  • In this study, the limit range of input acceleration was investigated based on time domain and response spectrum analyses by considering the relative density, groundwater depth, and soil type. Special attention was paid to the input acceleration and shear modulus of soil, which affect pile behavior. The surrounding soil was identified as an elastoplastic material and subjected to FLAC3D analysis using the Mohr-Coulomb and Finn models as well as FB-Multiplier analysis using a nonlinear p-y curve for soil spring. Based on the analyses, the limit range of acceleration on the pile is much higher for SP soil than for SM soil, and the groundwater level tends to reduce the limit range of input acceleration, irrespective of soil conditions. The limit range of acceleration was mainly affected by the shear modulus. The limit range of acceleration with nonlinear soil behavior is proportional to the relative density of the surrounding soil.

  • Recently efficient implementation of finite field operation has received a lot of attention. Among the GF($2^m$) arithmetic operations, multiplication process is the most basic and a critical operation that determines speed-up hardware. We propose a hardware architecture using Mastrovito method to reduce processing time. Existing Mastrovito multipliers using the special generating trinomial p($\chi$)=$x^m$+$x^n$+1 require $m^2$-1 XOR gates and $m^2$ AND gates. The proposed multiplier needs $m^2$ AND gates and $m^2$+($n^2$-3n)/2 XOR gates that depend on the intermediate term xn. Time complexity of existing multipliers is $T_A$+( (m-2)/(m-n) +1+ log$_2$(m) ) $T_X$ and that of proposed method is $T_X$+(1+ log$_2$(m-1)+ n/2 ) )$T_X$. The proposed architecture is efficient for the extension degree m suggested as standards: SEC2, ANSI X9.63. In average, XOR space complexity is increased to 1.18% but time complexity is reduced 9.036%.

  • In a methodological approach to improve the processing performance of modulo exponentiation which is the primary arithmetic in RSA crypto algorithm, we present a new RSA hardware architecture based on high-radix modulo multiplication and CRT(Chinese Remainder Theorem). By implementing the modulo multiplier using radix-16 arithmetic, we reduced the number of PE(Processing Element)s by quarter comparing to the binary arithmetic scheme. This leads to having the number of clock cycles and the delay of pipelining flip-flops be reduced by quarter respectively. Because the receiver knows p and q, factors of N, it is possible to apply the CRT to the decryption process. To use CRT, we made two s/2-bit multipliers operating in parallel at decryption, which accomplished 4 times faster performance than when not using the CRT. In encryption phase, the two s/2-bit multipliers can be connected to make a s-bit linear multiplier for the s-bit arithmetic operation. We limited the encryption exponent size up to 17-bit to maintain high speed, We implemented a linear array modulo multiplier by projecting horizontally the DG of Montgomery algorithm. The H/W proposed here performs encryption with 15Mbps bit-rate and decryption with 1.22Mbps, when estimated with reference to Samsung 0.5um CMOS Standard Cell Library, which is the fastest among the publications at present.

  • In this paper, a MW-Mvar investment technique focused on minimizing the system loss is presented. An optimization technique, in which the system loss is defined as the objective function and the power flow equations as the constraints, is introduced to obtain the Lagrangian multipliers λP and λQ. The Lagrangian multipliers imply the variation of the system loss with respect to incremental bus power and are used as MW-Mvar investment indices for minimizing the system loss. ΔP MW and ΔQ Mvar are invested, step by step, by the priority of λP and λQ index given for each bus. Derivation of the index uses the information from normal power flow calculation.

  • This study aims to analyze panel data using OECD Health data of 34 years to examine how significant the inequality of income is to the inequality of health. The data was from OECD's pooled Health data of 32 countries from 1980 to 2013. The process of determining analysis model was as follows; First, through the descriptive statistics, we examined averages and standard deviation of variables. Second, Lagrange multiplier test has done. Third, through the F-test, we compared Least squares method and Fixed effect model. Lastly, by Hausman test, we determined proper model and examined effective factor using the model. As a result, rather than Pooled OLS Model, Fixed Effect Model was shown as effective in order to consider the characteristics of individual in the panel. The results are as follows: First, as relative poverty rate(${\beta}=-19.264$, p<.01) grows, people's life expectancy decreases. Second, as the rate of smoking(${\beta}=-.125$, p<.05) and the rate of unemployment (${\beta}=-.081$, p<.01) grows, people's life expectancy decreases. Third, as health expenditure(${\beta}=.414$, p<.01) shares more amount of GDP and as the number of hospital beds(${\beta}=-.190$, p<.05) grows, people's life expectancy increases.

