A new method of dynamic contact force measurement between a pantograph and a contact wire is proposed in this paper The method does not require design modification of an original pantograph in order to install sensors such as load cells. Contact forces can be expressed as the sum of vertical shear forces at the support points and inertial forces. Using specially-designed strain gage rosettes. vertical shear forces at the supported points can be measured without noise mixing and thermal effects. In order to obtain contact forces from shear forces, 3 inertial force compansation methods are proposed and compared in this paper. By validation process, the new proposed measurement method is verified to be applicable to the on-line current collection test.
This paper presents the design method of low order controller for the active pantograph of electric train system. The pantograph is the most playa role to supply constant current to the train. The design objectives are to have good tracking performance about reference contact force despite the stiffness variation that is like sinusoidal function concerned in train speed or span length of contact wire. In this paper, we consider stiffness variation from external disturbance of active pantograph to simplify model equation, and propose simple second-order controller which is designed by Characteristic ratio assignment(CRA) control method. Finally, we verify time response appling to model equation of real system and frequency response about parameter uncertainty like stiffness variation. it is performed by Matlab version 6.5 and Matlab simulink simulation.
Dynamic characteristics of pantograph-catenary system that supplies electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. A simple catenary is composed of the contact and messenger wires connected by hamgers possessing bi-directional stiffness properties. The influences of parameters that determine the contact properties of pantograph-catenary system are investigated through numerical simulations. For the catenary, a finite difference model composed of 10 spans is constructed. The contact and messenger wires are modeled as strings with respective tension and damping ratio values. The pantograph is modeled as a linear 3-degree-of-freedom system. It is found that the tension, number of hangers and damping ratios as well as the speed of the train significantly influence the contact forces and contact separation rate
The design of a current collection system of high speed train requires the fundamental understandings fer the dynamic characteristics of a catenary system and pantograph. The stiffness of the catenary system of high speed train has the varying characteristics for the change of the contact point with a pantograph, since the supporting pole and hanger make the different boundary conditions for the updown stiffness of a trolley wire. The variation of stiffness results in Mathiue equation, which characterizes the stability of the system. However, the two terms variation of the stiffness due to span length and hanger distance cannot be solved analytically. In this paper, the stiffness variations are calculated, and the physical reasoning of linear model and one term Mathieu equation are reviewed. And the numerical analysis for the two term variation of the stiffness is done for the several design parameters of the pantograph.
The TTX(Tilting Train eXpress) is designed to achieve high driving speed up to 200 km/h and to run on conventional curved rails without speed reduction. In order to maintain power collection between catenary and pantograph collector while train body is tilted, the TTX pantograph must have tilting structure (or Sledge). The power quality is determined by the tilting structure. Static and dynamic characteristics of tilting structure, therefore, are important to evaluate the pantograph performance. The current prototype of the tilting structure is overweight model and its structural characteristics have not been investigated. In this study, the finite element model of TTX tilting structure is established and static analysis is performed. Finally, using this result, a light weight model is proposed.
The paper deals with the computational approach in analysis and design of pantograph panhead strips of high-speed railway in aerodynamic and aeroacoustic concerns. Pantograph is an equipment such that the electric power is supplied from catenary system to train. Due to the nature of complexity in high-speed fluid flow, turbulence and downstream vortices result in the instability in the aerodynamic contact between panhead strips and catenary system, and consequently generate the considerable levels of flow-induced sound. In this paper, based on the preceding low speed wind-tunnel test and simulations, the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics in low speed are analyzed.
There are three items, which are panhead displacement, tilting angle of pan head, required moment of main shaft, which representing kinematic performance of pantograph. Kinematic variables effective on kinematic performance are length of each components and installation angle, In this study, cost function is defined with 3 items, By this cost function, length of thrust rod was optimized. Finite element analysis was used to consider structural soundness. Finite element model was qualified by comparison between analysis result with experiment result. By qualified F.E, model various severe condition was simulated to consider structural soundness.
Wind tunnel test of a new pantograph, that is developed through the KHST project, was performed in RTRI wind tunnel test center of Japan end of last June. This paper indtroduces the measurement results and analysis of noise measurement part that is achieved during the wind tunnel test. The maximum measured sound pressure level at 5m shows 102.3dB(A) at 350km/h and it leads to 88.3dB(A) of predicted sound pressure at 25m that satisfy 91dB(A) of evaluation criteria. Major noise sources of the pantograph was identified as a link between upper and lower arm, panhead contact strips and shunt wires.
Running test of the Korean High-Speed Train using remote controlled measuring system have been executed on the high speed track in order to evaluate and verify the performance of the train. In this paper, influencing factors on the contact force which represents dynamic characteristics between the pantograph and contact wire are analyzed, according to the track condition, span type and running condition. By the analytical study on the test data, we figured out that contact force and dynamic characteristics of the pantograph are mainly affected by running behavior of the train and the span distance which the train passes.

Electric power collection is one of the most important factors for the high-speed trains' operation. For the stable current collection, the contact wire of a catenary and the panhead of a pantograph should maintain a constant contact each other. In this paper, the catenary was modeled as a spring with time-varying stiffness from the point of a pantograph moving along the catenary, and the pantograph was modeled as a 3-D.O.F. mass-spring-damper system. Using the adaptive control method, the desired control performance could be obtained with the modeling errors and the time varying parameters. Also the state estimator was used considering the difficulty of applying the sensors obtaining feedback signals. Simulations were accomplished in various ...
