is shown to outperform the TMESH and the DMESH regardless of the communication load conditions or the number of nodes of the networks, and can provide an attractive alternative to those networks in implementing massively parallel computers.

  • The past several years have witnessed an ever-increasing acceptance and adoption of parallel processing, both for high performance scientific computing as well as for more general purpose applications. Furthermore with increasing needs to perform the complex flow calculations in an efficient manner, the use of the message passing model on distributed networks has emerged as an important alternative to the expensive supercomputers. This work attempts to provide a generic framework to enable the parallelization of all CFD-related works using the master-slave model. This framework consists of (1) input geometry, (2) domain decomposition, (3) grid generation, (4) flow computations, (5) flow visualization, and (6) output display as the sequential components, but performs computations for (2) to (5) in parallel on the workstation clustering. The flow computations are parallized by having multiple copies of the flow-code to solve a PDE on different spatial regions on different processors, while their flow data are exchanged across the region boundaries, and the solution is time-stepped. The Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) is used for distributed communication in this work.

  • Detecting races is important for debugging shared-memory parallel programs, because the races result in unintended non-deterministic executions of the programs. Previous on-the-fly techniques to detect races in parallel programs with general inter-thread coordination show serious space overhead which depends on the maximum parallelism of the program. Therefore, this paper presents a loop splitting technique for on-the-fly race detection of parallel programs which is more efficient in space complexity than previous techniques. This loop splitting technique is the debugged program which preserves semantics of the original program. Monitering loop splitting program in on-the-fly can detect first races.

  • For the large scale computation of turbulent flows around an arbitrarily shaped body, a parallel LES (large eddy simulation) code has been recently developed in which domain decomposition method is adopted. METIS and MPI (message Passing interface) libraries are used for domain partitioning and data communication between processors, respectively. For unsteady computation of the incompressible Wavier-Stokes equation, 4-step splitting finite element algorithm [1] is adopted and Smagorinsky or dynamic LES model can be chosen fur the modeling of small eddies in turbulent flows. For the validation and performance-estimation of the parallel code, a three-dimensional laminar flow generated by natural convection inside a cube has been solved. Then, we have solved the turbulent flow around MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) model at $Re = 2.6\times10^6$, which is based on the model height and inlet free stream velocity, using 32 processors on IBM SMP cluster and compared with the existing experiment.

  • Compared to the conventional Hardware-oriented base stations, Software Defined Radio (SDR)-based base station provides various advantages especially in flexibility and expandability. It enables the multimode capability required in 4th-generation (4G) environment which aims at a convergence network of various kinds of communication standards. However, since a single base station processes all data required in various multiple waveforms, the SDR base station faces a problem of data processing speed. In this paper, we propose a new concept of SDR base station system which adopts a parallel processing technology of clustering environment. We implemented a WiMAX system with SDR concept which adopts the Message Passing Interface (MPI) technology which enables the speed-up operations. In order to maximize the efficiency of parallel processing in signal processing, we analyze how the algorithm at each of modules is related to data to be processed. Through the implemented system, we show a drastic improvement in operation time due to parallel processing using the proposed MPI technology. In addition, we demonstrate a feasibility of SDR system for 4G or even beyond-4G as well.

  • By exploiting parallel processing, the proposed scheduling scheme enhances energy saving capability of multicore processors for real-time tasks while satisfying deadline and fault tolerance constraints. The scheme searches for a near minimum-energy schedule within a polynomial time, because finding the minimum-energy schedule on multicore processors is a NP-hard problem. The scheme consumes manifestly less energy than the state-of-the-arts method even with low parallel processing speedup as well as with high parallel processing speedup, and saves the energy consumption up to 86%.

  • In this study, we shall be concerned with computing in parallel a few of the smallest eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenvectors of the eigenvalue problem, $Ax={\lambda}Bx$, where A is symmetric, and B is symmetric positive definite. Both A and B are large and sparse. Recently iterative algorithms based on the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient have been developed, and CG scheme for the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient has been proven a very attractive and promising technique for large sparse eigenproblems for small extreme eigenvalues. As in the case of a system of linear equations, successful application of the CG scheme to eigenproblems depends also upon the preconditioning techniques. A proper choice of the preconditioner significantly improves the convergence of the CG scheme. The idea underlying the present work is a parallel computation of the Multi-Color Block SSOR preconditioning for the CG optimization of the Rayleigh quotient together with deflation techniques. Multi-Coloring is a simple technique to obatin the parallelism of order n, where n is the dimension of the matrix. Block SSOR is a symmetric preconditioner which is expected to minimize the interprocessor communication due to the blocking. We implemented the results on the CRAY-T3E with 128 nodes. The MPI(Message Passing Interface) library was adopted for the interprocessor communications. The test problems were drawn from the discretizations of partial differential equations by finite difference methods.

  • In this paper, we propose new simple schemes for all-optical serial-to-parallel and parallel-to-serial data format converters based on a semiconductor laser amplifier in a loop mirror (SLALOM) for all-optical data processing. They have the advantages of simple and easily expandable structure, efficient operation and easy implementation. We implement the proposed all-optical data converters. and experimentally demonstrate their operation.
