The contents of organic acids in traditional and modified fermented foods were compared, and propionic acid produced during fermentation was investigated. Organic acids in traditional and modified soy sauces were lactic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, formic acid, succinic acid and oxalic acid while propionic acid was found in traditional soy sauces only. Similarly, lactic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, oxalic acid, formic acid, succinic acid and propionic acid were found in traditional and modified soy paste. The organic acids in traditional and modified kochujang were citric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, oxalic acid and succinic acid while propionic acid was not found in modified kochujang. The major organic acid in persimmon and commercial (fermented) vinegars was acetic acid. Propionic acid was uniquely found in persimmon vinegars. Also, content of tannic acid in persimmon vinegars was 366.9 ∼ 909.8 mg%.

In this study, different amount of (fe(0)) were dissolve into different strength of phosphoric ($H_3PO_4$) acid and the optimum solubility was observed at 0.89M Fe(0) into 4M of $H_3PO_4$ acid. Different concentration of oxalic acid was added to determine the optimum precipitated condition. The dissolution kinetics of Fe(0) into $H_3PO_4$ acid was investigated at $40-50^{\circ}C$. The optimum Fe-oxalate precipitate was dried and thermal decomposition using DSC-TG was conducted. Approximately 52 wt(%) of oxalic acid was removed at $300^{\circ}C$. Iron oxides such as magnetite and hematite that may be formed on the surface of nuclear waste were also dissolved into the $H_3PO_4$ acid and the optimum solubility for magnetite is 0.005M while that for hematite is 0.02M in 8M $H_3PO_4$ acid, respectively.
A wet oxidation method of oxalic acid standard used in radiocarbon dating is described, and error due to possible carbon isotope fractionation during the oxidation is estimated.
White rot or stem rot caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is one of the most destructive fungal diseases that have become a serious threat to the successful cultivation of oilseed Brassicas. The study was designed with an aim to investigate the association between the pathogenic aggressiveness and pathogenicity determinants of this pathogen specifically in Brassica for the first time. For this, a total of 58 isolates of S. sclerotiorum from different geographical regions were collected and purified. These isolates were inoculated on a Brassica juncea cv. RL-1359 and they exhibited high level of variation in their disease progression. The isolates were grouped and then 24 isolates were selected for the biochemical analysis of pathogenicity determinants. The isolates varied significantly with respect to their total organic acids, oxalic acid production and pectin methyl esterase and polygalacturonase activity. The oxalic acid production corresponded to the disease progression of the isolates; the isolates with higher oxalic acid production were the more aggressive ones and vice-versa. This is, in our knowledge, the first study to establish a correlation between oxalic acid production and pathogenic aggressiveness of S. sclerotiorum on B. juncea. However, the pectinases' enzyme activity did not follow the trend as of disease progression. These suggest an indispensable role of oxalic acid in pathogenicity of the fungus and the potential to be used as biochemical marker for preliminary assessment of pathogenic aggressiveness of various isolates before incorporating them in a breeding program.
Dried lavers, Porphyra yezoensis Ueda, were stored at $20^{\circ}C$ for 10, 25 and 45 days under a dry and humid conditions respectively, and changes in the contents of organic acids were studied by GLC and supplementary use of GC-MS. 1) Out of eight acids determined, i. e., pyruvic, lactic, oxalic, malonic, fumaric, succinic, malic, and citric acid, relatively abundant ones were oxalic, succinic, malic, and citric acid. 2) Oxalic, malic, and succinic acid did not show any notable changes in their contents under a dry condition, however, under a humid condition the contents of the former tow acids decreased rapidly showing contrast to that of succinic acid, of which content increased markedly. The content of citric acid rapidly· decreased independent of the storage conditions. 3) Among some unidentified components, two of them were presumed to be aromatic acids from their mass spectra. The contents of the two acids decreased slowly under a dry condition, however, rapidly decreased under a humid condition and after 45 days storage almost all of them disappeared. 4) The contents of total volatile acids were increased under the both storage conditions, however, the rate of increment was larger under a humid than under a dry condition.
This study was carried out to get the information of Plum tree (192 germplasm) collected in Korea, and to evaluate the organic acid contents and fermentation solution. The organic acid content of fruit was 50.9 ± 6.0 mg/g, and which was composed of 55.5% of citric acid, 43.4% of malic acid and 1.1% of oxalic acid, and showed large difference among germplasms. Oxalic acid and malic acid made no differences in organic acid content according to flesh color, whereas citric acid and total organic acid contents were highest in orange color and lowest in whitish green. Malic acid, citric acid and total organic acid contents did not show differences among fruit weight groups, but oxalic acid content was highest at fruit weight of 5.1 ~ 10.0 g and lowest at more than 20.1 g. The sugar content of fermentation solution of fruit was 55.7 ± 1.6 °Brix and the harvest rate was 116.7 ± 8.7%. The correlation coefficients among fruit weight, the sugar content (°Brix) and harvest rate of fermentation solution were very low, and there were correlations of r=-0.551⁎⁎ between fruit weight and oxalic acid, r=-0.767⁎⁎ between malic acid and citric acid, and r=0.834⁎⁎ between citric acid and total organic acid content.

