Tyrosinase (monophenol. 3.4-${\beta}$-dihydroxyphenylalanin oxygen oxidoreductase. EC 1.14.18.1 J. which plays a pivotal role in melanogenesis. It is single chain glycoprotein catalyzing the hydroxylation of tyrosine to ${\beta$\mid$$-3.4-dihydroxyphenylalanin (DOPA) and the oxidation of DOPA to DOPA quinone. To investigate whitening effect of chitosan oligosaccharide. we obtained chitosan oligosaccharide [(glucosamine)2-6] by NaNO2 oxidation and measured the effect of chitosan oligosaccharide on tyrosinase activity. Chitosan oligosaccharide dose-dependently inhibited tyrosinase (2 unit) activity and inhibited by 18.8% at dose of 100${\mu}$g/ml. Vitamin C. arbutin and kojic acid that are well known to be inhibitor of melanin production dose-dependently inhibited tyrosinase (2unit) activity. These results suggest that chitosan oligosaccharide may be used as inhibitor of melanin production in melanocyte. which will be further studied.
Long chain fatty acids (LCFAs) are transported into cells via plasma transporters, are activated to fatty acyl-CoA by fatty acyl-CoA synthase (ACS), and enter mitochondria via the carnitine system (CPT1/CACT/CPT2). The mitochondrial carnitine system plays an obligatory role in β-oxidation of LCFAs by catalyzing their transport into the mitochondrial matrix. Fatty acyl-CoAs are oxidized via the β-oxidation pathway, which results in the production of acetyl-CoA. The acetyl-CoA can be imported into the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle for oxidation in the mitochondrial matrix or can be used for malonyl-CoA synthesis by acetyl-CoA carboxylase 2 (ACC2) in the cytoplasm. In skeletal muscle, ACC2 catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to form malonyl-CoA, which is a potent endogenous inhibitor of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1). Thus, ACC2 indirectly inhibits the influx of fatty acids into the mitochondria. Fatty acid metabolism can also be regulated by malonyl-CoA-mediated inhibition of CPT1.
In this work, thermal decomposition mechanism based on kinetic parameters and thermal stability of carbon fiber-reinforced carbon matrix composites (C/C composites), have been studied under high temperature oxidative conditions with addition of tetra-ethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as an oxidation inhibitor. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was executed to evaluate the thermal decomposition mechanism and thermal stability of C/C composites in the temperature range of 30 ~ $850^{\circ}C$. As a result, the kinetic parameters of the composites impregnated with TEOS, i.e., activation energy for thermal decomposition ($E_d$), order of reaction (n) , and pre-exponential factor (A) were evaluated as 136 kJ/mol, 0, and 2.3$\times$$10^9s^{-1}$, respectively. Especially, the IPDT and $E_d$ of C/C composites impregnated with TEOS were improved largely compared with the composites impregnated without TEOS, due to the formation of $SiO_2$ on composite surfaces, resulting in interrupting the oxygen attack to carbon active site in the composites.
Rosmarinic acid and its methyl ester, isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of the methanolic extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Labiatae), were found to inhibit the oxidation of L-tyrosine catalyzed by mushroom tyrosinase with the $IC_{50}$ values of 16.8 and $21.5\;{\mu}M$, respectively. It was comparable with kojic acid, a well-known tyrosinase inhibitor, with an $IC_{50}$ of $22.4\;{\mu}M$. The inhibitory kinetics analyzed by the Lineweaver-Burk plots, were found rosmarinic acid and its methyl ester to be competitive inhibitors with $K_i\;of\;2.4{\times}10^{-5}\;and\;1.5{\times}10^{-5}\;M$, respectively.
Effect of isoliquiritigenin isolated from the heartwood of Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen (Leguminosae) on mushroom tyrosinase activity was investigated in vitro using L-tyrosine and L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) as the substrates. When L-tyrosine was used as a substrate, both isoliquiritigenin and kojic acid, a positive control, inhibited tyrosinase activity in a concentration-dependent manner. IC$_{50}$ values of isoliquiritigenin and kojic acid were 61.4 and 52.2 ${\muM}$, respectively. However, isoliquiritigenin showed week inhibitory effect on the oxidation of L-DOPA by tyrosinase with inhibition ratio of 9.1 ${\pm}$ 7.1% at 100 ${\muM}$. It is also suggested that 3-unsubstituted and 4-hydroxyl phenyl group in isoliquiritigenin plays an important role on the inhibition of tyrosinase activity when L-tyrosine was used as a substrate. Analysis of Lineweaver-Burk plot showed that isoliquiritigenin acts as a competitive inhibitor in case of L-tyrosine as a substrate.

