Changes of oxygen consumption in juvenile giant grouper, Epinephelus lanceolatus were investigated in order to find out the physiological responses associated with freshwater and low salinities acclimation. Salinity changes in this experiment were set as follows; 35 psu (Exp. I) as control, decrease in the manners of $35{\rightarrow}20{\rightarrow}10{\rightarrow}0$ psu (Exp. II), $35{\rightarrow}10{\rightarrow}0$ psu (Exp. III) and $35{\rightarrow}0$ psu (Exp. IV). The average oxygen consumption at $27^{\circ}C$ in Exp. I (control) was $106.9{\pm}0.7mg$$O_2/kg/h$. In Exp. II, according to the changes of $35{\rightarrow}20{\rightarrow}10{\rightarrow}0$ psu in freshwater acclimation, fish showed the gradual decrease in oxygen consumption as $108.1{\pm}2.1$, $99.6{\pm}2.9$, $74.6{\pm}0.9$ and $62.7{\pm}1.0mg$$O_2/kg/h$, respectively. The fish in Exp. III also revealed the same tendency as $106.5{\pm}1.3$, $77.0{\pm}1.2$ and $64.7{\pm}1.2mg$$O_2/kg/h$, respectively. In Exp. IV, fish showed the decreased oxygen consumption from $109.0{\pm}0.9mg$$O_2/kg/h$ of 35 psu to $71.6{\pm}2.0mg$$O_2/kg/h$ of 0 psu. Giant grouper is thought to be a diurnal fish species, because the level of oxygen consumption during light period was higher than that during dark period.
An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of three water temperatures (15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$) in combination with three salinities (0, 15 and 30 psu) on the oxygen consumption rate of juvenile spotted sea bass, Lateolabrax maculatus (mean body weight $5.5{\pm}0.3g$). The oxygen consumption rates of L. maculatus were measured in triplicate for 24 hours using a continuous flow-through respirometer. Water temperature resulted in significant differences in the mean oxygen consumption rate of L. maculatus (p<0.001), but salinity and combinations of salinity and water temperature did not have (p>0.05). The oxygen consumption increased with increasing water temperatures in all experimental salinity regimes (p<001). Mean oxygen consumption rates at 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$ ranged 328.8~342.3, 433.9~441.0 and 651.5~659.9 mg $O_2\;kg^{-1}\;h^{-1}$, respectively. $Q_{10}$ values did not vary with salinity, bud varied with water temperature. $Q_{10}$ values ranged 1.63~1.75 between 15 and $20^{\circ}C$, 2.24~2.26 between 20 and $25^{\circ}C$, and 1.92~1.98 over the full temperature range. The energy loss by metabolic cost increased with increasing water temperatures in all experimental salinity regimes (p<0.001) Mean energy loss rates at 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$ ranged 224.6~233.8, 296.3~301.2 and $444.9{\sim}450.7kJ\;kg^{-1}\;d^{-1}$, respectively. These data suggest that the culture of juvenile spotted sea bass is possible without energy loss by salinity difference in freshwater as well as seawater after salinity acclimation. Thus, this result has an application for culture management and bioenergetic model for growth of this species.

An advanced mobile technology is described for saturating water with oxygen. The MTR(Mass Transfer Reactor) is 2~10 times more effective in dissolving oxygen in water compared to most other systems used in aquaculture, because it can generate extremely small(0.005~0.05mm) bubbles. New fish farming facilities could make use of this technology to build deeper ponds for raising multiple species with optimized conditions for DO(dissolved oxygen), food, light, etc. The proposed technology offers higher DO levels with minimal operating costs. It is easy to use and maintain, with a high reproducibility. Accordingly, the MTR can be industrially applied in the treatment of fish waste and reduction of water consumption during fish farming.
Fuel cell has been well known as a clean alternative power for vehicles. Recently, an experimental technique has been developed measurement of species and distributions by using gas chromatograph. In this study, cathode channel oxygen distributions as various conditions were investigated using gas chromatograph and cell visualization. And discussed relation between flooding and oxygen concentrations. As a result of experiment, oxygen consumpt ion is affected wi th flooding. Flooding is observed in channel near hydrogen inlet, and oxygen consumption is low at that region.

Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, many countries have made the obligation to wear masks normal. Wearing masks in public places has become a must. At present, wearing a mask to participate in sports makes it very common. People seek to gain health through exercise but ignore the potential respirato-ry health threat. That is, wearing a mask will cause a decrease in oxygen content in the body. This neg-ative impact becomes more prominent as the wear-ing time and oxygen consumption increase. To pro-tect people from viruses and enjoy a healthy life. This paper proposes a breathing pattern that im-proves blood oxygen saturation while wearing a jogging mask and walking. Namely, shouting breathing pattern. Use a pulse oximeter to measure the blood oxygen saturation of running at different speeds and compare the normal breathing pattern and the shouting breathing pattern. The results show that the shouting breathing pattern has a sig-nificant improvement in the blood oxygen satura-tion of low-speed walking and medium-speed jog-ging.
The characteristics of two different modes of perfusion culture, intermittent and continuous bleedings, were investigated by culturing the hybridoma cells producing von Willebrand Factor (vWF) monoclonal antibody (McAb) in a 15 L bioreactor without clogging the filter. Both culture methods exhibited similar profiles of cell density and metabolite concentrations during the culture period at the cell concentration of around 1${\times}$107 cells/mL. When the perfusion rate was increased, the intermittrnt bleeding culture showed problems of ammonia accumulation and decrease of cell viability. The continuous bleeding culture in terms of nutrient consumption and metabolite production kinetics. But the analysis of specific oxygen consumption rate showed that the specific oxygen consumption rate of intermittent bleeding culture was similar to that of exponential growth phase. The continuous bleeding culture showed higher specific oxygen consumption rate of intermittent bleeding culture. finally we proved the possibility of long-term operation of continuous bleeding culture and produced approximately 40 g of vWF McAb in a 15L bioreactor after one-month operation.
The present study has been conducted to analyse the effects of various pool diameters on the measurement of heat release rate (HRR) of heptane fire using large scale cone calorimeter (LSC). The burning rate which is the major parameter for HRR compared with the previous model suggested by A. Hamins. The combustion efficiency for heptane by oxygen consumption method is about 91%, which is almost same with the previous results of 92% suggested by J. Gore. The convective HRR by enthalpy consumption method was 54% lower than HRR by oxygen consumption method. This results are practical use for establishing the reliability of heat release rate for fire experiment.
Objectives: For the field application of the dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor, scale-up of the plasma reactor is needed. This study investigated the possibility of inactivation of microorganisms in sewage using pilot multi-plasma reactor. We also considered the possibility of degradation of total organic carbon (TOC) and nonbiodegradable matter ($UV_{254}$) in sewage. Methods: The pilot plasma reactor consists of plasma reactor with three plasma modules (discharge electrode and quartz dielectric tube), liquid-gas mixer, high voltage transformers, gas supply equipment and a liquid circulation system. In order to determine the operating conditions of the pilot plasma reactor, we performed experiments on the operation parameters such as gas and liquid flow rate and electric discharge voltage. Results: The experimental results showed that optimum operation conditions for the pilot plasma reactor in batch experiments were 1 L/min air flow rate), 4 L/min liquid circulation rate, and 13 kV electric discharge voltage, respectively. The main operation factor of the pilot plasma process was the high voltage. In continuous operation of the air plasma process, residual microorganisms, $UV_{254}$ absorbance and TOC removal rate at optimal condition of 13 kV were $10^{2.24}$ CFU/mL, 56.5% and 8.6%, respectively, while in oxygen plasma process at 10 kV, residual microorganisms, $UV_{254}$ absorbance and TOC removal rate at optimal conditions were $10^{1.0}$ CFU/mL, 73.3% and 24.4%, respectively. Electric power was increased exponentially with the increase in high voltage ($R^2$ = 0.9964). Electric power = $0.0492{\times}\exp^{(0.6027{\times}lectric\;discharge\;voltage)}$ Conclusions: Inactivation of microorganisms in sewage effluent using the pilot plasma process was done. The performance of oxygen plasma process was superior to air plasma process. The power consumption of oxygen plasma process was less than that of air plasma process. However, it was considered that the final evaluation of air and oxygen plasma must be evaluated by considering low power consumption, high process performance, operating costs and facility expenses of an oxygen generator.

To clarify the formation process and characteristics of oxygen deficient water mass in Gamak Bay, oxygen deficiency was weekly observed from 17 June to 12 September 2005. Surface water temperature was significantly lower in the outer bay than in the inner bay, whereas the bottom water temperature was higher in the central area of bay than in the outer and inner bay. The vertical stratification of water mass was strongly formed during the period, and thermocline was observed between 3 and 5m deep. The oxygen deficiency in the bottom layer began to appear at early July in the inner bay and gradually spread to the center area of the bay in early August. The mean transparency and light attenuation coefficient($K_d$) in water mass was 4.0m and 0.47, respectively. Average concentrations of nutrient and chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ in the bottom layer were significantly higher than those in surface, and those concentrations were significantly higher in the inner bay than in the outer bay. During the formation of oxygen deficiency in the bottom layer, oxygen penetration depth in the bottom sediment were extremely shallow, and oxygen consumption rate in the bottom sediment were lower than that in the area where oxygen deficient water mass disappeared. Dissolved oxygen concentrations in the bottom layer are negatively correlated with nutrient concentrations, whereas those in the surface layer did not show a significant relationship with nutrient concentrations. Elevated loss of oxygen in the bottom water mass was attributed to the increase of the oxygen consumption rates in sediments and the decomposition of organic matter by microorganism.
The ark shell, Scapharca broughtonii were collected from the Jinhae bay in Kyungnam, Korea from April 2006 to October 2007. To assess how much they have tolerance against hypoxia under the compound condition of temperature and salinity, survivorship, oxygen consumption rate and external features of Scapharca broughtonii were measured, The 7 days-$LC_{50}$ of dissolved oxygen (DO) for Scapharca broughtonii at $15^{\circ}C$-ordinary sea water and $26{\pm}1$ psu was 1.98mg/L (confidence limit: 1,45-2.39 mg/L) and 2.63mg/L (confidence limit: 1.76-3.37mg/L) respectively. Whereas 3 days-$LC_{50}$ at $25^{\circ}C$-ordinary sea water was 3.89mg/L (confidence limit: 3.36-4.55 mg/L) and 4 days-$LC_{50}$ at $25^{\circ}C-26{\pm}1$ psu was 3.74mg/L (confidence limit: 3.19-4,43 mg/L). Oxygen consumption rate with each experimental group was decreased during the period exposed to hypoxia. To recovery, they were replaced to ordinary and oxygen consumption rate was increased a little, but all died, The color of the umbo of shell in Scapharca broughtonii was changed dark during hypoxia. These data will provide important fundamental information for examining the causes of mass mortality of shellfish in the summer.
