The Effect of U.S. Protectionist Trade Policy on Foreign Ownership: A Study of Korea's Data Set

  • Purpose - This study analyzed the effect of the Trump Government's protectionist trade policies on foreign ownership. Specifically, this study empirically analyzes the hypothesis that foreign ownership will decrease after the Trump Government rather than before the Trump Government. Design/methodology - The hypothesis of this study is based on the expectation that US protection trade policy will negatively affect the profitability of Korean companies. The dependent variable in this study is the foreign ownership ratio, and the independent variable is a dummy variable representing before and after the Trump Government. Multiple regression analysis was performed, including the control variables suggested in previous studies related to foreign ownership. Findings - As a result, foreign ownership increased after the Trump Government rather than before the Trump Government. This study further analyzes whether the main variables affecting foreign investor's decision-making are differences before and after Trump Government. The export ratio, profitability and dividends did not differ before and after Trump Government. However, the level of information asymmetry decreased after the Trump Government than before the Trump Government. This suggests that US protection trade policies do not adversely affect the profitability of Korean companies. However, Korean firms are improving their information environment because US protectionist trade policies can lower profitability and negatively impact capital raising. In this regard, the foreign ownership ratio seems to differ before and after the Trump Government. Originality/value - This study contributes in that it presents data that US protectionist policies can affect Korean corporate governance. This study has implications from the short-term analysis of US protection trade policy.

The Effect of Board Composition and Ownership Structure on Firm Value: Evidence from Jordan

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of the composition of the board and ownership structure on a firm's value in Jordanian firms. Specifically, it aims to determine the effect of board size, (CEO) duality, and family, foreign, institutional, and government ownership on a firm's value. An ordinary least square regression (OLS) was employed to examine the study hypotheses in a sample of 35 Jordanian industrial firms (175 firm-year observation) for a period of five years from 2016-2020. As measured by Tobin's Q (Q ratio) and market-to-book (MB ratio) for Jordanian industrial firms listed on Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). The result found that foreign ownership, institutional ownership, and family ownership have a significant and positive effect on firm value. By contrast, government ownership does not have a significant effect on firm value. With respect to board composition (CEO duality and board size), the study results found no evidence to support the effect of board composition on firm value. The study recommended the concerned authorities with several recommendations, most notably: taking the necessary measures to ensure the continuity and growth of family businesses because of their positive impact on the value of the company and economic growth, spreading awareness about how governance protects the interests of investors.

절차공정성과 직무중요성이 조직구성원의 직무만족에 미치는 영향에 대한 일가치감과 심리적 주인의식의 매개효과 검증: 간호사를 대상으로 (The Mediating Effects of Perceived Value of Work and Psychological Ownership for Effects of Procedural Justice and Job Significance on the Employees' Job Satisfaction: Focused on Hospital Nurses)

  • The purpose of this study includes: Firstly, to examine the effects of procedural justice and job significance on value of work, psychological ownership, and job satisfaction. Secondly, to examine the mediating effect of the value of work, psychological ownership on the relationship between procedural justice, job significance and job satisfaction. For the study, the data was collected from convenient sample of 273 nurses at university hospital in a city to test theoretical model and its hypotheses. All data collected from the survey were analyzed using with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. This study reports findings as followed: first, the relationship between the procedural justice and the value of work is positively related. Second, there was also a positive correlation between the procedural justice and the psychological ownership. Third, there was also a positive correlation between the job significance and the value of work. Fourth, the relationship between the job significance and the psychological ownership is positively related. Fifth, there was also a positive correlation between the value of work and the psychological ownership. Sixth, there was also a positive correlation between the procedural justice and the job satisfaction. Seventh, the relationship between the job significance and the job satisfaction is positively related. Eighth, there was also a positive correlation between the value of work and the job satisfaction. Ninth, there was also a positive correlation between the psychological ownership and the job satisfaction. Finally, the value of work and psychological ownership played as a partial mediator on the relationship between procedural justice and job satisfaction. Also, the value of work and psychological ownership played as a partial mediator on the relationship between job significance and job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the limitations of the study and some directions for future studies were presented.

모멘텀과 투자자 지분율: 대만 주식시장 (Momentum and Ownership: The Evidence of Taiwan Stock Market)

  • 본 연구는 대만증권거래소에 상장된 종목을 대상으로 하여 모멘텀 현상이 어떠한 경우에 나타나는지를 분석한다. 특히, 기업 규모, 외국인 투자자 지분율, 개인 투자자 지분율, 기관 투자자 지분율에 따른 모멘텀 현상의 차이에 대해 살펴보는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 대만 주식시장에서 모멘텀 현상을 실증 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전체 표본 기간 동안 모멘텀 현상이 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 기업 규모별로 나누어도 모멘텀 전략의 수익성이 존재하지 않는 것으로 드러났다. 그러나 지분율에 따라 세부적으로 나누면 결과는 달라진다. 셋째, 개인 투자자 지분율이 높은 기업에는 유의적인 양(+)의 모멘텀이 존재하는 것으로 드러났다. 따라서 기관 투자자 지분율이 낮은 기업에서는 양(+)의 모멘텀을 관찰할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 외국인 지분율에 따라 나눌 경우 모멘텀 현상이 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구는 기존 연구들과 달리 대만 주식시장에서 외국인 투자자의 지분율뿐만 아니라 개인 투자자 및 기관 투자자 지분율과 모멘텀 현상 간의 관계에 대해 추가적인 실증분석을 실행하였다는 점에 있어서 학술적 공헌을 가진다.