A study on the corrosion inhibition of metals is important in many industrial applications (carbon steel, copper, aluminum, SUS 304, nickel). In this study, we investigated the C-V diagrams related to the surface corrosion of metals. It was observed through the SEM that the surface corrosion state of the various metals had the corrosion potential by the scan rate and the organic inhibitor containing an amine group. We determined to measure cyclic voltammetry using the three-electrode system. The measurement of oxidation and reduction ranged from -1350mV to 1650mV. The scan rate was 50, 100, 150, and 200mV/s. It turned out that the C-V characterization of SUS 304 was irreversible process caused by the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram. After adding organic inhibitors, the adsorption film was constituted, and the passive phenomena happened. As a result, it was revealed that the inhibition effect of metal corrosion depends on the molecular interaction, and the interaction has influence on the adsorption complex.
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is found in most cell types and catalyzes the oxidation of monoamines. Three anithiactins (A-C, modified 2-phenylthiazoles) isolated from Streptomyces sp. were tested for inhibitory activity of two isoforms, MAO-A and MAO-B. Anithiactin A was effective and selective for the inhibition of MAO-A, with an IC50 value of 13.0 μM; however, it was not effective for the inhibition of MAO-B. Anithiactins B and C were weaker inhibitors for MAO-A and MAO-B. Anithiactin A was a reversible and competitive inhibitor for MAO-A with a Ki value of 1.84 μM. The hydrophobic methyl substituent in anithiactin A may play an important role in the inhibition of MAO-A. It is suggested that anithiactin A is a selective reversible inhibitor for MAO-A, with moderate potency, and can be considered a new potential lead compound for further development of novel reversible inhibitors for MAO-A.

A Helicobacter pylori urease inhibitor from Rubus coreanus Miquel has been isolated and partially characterized for aiming to Prevent H. pylori growth and decrease harmful accumulation of ammonia in human gastric mucosa. We screened urease inhibitory activities in 519 extracts library prepared by solvent extraction from 173 kinds of edible plants, medicinal herbs, herbs and seaweeds using a colorimetric urease assay system. As results of primary and secondary screening, 70% acetone extract of Rubus coreanus Miquel was selected as potent candidate, showing about 24% inhibitory activity. The acetone extract was sequentially partitioned into RCE/RCWI and RCB/RCW2 layers with ethyl acetate and butanol. The major active component in RCW2, water layer from butanol fractionation was revealed to be peptidic or proteinous substance by inhibitory activity determination after pronase digestion and periodate oxidation. RCW2-IIIc a was isolated by sequential column chromatography on DEAE-Toyopearl 650C, Butrl-Toyopearl 650M and Sephadex LH-20. The isolated urease inhibitor RCW2-IIIc $\alpha$, was highly pure proteinous substance with molecular weight of 13kDa by high-performance gel permeation liquid chromatography. RCW2-IIIc$\alpha$ has about 5 times higher inhibitory activity than 70% acetone extract, showing high stability against heat treatment and peptic digestion.
As wrought stainless steel, sintered stainless steel (STS) has excellent high-temperature anti-corrosion even at high temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ and exhibit corrosion resistance in air. The oxidation behavior and oxidation mechanism of the sintered 316L stainless was reported at the high temperature in our previous study. In this study, the effects of additives on high-temperature corrosion resistances were investigated above $800^{\circ}C$ at the various oxides ($SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $Y_2O_3$) added STS respectively as an oxidation inhibitor. The morphology of the oxide layers were observed by SEM and the oxides phase and composition were confirmed by XRD and EDX. As a result, the weight of STS 316L sintered body increased sharply at $1000^{\circ}C$ and the relative density of specimen decreased as metallic oxide addition increased. Compared with STS 316L sintered parts, weight change ratio corresponding to different oxidation time at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, decreased gradually with the addition of metallic oxide. The best corrosion resistance properties of STS could be improved in case of using $Y_2O_3$. The oxidation rate was diminished dramatically by suppression the peeling on oxide layers at $Y_2O_3$ added sintered stainless steel.
Acetylcarnitine, a metabilite of carnitine, has been porven to be a potent inhibitor of ethanol oxidation in hepatocytes. It inhibits the activity of alcohol dehydrognase (ADH), but not the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system. which was significatly inhibited by acetylcarnitine at NAD ; acetylcarnitine $\leq$1. the main objectives of his study were to ascertain the interaction between acetylcarnitine and NAD on ADH activity and to elucidate whether different species have different effects. Tehpost-mocrosomal supernatant (PMS) was prepared from normal rat, guinea pig, mouse and broilers by differential centrifugation . Horse and yeast ADH were purchased from the Sigma Chemical Co. Prepared and purchased ADH are used for determination of ADH activity in the presence or absence of carnitine and acetylcar- nitine. Binding studies showed that acetylcarnitine did bind to ADH in a dose realted manner when low NAD ; acetylcar- nitine ratio was provided. It was found that the inhibitionof ADH activity occurred only when NAD concentration was less than the inhibitor concentration . Crystalline and crude ADH preparation from different vertebrate species wer inhibited by acetylcarnitine, whereas the yeast ADH was not affected by acetylcarnitine.
