  • The irregular fuel surface was observed by the visualization of hybrid rocket combustion. Even though the test condition maintained oxidizer rich environment, the irregular dark fuel surface was formed as the result of incomplete combustion. In order to investigate the correlation of the characteristics of oxidizer flow and the irregular fuel surface, various flow conditions were imposed such as swirl flow, induced swirl flow by helical fuel configuration and straight flow. Test results revealed no correlation was found between oxidizer flow condition and irregular fuel surface. And this can be a commonly observed phenomena in the tests with different fuel/oxidizer combination. Thus, the irregular fuel surface can be a result of the interaction of blowing flow of vaporized fuel and the boundary layer of oxidizer flow. A further study will be required to confirm the assumption for the formation of irregular fuel surface.

  • The oxidizer shutoff valve of a gas generator controls the mass flow rate of the propellant of a rocket engine using pilot pressure and spring the force of the valve. The developing oxidizer shutoff valve can be shut off if the pilot pressure is removed from the actuator. Therefore, force balancing is necessary to analyze the characteristics of the forces with respect to the opening and closing of the valve in order to evaluate its performance. In light of this, the valve has been designed to adjust the control pressure required to open the poppet and to determine the working fluid pressure at which the valve starts to close. Under cryogenic flow test as a tests level of C.R.T(Control Random Test), the chattering phenomena occurred due to much leakage of a metal seat section. The pressure for chattering of the oxidizer valve is predicted at about 11 bar using force balancing analysis.

  • Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is an essential dielectric planarization in multilayer microelectronic device fabrication. In the CMP process it is necessary to minimize the extent of surface defect formation while maintaining good planarity and optimal material removal rates. The polishing mechanism of W-CMP process has been reported as the repeated process of passive layer formation by oxidizer and abrasion action by slurry abrasives. Thus, it is important to understand the effect of oxidizer on W passivation layer, in order to obtain higher removal rate (RR) and very low non-uniformity (NU%) during W-CMP process. In this paper, we compared the effects of oxidizer or W-CMP process with three different kind of oxidizers with 5% hydrogen peroxide such as $Fe(NO_3)_3$, $H_2O_2$, and $KIO_3$. The difference in removal rate and roughness of W in stable and unstable slurries are believed to caused by modification in the mechanical behavior of $Al_3O_3$ particles in presence of surfactant stabilizing the slurry.

  • In this paper, we present an experimental investigation of the frequency characteristics and a visual inspection of an oxidizer pump with a modified rear-floating ring seal for a 7-tonf turbopump. An oxidizer pump typically operates at high rotational speeds and under cryogenic conditions. Despite its low hydraulic efficiency, the floating ring seal is frequently employed as a leakage control solution for turbomachinery because it effectively reduces abrasion by friction. When the oxidizer pump starts up, the floating ring moves excursively but locks up stably against the pump casing when the contact pressure increases. The compressive force on the floating ring depends on the hydrodynamic forces induced by the flow through the floating ring. This force is controlled by the nose position of the floating ring. Based on a validation test for a 7-tonf turbopump with two types of floating rings, we concluded that the floating ring with a small diameter nose can move easily with a low contact pressure in the cooling path. This leads to instability of the pressure fluctuation around the floating ring. In contrast, a floating ring with a large diameter nose has a high contact pressure and attaches strongly to the casing, which causes wear and frictional oxidation between the contact surfaces of the impeller and the floating ring.

  • The combustion characteristic of solid fuel with chamber pressure were experimentally studied in hybrid combustion. This paper was experimental confirmed whether solid fuel affected not only oxidizer mass flux but also chamber pressure. Poly-Ethylene(PE) was used as fuel, GOX was used as oxidizer. Chamber pressure was controled by nozzle throat diameter 6mm and 9mm. In low oxidizer mass flux, solid fuel regression rate was affected not only oxidizer mass flux but also chamber pressure. As well, the regression rate increase as chamber pressure increase with same oxidizer mass flux.

  • It was designed and tested at the design point that an oxidizer rich preburner for a staged combustion liquid rocket engine propelled by kerosene and LOx. The oxidizer rich preburner was designed as some of LOx injected from the mixing head was burned with kerosene and the rest of LOx injected from injection holes in the regenerative cooling chamber was vaporized by combustion gas. The preburner is operated at OF ratio of 60 and combustion pressure of 20 MPa. The Preburner has a honey-comb type mixing head with simplex swirl injectors, a turbulence ring improving combustion stability and uniformity of product gas temperature distribution, and a nozzle simulating the duct. With the combustion test results at the design point, the oxidizer rich preburner showed high combustion stability and uniformity of product gas temperature distribution.

  • A new type of chemical oxidation technology utilizing micro bubble ozone oxidizer and a pneumatic fracturing equipment was developed to enhance field applicability of a traditional chemical oxidation technology using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer for in-situ soil remediation. To find an efficient way to dissolve gaseous ozone into hydrogen peroxide, ozone was injected into water as micro bubble form then dissolved ozone concentration and its duration time were measured compared to those of simple aeration of gaseous ozone. As a result, dissolved ozone concentration in water increased by 31% (1.6 ppm ${\rightarrow}$ 2.1 ppm) and elapsed time for which maximum ozone concentration decreased by half lengthened from 9 min to 33 min. When the developed pneumatic fracturing technology was applied in sandy loam, cracks were developed and grown in soil for 5~30 seconds so that the radius of influence got longer by 71% from 392 cm to 671 cm. The remediation system using the micro bubble ozone oxidizer and the pneumatic fracturing equipment for field application was made and demonstrated its remediation efficiency at petroleum contaminated site. The system showed enhanced remediation capacity than the traditional chemical oxidation technology using hydrogen peroxide with reduced remediation time by about 33%.

  • The wet-air oxidation in gravity pressure reactor is effective for organic waste treatment with energy saving under high pressure and high temperature. But its oxidation control is difficulty because its multi-phase flow characteristics is very complicated. The flow characteristics of an oxidizer feed section in the gravity pressure reactor were investigated using numerical method which are verified by comparison with experimental results. In this study, the results showed that the flow rate of oxidizer have an effect on the generation of bubble around feed section.
