Validation of Segmental Multi-Frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis based on the Segmental Bioelectrical Impedance analysis in the Elderly Population (분절임피던스를 기준한 분절다주파수 생체임피던스의 일치도 분석)

  • A frequently used bioimpedance analytical method in Korea is the segmental multi-frequency BIA (SMF-BIA) method, but it is not directly determined at a segmented impedance. This study was to compare SMF-BIA determinations with direct segmented determinations for accuracy and appropriateness of segment parameters. This study is to compare the segment parameters, accuracy and appropriateness of the multi-frequency segmental bioimpedance analysis. To this end, 108 elderly individuals were measured. Segmented bioelectrical measurements obtained from a SMF-BIA (Inbody S10) at 50 kHz and measured with a phase sensitive single frequency device (SF-BIA, bia-101, RJL / akern systems) were compared. The significant difference (%) was demonstrated between single - and multiple frequency determinations of the right upper limb (R = 35.5 ± 6.2%, P < 0.001; Xc = 2.7 ± 7.6%, P < 0.01), left upper limb difference (R= 33. 9 ± 6.0%, P < 0.001; Xc = 2.8 ± 8.3%, P < 0.01), right lower limb difference (R = 18.6 ± 4.3%, P < 0.001; Xc = 25.8 ± 10.0%, P < 0.001), left lower limb difference (R = 18.0 ± 4.7%, P < 0.001; Xc = 31.8%). Of the results determined with the two BIA methods, the impedance measurements of the limbs and whole body showed a high correlation (RA: R = 0. 950, LA: R = 0. 949, RL: R = 0.899, LL: R = 0.88), and in the agreement test, the impedance values of the upper limbs and whole body also showed strong agreement (ICC > 0.9), but in the Xc, the correlation was weak. In conclusion, it was found that although bioimpedance devices had significantly different characteristics and inconsistent cross sectionally, there was a high population level agreement in the upper and lower extremities in determining segmental resistance value changes. But a large error was found on the trunk. Further studies were needed for reducing the error.

Studies on Quality Characteristics of Pork Classified by Hunter L Value (Hunter L 값에 따른 돈육의 육질 특성 연구)

  • Meat quality of the domestic pork carcasses(n=330) classified in 3 groups according to the Hunter L values postmortem($\leq$50, 50.1∼55.0 and $\geq$55.1) was investigated. The carcass temperature(3, 5, 10 and 15hr postmortem) and temperature falling rate of postmortem increased as the Hunter L value increased. The pH postmortem(pH$\_$ohr/, pH$\_$24hr/) decreased as the Hunter L value decreased. In physical traits, the water holding capacity(WHC) increased and the purge loss decreased as the Hunter L value increased. However, shear force, cooking loss and fat hardness were not significantly different among different. Hunter L value groups(p<0.05). The meat color indices(CIE L*, a*, b*, chroma, hue and ΔE) increased as Hunter L value increased. The sensory characteristics had no significant difference among different Hunter L value groups(p<0.05). In conclusion, the results suggested that Hunter L values were related with pork quality such as temperature, pH, physical traits and color.

Study on Anomalous Polarographic Behavior of Cd (II) in Tartrate Solution (타르타르酸염支持溶液에서의 Cd (II) 폴라로그람의 異常波에 關한 硏究)