  • The response of pile foundations under lateral loads are usually analyzed using beam-on-nonlinear-Winkler-foundation (BNWF) model framework employing various forms of empirically derived p-y curves and p-multipliers. In practice, the p-y curve presented by the American Petroleum Institute (API) is most often utilized for piles in granular soils, although its shortcomings are recognized. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the BNWF model and to quantify the error in the estimated pile response compared to a rigorous numerical model. BNWF analyses are performed using three sets of p-y curves to evaluate reliability of the procedure. The BNWF model outputs are compared with results of 3D nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis, which are validated via field load test measurements. The BNWF model using API p-y curve produces higher load-displacement curve and peak bending moment compared with the results of the FE model, because empirical p-y curve overestimates the stiffness and underestimates ultimate resistance up to a depth equivalent to four times the pile diameter. The BNWF model overestimates the peak bending moment by approximately 20-30% using both the API and Reese curves. The p-multipliers are revealed to be sensitive on the p-y curve used as input. These results highlight a need to develop updated p-y curves and p-multipliers for improved prediction of the pile response under lateral loading.

  • This paper describes an IC for Power Factor Correction. It can use electrical appliances which convert power from AC to DC. The power factor can be influenced not only phase difference of voltage and current but also sudden change of current waveform. This circuit enables current wave supplied to load by close to sinusoidal and minimum phase difference of voltage and current waveform. A self oscillated 10[kHz]~100[kHz] pulse signal converted to PWM waveform and it chops rectified full wave AC power which flows to load device. The multiplier and zero current detector circuit, UVLO, OVP, BGR circuits were designed. This IC has been designed and whole chip simulation use 0.5[um] double poly, double metal 20[V] CMOS process.

  • This paper describes the results for a numerical analysis of'single piles and pile oops in clayey soils subjected to monotonous lateral loading using the ABAQUS finite element software. The investigated variables in this study include free head and embedded capped single piles, pile diameter (1.0 m, 0.5 m), pile length (7.0 m, 10.0 m), and pile groups. The 1$\times$3 pile group was selected to investigate the individual pile and group lateral resistance, the distribution of the resistance among the piles, the effects of lateral stresses in front of and on the sides of the piles, and the effect of a cap on the lateral resistance of the leading pile. The soil was modeled using Cam-clay constitutive relationship and the pile was considered as a elastic circular concrete pile. The results show that the size of the cap influences lateral capacity of sin pile. The results also show in pile groups, the pile-soil-pile interaction and the cap effect the resistance in the leading pile, and the p-multiplier for the leading pile of greater than 1.0 was able to be obtained.

  • This paper presents experimental results of a series of 1-g shaking table model tests performed on end-bearing single piles and pile groups to investigate the effect of particle size on the dynamic behavior of soil-pile systems. Two soil-pile models were tested twice: first using Jumoonjin sand, and second using Australian Fine sand. In the case of single-pile models, the lateral displacement was almost within 1% of pile diameter which corresponds to the elastic range of the pile. The back-calculated p-y curves show that the subgrade reaction of the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground was larger than that of the Australian Fine-sand-model ground at the same displacement. This phenomenon means that the stress-strain behavior of Jumoonjin sand was initially stiffer than that of Australian Fine sand. This difference was also confirmed by resonant column tests and compression triaxial tests. And the single pile p-y backbone curves of the Australian fine sand were constructed and compared with those of the Jumoonjin sand. As a result, the stiffness of the p-y backbone curves of Jumunjin sand was larger than those of Australian fine sand. Therefore, using the same p-y curves regardless of particle size can lead to inaccurate results when evaluating dynamic behavior of soil-pile system. In the case of the group-pile models, the lateral displacement was much larger than the elastic range of pile movement at the same test conditions in the single-pile models. The back-calculated p-y curves in the case of group pile models were very similar in both sands because the stiffness difference between the Jumoonjin-sand-model ground and the Australian Fine-sand-model ground was not significantly large at a large strain level, where both sands showed non-linear behavior. According to a series of single pile and group pile test results, the evaluation group pile effect using the p-multiplier can lead to inaccurate results on dynamic behavior of soil-pile system.
