포장재에 따른 멸균품의 유효기간에 관한 연구 (Study on the Shelf Life of Sterilized Products according to Packaging Materials)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the most appropriate shelf life for sterilized products according to their packaging material. Methods: Samples were prepared to target six nursing units in one general hospital in Seoul. After steam and E.O gas sterilization, sterilized product, samples were supplied to wards. Data collection was conducted for 3 months, after the expiration date of 3 months had passed for samples packaged with crepe paper and nonwoven wraps. For samples packaged with paper-plastic pouches, data collection conducted for 3 months when the expiration date of 9 months had passed. The sterilized products were collected and tested for microbial contamination. Identification of the storage environment was done as samples were collected. Results: This study confirmed that the storage environment met international standards such as CDC, except for temperature. For steam sterilized crepe paper packaging samples and steam and E.O gas sterilized for nonwoven packaging samples no contamination in all products was found for 3 months past the expiration date. However, in the E.O gas sterilized paper-plastic pouch packaging sterile samples, Gram-positive bacilli were detected in one sample from a surgical intensive care unit at 45 weeks and another sample from an operating room at 47 weeks. Furthermore, the results did not show any microorganisms for up to 52 weeks in all products. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, sterilized product packaging made with crepe paper and nonwoven wraps is better able an extended shelf life from 3 months to 6 months, reducing unnecessary costs.

유럽의 포장 폐기물 발생 및 포장 재료별 재활용에 관한 고찰 (Survey on Packaging Waste Occurrence and Recycling for Each Packaging Material in Europe)

  • 유럽의 포장 폐기물 통계를 다양한 관점에서 확인하기 위해서 Eurostat의 데이터베이스 중심으로 유럽의 포장 폐기물 발생 및 처리의 연도별 변화, 유럽 국가들의 재생률과 재활용률 목표 그리고 유럽 국가별 재활용률로 정리하여 분석하였다. 2005년부터 2013년까지 기간 동안의 모든 포장 폐기물 발생량에서 포장 재료 중 종이 및 판지가 가장 많이 생산되었음을 확인하였으며, 주요 포장 재료의 점유율 성장 추이에서는 대체적으로 포장 재료 간 일정한 추세를 확인하였다. 또한 유럽 연합 회원국들은 포장 폐기물 재생률과 재활용률 목표 지침을 제정하고 있는데, 2008년 이 지침이 제정된 후로 대부분의 EU 국가들이 잘 지키고 있었다. 마지막으로 Eurostat에서는 포장 폐기물의 양과 재활용된 양을 유리, 종이 및 판지, 금속, 플라스틱, 목재 등의 포장 재료별로 폐기물의 재활용 비율을 산출하고 있는데, 유럽의 전체 포장 폐기물의 재활용 비율의 경우 계속해서 증가하는 추세를 확인하였다. 이를 통해 EU 국가별로 포장 재료별 폐기물의 양과 재활용된 양을 비교 분석하고 이러한 추세 변화에 따른 GDP 감소와 경제적 슬럼프와 같은 포장 폐기물과 재활용에 따른 간접적인 영향력도 확인할 수 있었다.

  • China has witnessed tremendous changes especially in the field of packaging industry after the reform and opening policy commencing in early 1979. Thanks to the reform and opening policy by Deng Xiaoping, a former leader of China, packaging industry has been selected as one of the specialized industries, and this policy has made great achievements in the field of packaging. The total volume of packaging industry now ranks the first in the overall industry in China and this indicates that this industry is taking a great role to bust up economic growth of China. In this paper, The facts and forecasts of packaging industry and education in China are introduced.

국내 과실 선도유지 특성 및 포장기술 고찰 (Review of Quality Changes of Postharvest Fruits and Packaging Applications to Extend Their Shelf Life)

  • In response to the continuous changes in current consumer demands and market trends for postharvest produces, the functional application for agricultural packaging is becoming increasely significant. This paper focuses on the overview of important changes in physical and chemical status related to postharvest physiology and applications of the functional packaging materials for maintaining the freshness of fruits after harvest. During postharvest treatment and storage periods, fresh fruits undergoes the ripening process in quality attributes of the fruit such as major changes of texture, color, and flavor. Major fruit packaging technologies are concerned with correct gas permeable film and functions of ethylene removal, antimicrobial, and antifogging substances to keep the effective freshness. Application guidelines for the functional packaging in fresh produces were studied.

전자레인지 서셉터 패키징 기술개발 현황 (Mini Review: A Current Status of Microwave Susceptor Packaging)

  • As HMR (home meal replacement) food market grows rapidly, a new packaging with more HMR specialized functions is highly required to promote consumers' convenience. A susceptor is defined as a material generating heat by absorbing electromagnetic energy such typically as radiofrequency or microwave radiation. In microwave cooking, susceptors are made of conductive metal thin film deposited on paper or plastic sheet and have generally been used to help crispen or brown foods by converting microwave energy into heat. This mini review article deals with current status of microwave susceptor packaging including commercial products, technical theory, types of susceptor and a test method for heating performance.