  • The polarograms of Cd(II) in 0.15M tartrate solution were investigated in the range of pH values from 6.0 to 12.6 at 20$^{\circ}and 25$^{\circ}C. Up to pH value of 7.8, the limiting current and the halfwave potential were found to be constant, and when compared with the nitrate solution of the same $Cd^{++}$ concentration at the same ionic strength, the limiting current decreased by 28% and the halfwave potential shifted by -0.05 volt. The values of limiting current sharply decreased as the pH value exceeded 8.2 and the minimum values appeared at the pH values of 11.2~11.4. The values of halfwave potential gradually decreased as the pH value increased over 8.2 and the value of -0.78 volt was obtained at the pH value of 12.6. Possible mechanisms of electrode reaction were suggested and the anomalous behavior of reduction waves of Cd(II) in tartrate solution up to pH value of 9.4 was discussed.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the capacity of environment purification of forest and to reveal formation processes of stream water quality by evaluating water quality variations in forest hydrological processes. Water quantity, pH, electric conductivity(EC), dissolved oxygen(DO), and dissolved matter concentrations were monitored in open rainfall, throughfall, stemflow, litter flow and short-term stream flow for one unit storm, and also for those were monitored in long-term stream flow in Palgong, Yongsung, and Daedong catchments. The results were summarized as follows; 1. pH and DO values of stream flow were increased as the flux increased but EC values were decreased. 2. pH values of stemflow and throughfall were decreased with the lapse of rainfall time with lower values than open rainfall. Arid EC values were higher in initial rainfall period but lower gradually with the lapse of time than open rainfall. In litter flow, pH values were lower than open rainfall but EC values were higher. In stream flow, pH values of stream flow showed a high level in initial rainfall period and decreased remarkably with the lapse of time, but it recovered after the rainfall stopped. And however, the values of EC showed almost reverse tendency. DO values of litter flow and stream flow were decreased gradually with the lapse of time in litter flow and stream flow but there were no any tendency in open rainfall, stemflow and throughfall. 3. pH values of stemflow and throughfall in Quercus acutissima were higher than in Pinus densiflora, but EC values were lower. Total amount of canons in stemflow was higher in Pinus densiflora than in Quercus acutissima. 4. pH, DO, EC and total amount of cation values in hydrological processes were in the order of; litter flow

A Study on the Effectiveness of Horticultural Therapy on the Emotional Stability of Children From Broken Homes (원예심리치료가 결손가정아동의 정서적 안정에 미치는 효과성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of horticultural therapy on children from broken homes: this treatment program, implemented in the social welfare field, targets the children's depression, self-esteem, and social and emotional stress. Its object was composed of 13 lower grade students enrolled in special facilities according to the life-cycle method, and its data were collected as making use of the structured questionnaire. The horticultural Therapy Program was practiced 14 sessions in total from September 2nd to December 16th, 2010, and its results in summary are as follows; The sociality in horticultural therapy was higher by .53 point in 2.76 after practice than in 2.23 before practice, and its value of the ability to cope with stress was higher by 0.52 point in 2.82 after coping with stress than in 2.30 before that. That was meaningful (t=-1.4398, p<.05). The value of anxiety was lower by .15 in 1.45 post-anxiety than in 1.60 pre-anxiety, and that was meaningful (t=-2.3842, p<.05). The value of self-esteem is higher by .42 in 2.92 post-self-esteem than in 2.50 pre-self-esteem, and that was strategically meaningful (t=-1.1871, p<.05). The value of emotional assessment was higher by 2.05 in 5.25 post-emotional assessment than in 3.20 pre-emotional assessment, and that was strategically meaningful (t=-2.4599, p<.05). Based on these results, this study suggests that this horticultural therapy program should apply to the issues of children in social welfare field as one of various approaches.

  • For time series analysis, power transformation (especially log-transformation) is widely used for variance stabilization or normalization for stationary ARMA(p, q) model. A simple and naive back transformed forecast is obtained by taking the inverse function of expectation. However, this back transformed forecast has a bias. Under the assumption that the log-transformed data is normally distributed. The unbiased back transformed forecast can be obtained by the expectation of log-normal distribution; consequently, the property of this back transformation was studied by Granger and Newbold (1976). We investigate the sensitivity of back transformed forecasts under several different underlying distributions using simulation studies.

Quality Characteristics of Jelly Containing Added Pomegranate Powder and Opuntia humifusa Powder (석류와 천년초 분말을 첨가한 젤리의 품질특성)

  • This study was conducted to identify the optimal mixing ratios of pomegranate powder or Opuntia humifusa powder for the production of jelly. To establish the amount of pomegranate powder or Opuntia humifusa powder that could be added to jelly, physicochemical sensory characteristics and textural properties were measured. Specifically, jellies were prepared using gelatin that contained a ratio of 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2%(w/w) pomegranate powder or Opuntia humifusa powder. Sensory evaluation of the sweetness, chewiness, springiness, hardness, transparency and overall acceptability of jelly prepared using 0.5% pomegranate powder resulted in a high score. Similarly, the appearance, sweetness, chewiness, springiness, hardness, transparency and overall acceptability of jelly prepared using 0.5% Opuntia humifusa powder received a high score. Taken together, the results of this study suggest that pomegranate and Opuntia humifusa can be useful in the production of high quality jelly.

