  • This study was conducted to develop the suitable nutrient solutions for variable Cruciferae leafy vegetables. l/2, 1 and 3/2 strength of nutrient solution recommended by National Horticultural Research Institute were supplied to plants in deep flow technique systems during 25 days. The growth of pak-choi and leaf mustard 'Asia curled' was highest in the 3/2 strength, and kaie 'TBC' in the 1 strength. Mean cation ratio of nutrient solution for pak-choi, leaf mustard and kale was K $49.5\%$, Ca $35.8\%$ and Mg $14.7\%$, which was obtained by calculating the uptake rates of water and nutrients. Suitable composition of the nutrient solution for Cruciferae leafy vegetables was N 14, P 3, K 6.8, Ca 4.8, $Mg 2m{\cdot}L^{-1}$. To examine the suitability of nutrient solution developed for Cruciferae vegetables (NSC), plants were grown 4 times from Sep. 2003 to Oct. 2004. When plants were grown in NSC, relative growth rate increased 1.1 to 2.5 times and vitamin C content 1.06 to 1.52 times. The proper plants to apply NSC for functional leaf vegetable production were leaf mustard 'Asia recurled', 'Redcurled' and 'Pamagreen', kale 'TBC', 'Portugal' and 'Hanchu collard', leaf broccoli 'New green', pak-choi, baby cabbage 'Red king' and 'Green king', flowering red chinese cabbage and Korean cabbage.

  • A concept of household container to create and keep the modified atmosphere (MA) beneficial for fresh produce mix was devised and tested under typical chilled storage conditions of 3℃. The container system containing mixed products is initialized by applying weak hypobaric condition (0.9 atm) and subsequently injecting CO2 gas at an appropriate low level (0.03 atm). The passive atmosphere modification by produce respiration is then induced to reach a target until gas diffusion tube of proper dimension starts to open. The design was made to attain quasi-steady state mass balance of O2, CO2 and N2 to maintain the desired MA through the storage. Interrupted opening for taking out or placing some products was to reinitialize the loop of control logic. The developed concept was tested by the container which held commodities of spinach, pak choi, oyster mushroom, peeled onion, strawberry and cut carrot. The target optimum MA of 11% O2 and 10% CO2 (0.11 and 0.10 atm, respectively) was set to avoid injurious range of O2 and CO2 concentrations for any commodities. The developed container system could work to reach and maintain beneficial MA of 0.10-0.12 atm O2 and 0.07-0.10 atm CO2 close to the target during the storage contributing to quality retention of products measured in weight loss, chlorophyll content of spinach, ascorbic acid content of pak choi, color of onion, texture of oyster mushroom, bacterial count of strawberry and carotenoids of carrot. The container system shows potential to improve current preservation practice of fresh produce mix on consumers' level.

  • Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) is an optical CCD camera, developed by Center for Exploration of Origin of the Universe (CEOU), which is now searching for high red shift quasar candidates. It has been operated since 2010, attached to the 2.1m Otto Struve telescope at the McDonald Observatory, USA. Based on the previous operation experiences, we present CQUEAN II system design which has a new filter wheel allowing with 20 narrow band filters. In addition, the auto guiding system will be rearranged and the interfacing units between the telescope and the instrument will become stabilized.

  • Mesothermal, tellurium-bearing gold-silver vein mineralization of the Yuryang mine was formed in mineralogically complex quartz-sulfide veins that filled the fault fractures in Precambrian gneiss within Gyeonggi Massif. Ore grades average 179 g/ton gold with a gold/silver ratio of 1.5 : 1. Ore mineralization was deposited in single stage. Major ore mineralization can be divided into two mineralization phases with increasing paragenetic time: Fe-sulfide and base-metal mineralization phase $\rightarrow$ telluride mineralization phase. • This investigation was designed to determine the effectiveness of the posterior occlusal schemes on masticatory activity during mastication in complete denture. Twelve edentulous subjects were selected for this study. All subjects had no past history and no functional abnormality on masticatory system and TMjoint. And, they had residual ridge of favorable morphology, firm mucosa and Class I skeletal jaw relationship, Twelve experimental denture with interchangeable occlusions(0-degree teeth, 30-degree teeth, Levin teeth and S-A teeth) were constructed for this study. The masticatory performance was analyzed by means of standard sieve(10, 16, 20, 30sieve), and the electrical activity from selected muscles(Temporalis and Masseter muscle) was recorded simultaneously with electromyography (Bio-Pak system) as the subject masticated test foods (rice, peanut and gum) with four different occlusal schemes. Mandibular movement was, also, measured with Sirognathography(Bio-Pak system). These recordings were performed in immediately, after 1 week and after 2 weeks of insertion of complete denture. The results were as fellows; 1. The average masticatory performance of 0-degree artificial teeth was higher than any other artificial teeth. 2. Masticatory performance in denture wearer was affected preferentially by food and artificial occlusal schemes. 3. During chewing, there was a statistical difference of EMG activity between masseter and temporal muscle(p<0.01). Especially, EMG activity of working masticatory muscle was highly affected by food rather than by artificial occlusal schemes. 4. In denture wearer, the velocity of opening was not affected by food, whereas, the velocity of closing was faster in soft food chewing than in hard food chewing, and the amount of vertical displacement was grater in chewing of soft and large bolus than in chewing of hard and small bolus. However, the amount of lateral displacement showed conversely(p<0.05). 5. It was considered that masticatory performance in denture wearer is not affected by the condition of residual ridge. the history of denture wear, the preference, the adaptation to artificial teeth and the total mesiodistal length of artificial posterior teeth.

  • Seven brands of commercial apple juice in Korea obtained from local stores were analyzed for patulin. Sep-Pak silica cartridge purification of the extract by ethyl acetate offered a good separation of patulin from other components. Patulin was determined by reverse phase liquid chromatography using a J'sphere $4\;{\mu}m$ ODS-H80 column with an ultraviolet detector set at 274 nm. Patulin concentrations in four samples ranged from 4 to $20\;{\mu}g/L$ and the other three samples from 30 to $45\;{\mu}g/L$. The limit of detection was $3\;{\mu}g/L$, and the recovery was $80{\sim}90%$ at the contamination level of $3.78{\sim}125.9\;{\mu}g/L$.

  • The optimum conditions for the half-life time and residual analysis of the iminoactadine triacetate fungicide on soils were investigated by using the gas chromatography. Iminoctadine triacetate(IOTA) was extracted from soils with 2.0 M-NaOH/methanol and chloroform. The extracted IOTA was derivatized to pyrimidine hexafluroacetylacetone by the acetylation and analyzed with GC/ECD after elimination of moisture and impurities on the Sep-Pak column. From the standard addition experiments with 0.1 and 1.0 ppm, the average recoveries were ranged from 83.8 to 93.2 % and the detection limit was 0.005 ppm. The half-life time of iminoctadine triacetate in the silty clay was 30 days in the laboratory and 19.5 days in the field test whereas it was 27 days and 17.5 days for each in case of silty loam.
