Enzymatic oxidation of pyrogallol was efficiently transformed to an oxidative product, purpurogallin (PPG). Here, the anticoagulant activities of PPG were examined by monitoring activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), prothrombin time (PT), and the activities of thrombin and activated factor X (FXa). And, the effects of PPG on expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) and tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) were evaluated in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ activated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Treatment with PPG resulted in prolonged aPTT and PT and inhibition of the activities of thrombin and FXa, as well as inhibited production of thrombin and FXa in HUVECs. In addition, PPG inhibited thrombin-catalyzed fibrin polymerization and platelet aggregation. PPG also elicited anticoagulant effects in mice. In addition, treatment with PPG resulted in significant reduction of the PAI-1 to t-PA ratio. Collectively, PPG possesses antithrombotic activities and offers a basis for development of a novel anticoagulant.
The photocontrolled reduction of silver nitrate to silver (Ag) nanoparticles on honeycomb-patterned poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK)-cellulose triacetate (CTA) composite thin films was studied. The composites were prepared via the oxidative polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole with ferric chloride using different CTA concentrations. A honeycomb-patterned film was fabricated by casting the composite solution under humid conditions. Ag particles with a homogeneous distribution were produced by the composite film in a moderate CTA concentration, whereas aggregated Ag was obtained from the pure PVK film.
Laccase catalyzes the oxidation and polymerization of aromatic compounds in the presence of molecular oxygen. Studies were conducted to characterize the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an additive to keep up the enzymatic stability. The enzymatic activities highly remained and bisphenol A (BPA) was rapidly converted in the presence of 5 mg/l of PEC. These effects were accomplished with PEG of molecular weight 3,350. A linear relationship was found between the quantity of BPA to be converted $(10-120\;{\mu}M)$ and the optimum dose of PEC required for greater than $95\%$ conversion. This result suggests that it is the interaction between the PEG and the reaction products. In the optimum dose of PEG, the aeration of reaction mixture neither enhanced the conversion of BPA nor retarded the inactivation of the enzyme.
Laccase catalyzes the oxidation and polymerization of aromatic compounds in the presence of molecular oxygen. The oxidative transformation of chlorophene with laccase was conducted in a closed, temperature controlled system. The optimal pH for transformation of chlorophene was proven to be about 5-6. As the temperature rose up to $55^{\circ}C$, the transformation of chlorophene increased. The chlorophene transformation was not enhanced in the presence of soluble polymers. The toxicity of the reaction mixture was increased two times than that of initial reaction mixture after the enzymatic treatment. ABTS has enhanced chlorophene transformation at 0.1 mM and showed negative linear relationship with residual chlorophene by the reaction.

Polyaniline Emeraldine Base (PANI EB) polymerized by chemical oxidative polymerization was doped with Camphorsulfonic Acid(CSA). Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) solutions were solved in organic solvents and sonificated at the room temperature for different solvents in PANI-CSA ES solution and sonification time. PANI-CSA ES solutions was coated on PET films using bar coater. 1-Step oxidatively-polymerized Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) was solved in m-cresol:chloroform 1:1 co-solvents and their solution was bar-coated on PET film. The surface resistivities of these coated films were measured, The surface resistivity of PANI-CSA ES solution in m-cresol:chloroform 1:1 co-solvent system was 5${\times}$10$^2$$\Omega$/$\square$.

Polypyrrole (PPy) was chemically synthesized within the pores of nanoporous polycarbonate (PC) Particle Track-etched Membranes (nano-PTM). Hollow tubules are formed because polypyrrole initially deposits on the surface of the pores walls. By running successive syntheses, we have obtained wires (filled tubules). The redox property of PPy nanotubules was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The redox potential was lowered as much as 0.5V vs. Ag/AgC1, comparing with electrosynthesized PPy film. It suggests that an electron hopping mechanism of PPy nanotubules was improved. Electric conductivity of PPy nanotubules and nanowire was evaluated. We obtained good electric conductivity of PPy nanotubules even in the neutral state. The conductivity and activation energy were $10^1$ order at the room temperature and 25.3 meV respectively.