  • 식물조직배양용 바이오리액터내 배양액의 pH, DO 농도를 on-line으로 계측하고 제어하기 위한 시스템을 개발하여 시스템의 성능시험과 경시간격별 배양액의 농도변화를 계측하였으며, 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 가. 복수의 바이오리액터내 배양액의 pH, DO 농도를 전극을 이용하여 on-line으로 계측하며, 농도의 계측값과 목표값을 비교하여 피드백으로 제어할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 나. 배양액의 농도변화를 계측한 결과 pH는 배양초기 5.0에서 배양이 경과됨에 따라 서서히 떨어져 2개월 후에는 3.8까지 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 다. 배양액의 성분중 배양초기에는 암모니아태 질소의 흡수가 질산태 질소보다 많이 이루어져 구근으로부터 H+이온을 유출시킴으로 pH의 값이 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 라 오염이 발생한 리액터내의 배양액 성분은 pH의 값이 3이하로 떨어졌으며, 이로부터 배양액의 오염경보를 할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

냉동 저장 중 지방산화 억제와 지방산화물 생성 저감을 위한 돈육의 부위 및 포장방법의 평가

  • 본 연구의 목적은 냉동 저장 시 돈육의 부위, 포장방법 및 저장기간이 지방산패에 미치는 영향을 측정하기 위하여 실시하였다. pH는 고지방인 삼겹이 저지방인 등심보다 높은 값을 나타냈다(P<0.05). TBARS 값은 저장기간과 포장방법에 의한 차이는 나타나지 않았으나(P>0.05) 저장 후반부로 갈수록 고지방인 삼겹이 저지방인 등심보다 높게 나타났다. (P<0.05). 유리지방산가는 TBARS 값과 반대로 오히려 저지방인 등심이 고지방인 삼겹보다 높게 나타났다(P<0.05). 과산화물가는 저장기간이 증가함에 따라 값이 증가하였다(P<0.05). 미생물 변화는 저장기간, 포장방법, 지방함량에 따른 뚜렷한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. (P>0.05). 추출된 휘발성 화합물들은 저장기간에 따른 변화가 미미하였고 포장방법에 따른 효과는 나타나지 않았으나 (P>0.05) 탄소수 10개 미만인 2,4-dimethyl-1-heptene, hexanal 그리고 4-methyl-2-hexanone은 저지방인 등심보다 고지방인 삼겹에서 더 많이 검출되었으며, 이와는 반대로 탄소수 10개 이상인 고분자 화합물들은 고지방인 삼겹보다는 오히려 저지방인 등심에서 많이 검출되었다(P< 0.05). 상관관계를 조사한 결과 삼겹에서 유리지방산가와 4-methyl-2-hexanone, 등심에서 유리지방산가와 9-octadecenal을 제외하고는 별다른 유의성이 존재하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 식육의 냉동보관은 식육내 존재하는 지방의 산화와 미생물 성장을 억제하여 미생물, 효소 그리고 자동산화로 인해 발생되는 여러 가지 2차 생성물의 생성을 저해하는 것으로 판단된다.

Analysis of Carcass Characteristics by Gender and Carcass Grades of Jeju Native Pigs (제주재래돼지의 성별 및 도체등급에 따른 도체특성 분석)

  • The Jeju native pigs of 168 heads (116 barrows and 52 gilts) were examined to investigate the carcass characteristics related to gender, meat quality grades and yield grades. The averages of carcass characteristics for Jeju native pigs were 72.94 kg for carcass weight, 20.98 mm for backfat thickness, 38.14 for Hunter L*, 4.68 for a*, 6.04 for b*, 5.61 for pH, 3.61 for visual plate meat color, 3.36 for marbling scores, 1.83 for meat quality grades and 2.08 for yield grades, respectively. The carcass weight of gilts was significantly higher than that of barrows (p<0.05). There were no significant differences between barrows and gilts in carcass percent, backfat thickness, and meat color. The pH of barrows was significantly higher than that of gilts (p<0.05). The differences between gender groups were significantly noticed in carcass quality grades, and yield grades (p<0.05). The carcass weight, carcass percent, backfat thickness, and marbling scores for pigs with high grades(1 and 2 grades) were significantly higher than those for pigs with low grades (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference among 4 carcass grades. The carcass weight, carcass percent, backfat thickness, pH, and meat color for carcass with high yield grades were significantly higher than those for carcass with low grades (p<0.05). The meat colors for Hunter L*, a* and b* were not significantly shown in carcass yield grades.