중국의 상장기업에서 소유구조가 기업의 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Impacts of Ownership Structure on Performance of Listed Firms in China)

  • 이 논문은 1994년부터 2002년까지의 중국 상장기업의 데이터를 이용, 기업의 소유구조가 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 분석한 것이다. 특히 이 논문은 중국의 상장기업에 관한 새로운 주식 분류체계를 이용하여 기업 지배주주의 유형, 지배주주의 지분, 소주주들의 지분이 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 관련 가설을 검증하였다. 이 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 주주로서 국가의 존재가 이윤보다는 고용을 유지하는 등 정책적 목표를 우선적으로 추구하거나 혹은 당과 정부의 개입을 초래함으로써 정치비용을 발생시켜 기업성과에 부정적인 영향을 끼칠 것이라는 주장은 적어도 정부지배 기업에게는 적용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 아울러, 지배주주의 지분이 클수록 지배주주가 경영자에 대한 감시를 강화할 유인이 커지거나 혹은 지배주주가 소주주를 착취(expropriate)할 유인이 줄어 드는 것으로 인해 기업성과에 양의 영향을 미치게 된다는 주장은 민간기업 및 부분적으로는 시장화 국유기업에는 적용될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 소주주들은 경영자 감시에 적극적으로 나섬으로써 기업성과에 양의 영향을 미친다는 주장은 시장화 국유기업과 부분적으로는 민간 기업에는 적용될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

아파트 분양권의 전매기간에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Elapsed Time to Resale of Pre-Completion Apartment Ownership)

  • 우리나라는 아파트시장의 선분양제도로 인하여 오래 전부터 분양권 전매시장이 형성되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 전매시장의 참여자들의 행태를 분석하기 위해 분양이후 전매까지의 소요시간을 분석하였다. 구체적으로 본 연구에서는 2000년부터 2016년까지 전국에 분양된 192개 아파트단지의 48,316개의 아파트의 전매자료를 Cox비례위험모형을 사용하여 부동산정책특성, 분양계약특성, 입지특성, 단지특성, 주호특성, 시기 및 지역특성 등이 전매기간에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 부동산정책특성과 관련하여 투기과열지구로 지정된 경우 주어진 기간에서 전매확률이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 분양계약특성과 관련해서는 중도금이자후불제와 중도금무이자형태의 분양계약인 경우 전매확률을 유의적으로 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 아파트의 입지특성과 관련해서는 접도수가 많거나 인근에 초등학교와 공원이 있어서 입지조건이 우수한 아파트의 경우 전매확률이 유의적으로 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 단지특성과 관련해서는 아파트 단지가 택지개발지구에 위치하는 경우 전매확률은 낮아지는 반면에 대지면적 대비 부대시설면적의 비율이 높을수록 전매확률은 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 주호특성과 관련해서 전용면적이 적을수록, 주호가 고층에 위치할수록 전매확률이 높아지는 것으로 분석되었다.

일부 종합병원 종사자의 심리적 주인의식이 직무태도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Psychological Ownership on the Job Attitude of Employees in General Hospitals)

  • Objectives : This study investigated the effects of psychological ownership on job attitude markers (job satisfaction and affective commitment) of employees in general hospitals. Methods : Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire completed by employees in two hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do province, from May 21 to 26, 2014. Job attitude markers were measured by job satisfaction and affective commitment. We analyzed 300 cases using SPSS 21.0. Results : Psychological ownership of hospital employees had a significant effect on the job satisfaction and affective commitment. Psychological ownership explained a total of 20.5% and 9.9% of the variance in job satisfaction and affective commitment while controlling for gender, age, marital status, work position and work experience. Conclusions : Psychological ownership of hospital employees is a useful factor and key to recruiting and conducting training program for them, thus enhancing job attitudes.

GRI 보고서 상의 환경정보 공시수준과 소유구조와의 관계 (Study on the Relationship between Ownership Structure and Environmental Information Disclosure in GRI Reports)

  • Few prior studies investigated the correlation between corporate ownership structure and environmental information disclosure. Using environmental index disclosure in GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) reports of the Korean companies, the study examines the effects of ownership structure on the magnitude of environmental information disclosure. A total of 220 firm-years during 2013-2016 period are analyzed. The empirical results of the study indicate that the institutional and foreign investors' ownership have positive correlations with environmental information disclosure, while the executives' within board of directors has a negative correlation. The ownership by largest shareholders including those with special interests shows no significant relationship with the environmental information disclosure.

기업의 소유권구조가 배당에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Corporate Ownership Strucrure on Dividend)

  • Firms pay cash dividends to reduce the agency costs, and then insider stock ownership affects the dicision of dividend payout ratio. In this study, it is tested that firm's insider stock ownership affects the decision of dividend payout ratio, but the relation between dividend payout ratio and insider stock ownership is nonmonostic. The empirical evidence shows that at low levels of insider stock ownership, increase in the percentage of stock held by insiders decreases dividend payout ratio, but beyond the point of entrenchment increase in the percentage of stock held by insiders increases dividend payout ratio. Thus, the dividend payout ratio and the percentage of stock held by insiders are in a parabolic relation. This implies that there may be a optimal insider stock ownership In lead to the minimun dividend payout ratio.

Cointegrated Relations between Foreign Ownership and Business Conditions in the Level of Korean Capital Market

  • This paper examines the results of survey that the foreign ownership is cointegrated with capital market conditions in Korea using Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and how the mechanism of innovations and dynamics among the foreign ownership and capital market proxies in the VECM was described. Specifically, we find that the foreign ownership and capital market proxies follow I (1) process and there are cointegrated relations between the foreign ownership and capital market proxies. Adopting the impulse response function and variance decomposition in the VECM, we suggest, in turn, the default risk premia, liquidity of market and the rate of interest in long term business cycle take on a special function on the KSE and KOSDAQ. Finally, we also offer evidences of which there are differences of the mechanism of dynamics and innovations between on the KSE and on the KOSDAQ.