We synthesized polypyrrole (PPy) nanotubules by oxidative polymerization of the pyrrole monomer within the pores of a polycarbonate template. The electrochemical behavior was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. The redox potential was about -0.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode, while the potential was about 0 V for PPy film. It is considered as the backbone grows according to the pore wall. Therefore, it is possible to be arranged regularly. That leads to improvement in the electron hopping. By electrochemical doping of glucose oxidase (GOx) on PPy nanotubules, an enzyme electrode has been fabricated. The kinetic parameter of biochemical reaction with glucose was evaluated. The formal Michaelis constant and maximum current calculated by computer were about 11.4 mmol $dm^3$ and 170.85 A respectively. Obviously, an affinity for the substrate and current response of the PPy nanotubules enzyme electrode are rather good, comparing with that of PPy film.

Flexible composite films of $V_2O_5$ and conductive polypyrrole ($V_2O_5$/PPy) were grown by facile electrochemical polymerization, wherein an anodization potential was applied to the substrate electrode in an electrolyte solution containing pyrrole monomer and dispersed $V_2O_5$ particles. The coating of polypyrrole (PPy) on the surface of $V_2O_5$ particles was induced by the oxidative catalytic action of $V_2O_5$ during the electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. PPy in the composite film connects the isolated $V_2O_5$ particles. This results in the formation of conductive networks in the composite film cathode, thereby enhancing the Li+ ion diffusion to the surface of the isolated $V_2O_5$ particles and thus increasing the accessibility of the $Li^+$ ions. The specific capacity tests of the Li rechargeable batteries revealed that the discharge capacity of this composite film cathode was higher, i.e., $497\;mAhg^{-1}$, than that of $V_2O_5$/PPy powder or pristine $V_2O_5$.

Poly(3-(2-hydroxyethyl)thiophene) (P3HET) was synthesized using oxidative coupling polymerization that involved the protecting and deprotecting of hydroxyl groups but not the chlorine substitution or oxidative decomposition of the hydroxyl groups. The resulting P3HET exhibited good solubility in aprotic solvents, in contrast to the insoluble polymer product synthesized directly from the monomer, 3-(2-hydroxyethyl)thiophene (3HET). P3HET had low conductivity due to the strong hydrogen bonding of its hydroxyl groups. The ester-functionalized poly(3-(2-acetoxyethyl)thiophene) and poly(3-(4-pentylbenzoateethyl)thiophene) were also prepared with reasonably high molecular weights in order to examine how this functionalization modified the physical and chemical properties of P3HET. These polymers exhibited better solubility in common solvents and higher conductivity than P3HET. All these polymers exhibited bathochromic shifts of their film state absorption maxima with respect to those found in the UV-visible spectra of their solution phases. The extent of the bathochromic shift was found to vary with the lengths of the side chains of the ester-functionalized polymers.
Chitosan oligomer having aldehyde group at reducing end was prepared by oxidative-deamination reaction of chitosan by using sodium nitrite, and the resulting aldehyde group was redeced to 2,5-anhydro-D-mannitol group. The obtained chitosan oligomer showed an average degree of polymerization(DP) 2 by GPC analysis. It was highly soluble in lipophilic solvents. N,N-diacyl, O-acyl chitosan oligomer was obtained trom the reaction between chitosan oligomer and acyl chloride under 4-dimethoxyaminopyridine catalyst. From DSC measurement, N,N-dilauroyl, O-lauroyl chitosan oligomer showed mesophase region, which was confirmed by polarizing microscope as thermotropic liquid crystalline state. X-ray diffraction pattern revealed that N,N-dilauroyl, O-lauroyl chitosan oligomer was highly crystalline, whereas chitosan oligomer was not.
