  • A new display device is required, which has concepts of flatness and slimness. FED can be one of the solutions. When we use flat panel, we can save the raw material and reduce the production time by eliminating the printing process, drying process, and washing process. In this case, good panel flatness and consistency with panel flatness and black matrix is the precondition. Therefor, we analyzed process capability of panel flatness and regression between panel flatness and BM position by experiments.

  • The north panel of a geostationary satellite is used as one of the main radiators, on which communication equipment or bus equipment are installed. The thermal control of panel is designed by using embedded heat pipes and surface heat pipes (or external heat pipes) to spread out heat dissipated from equipment all over the radiator evenly and finally to reject the heat to the space through the radiator efficiently. This panel is also divided by several areas based on the operating temperature and dissipation of equipment in order to increase heat rejection capability of radiator. The thermal analysis is carried out for the hot case, Winter Solsitce EOL (End Of Life), in order to validate thermal design of the panel utilized 6 surface heat pipes and 8 embedded heat pipes. The sensitivity studies for the heat pipe failure case and no heat pipe case are performed and compared to its normal state. The heat transport capability of heat pipe is also obtained from these calculations.

  • A study to determine the structure-borne noise radiated by a dash panel of a real car is performed by using the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM). The radiation efficiency is used to estimate the structure-borne noise radiated by a dash panel. The curved surfaces of a dash panel change the radiation efficiency. Experimental results of radiation efficiency of a simple rectangular plate and a dash panel show good agreements with the simulation results.

  • This paper presents the model updating of an equipment panel by using modal test and sensitivity analysis. The equipment panel is one of the major structures of communication satellite, on which broadcasting and communication equipments are mounted. For high rigidity and light weight, the panel was designed as an aluminum honeycomb sandwich panel. In addition, heat pipes were embedded in the panel for thermal control. It is essential to improve the finite element model of a satellite by using modal test in order to verify the satellite is designed with adequate margin under launch environment. In this paper, Young's modulus of aluminum facesheet was selected as a modified parameter by sensitivity analysis. The effect of rotational springs of boundary points was also considered.

  • This paper is a study on the elasto-plastic analysis of reinforced concrete precast large panel connections by rigid element spring model. In the analysis of rigid element spring model, each collapsed part or piece of structures at limiting state of loading is assumed to behave like rigid bodies. The present author propose new elements for the improement and expansion of the rigid element spring model. In this study, it is proposed how the rigid element method can be applied to the elesto-plastic analysis of precat large panel connections. Some numerical results of analytical modeling and load displacement curves are shown.

  • KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) has developed smart unmaned aerial vehicle(UAV) since 2002. Smart UAV has tilt rotor configuration which can take off and land vertically. For designing and developing smart UAV, it is necessary to obtain design loads. ARGON which use the panel method is multidisciplinary aircraft design program developed and modified by KARI and TsAGI. Panel method is very useful to obtain aerodynamic loads, so it have been used widely for aircraft loads analysis. For flight loads analysis, we have to prepare regulations and load conditions, and then design aerodynamic panel model, mass model and structure model. In this paper, we introduce the flight loads analysis procedure briefly, and show the smart UAV loads analysis procedure and result using ARGON.

  • In panel studies in which the same respondents are interviewed repeatedly over the long term, panel attrition may cause the problems in the reliability of the result and the representativeness of the sample in panel study. In this article, we explore the risk factors of sample attrition in the first 11 waves of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS) data covering the years 1998-2008, for which the survival analysis techniques such as life-table method and Cox proportional hazard model based on the time to the attrition of each respondent as the survival time of the respondent are applied.

  • This study is on the optimal rise depth of embossed panel for the ESS water tank. The thickness of panel is reduced at pressing operation, it could be calculated by volume conservation condition. The analysis of panel using STS304 material conducted by FEM. As a result of structural analysis, it was found that the optimal rise depth of arch embossed panel is recommended to be 70~90mm and the optimal rise depth of pyramid embossed panel is recommended to be 150~200mm. The proposed value of optimal rise depth could be a useful to the economic design of ESS water tank panel.

  • To understand panel driving more accurately, the optical properties and their distributions in the LCD panel itself, excluding the backlight, were investigated by measuring the transmittance of a one-dot pixel as a function of time. First, the behavior of time-dependent transmittance was analyzed, and it was found that the off-state TFT was not in a steady state but in a transient state during the holding period. Second, the time average, max, min, and range values of the transmittance curves were examined by varying the common voltage level and gray scale. Third, the analysis of such properties was expanded to cover those of the entire panel in all the gray scales. Lastly, the relationship between their properties and distributions was also investigated along with the contour plots.