국내 한약재의 유통상 품질 문제점과 포장표준화를 통한 대응방안 고찰 (A Review on Quality Control of Korean Medicinal Herbs Through Packaging Standardization)

  • The production, distribution, and consumption of Korean medicinal herbs have increased every year because of an increase of health considerations. But there are no sufficient standardization procedures in packaging and distribution systems related to these herb products. The standardization of packaging material and dimension could be a good addition for establishing proper quality control methods for Korean medicinal herbs. Medicinal herbs deteriorate under physical, chemical and biological hazards such as oxidation, textural change under high moisture content, color change by light, sanitation problems by insect invasion and contamination. Packaging standardization with proper functional packaging materials is critical to ensure the qualities of medicinal herbs. Also, storage and distribution efficiencies can be improved by achieving packaging dimension standardization. This review summarizes recent research trends related to quality evaluation methods and major quality deterioration factors of Korean medicinal herbs. This paper also offers reviews on some of problems and challenges in current packaging and distribution systems of medicinal herb industries and briefly suggests advanced quality control methods through packaging standardization.

떡 포장 개선을 위한 국내 수도권 지역 소비자의 기호도 조사 (A Survey on the Consumer Preferences for Korean Rice Cake Packaging in the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • 현재 시장에서 유통되고 있는 떡 포장은 플라스틱 재료가 주로 사용하며 랩핑 포장 방법을 많이 사용하고 있다. 현재 시장에서 판매되는 떡들은 당일 생산 및 당일 소비(2일내 소비)를 하는 제품으로 포장을 중요성을 많이 고려하고 있지 않지만, 최근 유통기한이 늘어난 떡 제품의 상품화를 위해서 떡 포장의 개발에 관심이 높아지고 있다. 떡의 상품화 증대를 위하여 수도권 지역 소비자 대상 중심으로 포장 개선에 대한 기호도 조사에서 절취선을 손으로 개봉하는 개봉방법, 2~3개의 파티션(홈)이 존재하는 내부 디자인, 제품을 낱개 포장한 포장, 포장에 직접 인쇄하는 인쇄방법, 내용물의 상태가 완전히 보일 수 있는 포장방법을 선호하는 것으로 파악되었다. 본 연구는 국내 떡 제품에 대한 상품성 부여를 위하여 현재 소비자가 떡 제품 포장의 선호하는 트랜드 분석과 포장의 중요성이 인지되고 있다는 점에서 큰 의미를 부여할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서 고려한 국내 주요 떡 제품 포장에 따른 소비자 구입 선호도를 조사 연구를 기반으로 다양한 떡 종류 및 형태에 따른 포장 소비 선호도 그리고 각 포장 방법 변경에 따른 상품화 가능성 및 가격 변화 요인을 고려한 연구가 향후 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 조사 연구 결과로 제시한 떡 포장 설계 구조의 적용과 함께 떡의 품질 개선을 위한 기능성 포장재 적용 연구 및 최적 제품 환경을 조성하는 포장 기법 연구 등을 통하여 떡 제품의 부가가치를 향상 시킬 수 있으리라 기대해 본다.

카톤지와 골판지를 이용한 친환경 논스테이플 박스와 케이스 디자인 구조개발 (The Development of Design Structure for Environmental Friendly Non-Staple Boxes and Cases Made by the Carton and Corrugated Paperboard)

  • Carton and corrugated paperboard have excellent convertibility characteristics that could be easily slitted, folded, and inserted to become a certain shape of box or case. This excellent processing characteristics of carton and corrugated paperboard as well as their recyclability will continue to make them possess high portion in packaging markets. However, staple, tape, or adhesive have been used to seal a paperboard packaging box or case. Staples among them have been frequently used in many cases because of their convenience. Staples could enter the inside the box and give wounds to the goods in the box or case. Furthermore additional handling and waste treatment costs in the making and recycling processes would be necessary when staple is used to seal box or case. This study has been carried out to develop non-staple paperboard packaging box & case designs that can be used to make non-staple boxes & cases. It is believed that the non-staple folding paperboard boxes & cases could be more environmental-friendly, beautiful, and economic than staple boxes & cases.

산업용 코일 포장을 위한 협동 양팔 로봇 시스템의 개발 (Development of Collaborative Dual Manipulator System for Packaging Industrial Coils)

  • This paper introduces a dual manipulator system designed to automate the packaging process of industrial coils, which exhibit higher variability than other structured industrial fields due to diverse commercial requirements. The conventional solution involves the direct-teaching method, where an operator instructs the robot on a target configuration. However, this method has distinct limitations, such as low flexibility in dealing with varied sizes and safety concerns for the operators handling large products. In this sense, this paper proposes a two-step approach for coil packaging: motion planning and assembly execution. The motion planning includes a Rapidly-exploring Random Tree algorithm and a smoothing method, allowing the robot to reach the target configuration. In the assembly execution, the packaging is considered a peg-in-hole assembly. Unlike typical peg-in-hole assembly handling two workpieces, the packaging includes three workpieces (e.g., coil, inner ring, side plate). To address this assembly, the paper suggests a suitable strategy for dual manipulation. Finally, the validity of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments with three different sizes of coils, replicating real-world packaging situations.

왕겨초액 처리지의 항균 특성 (Antimicrobial Properties of Paper Treated with Acidic Liquid from Carbonized Rice Hull)

  • Antimicrobial activities of the Acidic Liquid originated from Carbonized Rice Hull(ALCRH) and the paper treated with ALCRH were investigated to apply ALCRH to functional paper products as a natural antimicrobial agent. ALCRH showed antimicrobial activity for bacteria and yeast, with higher performance for bacteria than for yeast. Antimicrobial activity was not developed on paper coated with ALCRH by bar coater probably due to the evaporation of antimicrobial compounds of ALCRH from the paper surface with time. Saturation of paper with ALCRH was essential to develop antimicrobial activity on the paper. Dipping paper in ALCRH solution was recommended as one of the effective ways to make antimicrobial paper.
