  • When voice is transmitted through packet switching network, there needs a overload control, that is, a control for the congestion which lasts short periods and occurrs in local extents. In this thesis, we analyzed the performance of the statistical packet voice multiplexer using the overload control strategy by bit dropping. We assume that the voice is coded accordng to (4,2) embedded ADPCM and that the voice packet is generated and transmitted according to the procedures in the CCITT recomendation G. 764. For the performance analysis, we must model the superposed packet arrival process to the multiplexer as exactly as possible. It is well known that interarrival times of the packets are highly correlated and for this reason MMPP is more suited for the modelling in the viewpoint of accuracy. Hence the packet arrival process in modeled as MMPP and the matrix geometric method is used for the performance analysis. Performance analysis is similar to the MMPP IG II queueing system. But the overload control makes the service time distribution G dependent on system status or queue length in the multiplexer. Through the performance analysis we derived the probability generating function for the queue length and using this we derived the mean and standard deviation of the queue length and waiting time. The numerical results are verified through the simulation and the results show that the values embedded in the departure times and that in the arbitrary times are almost the same. Results also show bit dropping reduces the mean and the variation of the queue length and those of the waiting time.

  • This paper proposes the measurement scheme for network overload and the control technique in case of breaking several control channels when we support the call services of DAMA through communication satellite(GEO, Geostationary Earth Orbit). And its performance is analyzed. The proposed schemes measure the overload of access control channel of a network controller to control the call connections, detect the level of network overload, notify the terminals of DAMA network of the state, and excute overload control. As a result, it improves the system performance and the network stability at overload state. Moreover hysteresis is applied to the change of overload state for the restriction of the frequent state shifts. The results show that the proposed algorithm prevents excessive increment of call-setup delay and too much lowering of call success rate, and improves the network stability.

  • Background: The public now imposes higher demands on the government than in the past, which has created the role overload faced by low-ranking government employees in China. This research investigates the relationship between role overload and health among low-ranking government employees and explores the mediating effects of burnout. Methods: It draws on a survey of 2064 low-ranking government employees by probability proportionate to size sampling in China's Shandong Province. Structural equation modeling (SEM) methods are used to analyze the data. Results: Both role overload and burnout were found to have negative effects on low-ranking government employees' health; however, the associations varied among the three age groups (less than 36, between 36 and 45, and over 45). Those over 45 reported the highest level of both physical and psychological health, while the youngest age group (less than 36) reported the lowest level of health. Role overload has a direct influence on health among government employees over 45 but not among those below 45. Burnout's mediating effects between role overload and health are significant among all age groups, but most significant among the youngest civil servants below 36. Conclusions: The findings evidenced that both role overload and burnout affect low-ranking government employees' self-reported physical and psychological health. In addition, the effect of age differences in coping with role stressors and burnout should be considered.

  • In the present competitive organizational environment more organizations are implementing knowledge management initiatives to gain strategic advantage. One such initiative is that of implementing electronic knowledge repositories (EKR) which often leads to a rapid increase in the quantity of information employees have to process daily; raising concerns of employees being overloaded. This is especially true for current EKRs using distributive technology, enabling customizable individual workspaces which can result in loose knowledge structures. This paper identifies a new type of information overload (IO), extending the concept as occurring in both knowledge seekers and contributors and uses cognitive dissonance theory to provide evidence that IO can change employees' perception of EKR usage. This research paper provides the first empirical evidence that overload has no sufficient affect on EKR continuance intention directly, but has significant negative affect on the two main success measures; perceived usefulness and satisfaction of the system.

  • 6063-T5 alloys are tested in laboratory air, water and 3% NaCl solution to investigate the effects of corrosive environment on the retardation behavior through single overload fatigue test. Also, the fatigue crack propagation and the crack closure behavior are studied. The results obtained in this experimental study are summarized as follows. 1) Behaviors of fatigue crack growth retardation are observed in water and 3% NaCl solution as they do in air. The number of delay cycles and the size of affected region by single overload decrease greatly in water and 3% NaCl compared with those in air. 2) In fractographic results, the overload marking by single overload appear remarkably in air, but indistinctly in water and 3% NaCl solution. 3) The effect of crack closure on crack propagation is most remarkable in the beginning of crack propagation. With crack propagation, the crack closure level and its effect decrease greatly.

  • In this paper, an experiment result on overload of distribution transformer was arranged by top oil temperature depending on capacity and time. This result shows the definition on overload of transformer is different by some factors such as ambient temperature and immediate load. In other words, increased temperature in range of regulation(50K) has time to spare even if the condition of transformer is overload. The algorithm presented in this paper is based on the international standard (IEEE std C57.91), and the safety of switchboard is diagnosed by this aspect mentioned on overload of transformer.

  • This paper proposes a new methodology for adequacy evaluation of composite power system considering an ambiguity of overload of transmission lines. Nodal arrival powers under considering an ambiguity of overload of transmission lines can be evaluated using the proposed method. Fuzzy set theory has been used in order to consider the permission level of overload of transmission lines. The problem of adequacy evaluation has been formulated using fuzzy linear programing. The effectiveness of the proposed method considering permissible overload of transmission lines has been demonstrated on the IEEE RTS.

  • After stage-two surgery, the highest incidence of failure has been attributed to implant overload. However, the biomechanical factors cited inthe literature that contribute to implant overload, such as bone type, cuspal inclination, horizontal offset, maxillary compared to mandibular arch, the inclusion of natural teeth within the prosthesis, and occlusal harmony are superimposed on physiologic variations. Following two cases, including reduction of cuspal inclination and usage of modified incisal pin, showed a method of contouring occlusal surface for reduction of unpreditable implant overload.

  • In order to clarify the effect of overload on crack growth behaviors, fatigue tests for overload were carried out for round plain specimens of SM45C steel. In the experiment, typical semi-elliptical crack shape was found and further crack growth behaviors were tested. Using three types of single overload fatigue tests, Crack growth retardation phenomenon were examined. The growth rate of surface crack(da/dN) during retardation period was analyzed in terms of ${\Delta}K$ and ${\Delta}K_{eff}$. On the growth rate of surface crack analyzed by ${\Delta}K$, the dependence of overload stress levels appears. However, on the growth rate by ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ obtained by Willenborg analysis, there is a non-liner relationship between da/dN and ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ with narrow scatter band.

  • Most of scheduling methods in the Grid only consider one special attribute of the resource or one aspect of QoS (Quality of Service) of the job. In this paper, we focus on the problem that how to consider two aspects simultaneously. Based on the requirements of the jobs and the attributes of the resources, jobs are categorized into three kinds: CPU-overload, memory-overload, and bandwidth-overload jobs. One job may belong to different kinds according to different attributes. We schedule the jobs in different categories in different orders, and then propose a scheduling method-MTS (multiple attributes scheduling method) to schedule Grid resources. Based on the comparisons between our method, Min-min, ASJS (Adaptive Scoring Job Scheduling), and MRS (Multi-dimensional Scheduling) show: (1) MTS reduces the execution time more than 15% to other methods, (2) MTS improves the number of the finished jobs before the deadlines of the jobs, and (3) MTS enhances the file size of transmitted files (input files and output files) and improves the number of the instructions of the finished jobs.