In CLO2 delignification and bleaching process, formation of chlorate corresponds to a loss of 20-36% of the original CKO2 charge. Because chlorate is inactive and harmful to environmental, it will be of benefit to find methods that can reduce the formation of chlorate during chlorine dioxide bleaching. Chlorate is mainly formed by the reaction HCIO +ClO2 $\longrightarrow$H+ + Cl_ +ClO3-2 On the other hand, AOX in chlorine dioxide bleacing is formed also due to the in-situ produced hypochlorous acid. THus both AOX and chlorate could be reduced by addition of hypochlorous acid. Some paper son the reduction of AOX by additives appeared , but systematic data on chlorate reduction as well as pulp and effluent properties are not available. THus this paper of focused on the effects on the reduction of chlorate and chlorine dioxide bleachability. The additives, fulfamic a챵, AMSO, hydrogen peroxide, oxalic acid were found to eliminate chlorine selectively in chlorine and chlorine dioxide mixture. However, when they were added to bleaching process, sulfamic acid and DMSO showed significant reduction of chlorate formation but hydrogen peroxide and oxalic aicd did not, and significant amount ofhydrogen peroxide was found resided in the bleaching effluent , In addition, sulfamic acid and DMSO decreased the bleaching end ph values while hydrogen peroxide and oxalic acid did not, which also indicated that hydrogen peroxide and oxalic acid were ineffective. The difference might be ascribed to the competitives of hypochlorous acid with lignin, chlorite (CKO2) and additives. Sulfamic acid and DMSO showed better pulpbrightness development but less alkaline extraction efficiency than hydrogen peroxide , oxalic acid and control, which means that insitu hypochlorous acid contributes to the formation of new chromophore structures that can be easily eliminated by alkaline extraction. DMSO decreased the delignification ability of chlorine dioxide due to the elimination of hypochlorous acid, but sfulfamic acid did to because the chlroinated sulfamic acid had stable bleachability. In addition, sulfamic acid, and SMSO shwed decreased color and COD of bleaching effluents, hydrogen peroxide decreased effluent color but not COD content, and oxalic acid had no statistically significant effects. No significant decreases of pulp viocosity were found except for hydrogen peroxide. Based on our results , we suggest that the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide on the reduction of AOX in literature might be explained by other mechanisms not due to the elimination of hypochlorous acid , but to the direct decomposition of AOX by hydrogen peroxide.

The removal efficiency of several washing agents on the $Cs^+$ ion was investigated. Leaching of $Cs^+$ ion from the soil surface by washing agents is affected by the exchange capability of the washing solution. Reuse tests of the effective soil washing agents such as $BaCl_2$, NaOH, citric acid+ $HNO_3$ and oxalic acid were performed. NaOH, citric acid + $HNO_3$ and oxalic acid solutions can be reused after passing through the ion exchange column. Among the tested solutions, both of citric acid+ $HNO_3$ and oxalic acid were effective for the decontamination of TRIGA research reactor soil. The radioactivity of soils can be reduced to a release level by the successive application.

To remove metal stains of the ceramics, chemical cleaning is essential case by case. This study investigated the removal characteristics of iron stains by oxalic acid and citric acid including their application methods of soaking and poultice. The soaking method in cleaning agents showed removal process by color difference and released iron contents from iron stains on ceramics. Iron stains were removed successfully from ceramics, which soaked in oxalic acid for 60 hours. However, it is recommendable to soak in 0.25M oxalic acid for one to three hours because most iron stains were disappeared in 3 hours soaking. Citric acid is less effective than oxalic acid in removing iron stains because of heavy molecular weight and low acidity. Poultices (bentonite, sepiolite, activated carbon fiber and celite) with oxalic acid were applied on contaminated ceramics. After ten hours, iron stains on ceramics were removed successfully by poultice. Among them, bentonite and sepiolite have better application. Therefore, sepiolite with 0.25M oxalic acid was applied on the iron stains of whiteware and celadon from Ma Island, and then stains were removed. However, it is judged that the application methods can be varied according to the form and depth of contaminant. In addition, the residues of poultice on the ceramics will be considered for preventing contamination.
A process development for direct synthesis of high pure ZnO powders from zinc-bearing waste was investigated. This waste contains a 55% of zinc and it was extracted by the sulfuric acid(leaching). After removal of iron ion by precipitation from the zinc solution, the purification through a solvent extraction by the use of D2EHPA as an extractant was carried out. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simultaneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simulataneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. The synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders by the precipitation stripping method was calcined to obtain more than 99.9% of ZnO powders. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, leaching time, pulp density on the extraction of zinc was studied and the optimum conditions for the solvent extraction were obtained through the investigation of purification of zinc solution. The size, morphology and size distribution of synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders were studied in terms of oxalic acid concentration, temperature, surfactant added, precipitation time, etc.
