  • In this paper we propose an image enhancement technique based on histogram specification method over local overlapping regions referred as Local Histogram Specification. First, both reference and original images are splitted into local regions that each overlaps half of its adjacent regions and general histogram specification method is used between corresponding local regions of reference and original image. However it produces noticeable boundary effects. Linear weighted image blending method is used to reduce this effect in order to make seamless image and we also proposed new technique dealing with over-enhanced contrast areas. We satisfied with our experimental results that showed better enhancement accuracy and less noise amplifications compared to other well-known image enhancement methods. We conclude that the proposed method is well suited for motion detection systems as a responsible part to overcome sudden illumination changes.

  • Proposed in the paper is an algorithm to generate tool-path for sculptured surface machining. The proposed algorithm computes tool path by slicing offset triangular mesh, which is the CL-surface (Cutter Location surface). Since the offset triangular mesh includes invalid triangles and self-intersections, it is necessary to remove invalid portions. For the efficient removal of the invalid portions, we extended the sweep line algorithm. The extended sweep line algorithm removes invalid portions very efficiently, and it also considers various degeneracy cases including multiple intersections and overlaps. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested with various examples.

  • A new seamless multiscale simulation was developed for coupling the continuum model with its molecular dynamics. Kriging-based Finite Element Method (K-FEM) is employed to model the continuum base of the entire domain, while the molecular dynamics (MD) is confined in a localized domain of interest. In the coupling zone, where the MD domain overlaps the continuum model, the overall Hamiltonian is postulated by contributions from the continuum and the molecular overlays, based on a quartic spline scaling parameter. The displacement compatibility in this coupling zone is then enforced by the Lagrange multiplier technique. A multiple-time-step velocity Verlet algorithm is adopted for its time integration. The validation of the present method is reported through numerical tests of one dimensional atomic lattice. The results reveal that at the continuum/MD interface, the commonly reported spurious waves in the literature are effectively eliminated in this study. In addition, the smoothness of the transition from MD to the continuum can be significantly improved by either increasing the size of the coupling zone or expanding the nodal domain of influence associated with K-FEM.

  • This paper describes an approach for constucting a Rectilinear Steiner Tree (RST) derivable from a Minimum Spanning Tree (MST), using Associative Processor (AP). We propose a fast parallel algorithm using AP's basic algorithms which can be realized by the processing capability of rudimentary logic and the selective matching capability of Content- Addressable Memory (CAM). The main idea behind the proposed algorithm is to maximize the overlaps between the consecutive edges in MST, thus minimizing the cost of a RST. An efficient parallel linear algorithm with O(n) complexity to construct a RST is proposed using an algorithm to find a MST, where n is the number of nodes. A node insertion method is introduced to allow the Z-type layout. The routing process which only depends on the neighbor edges and the no-rerouting strategy both help to speed up finding a RST.

  • The Yongdong basin developed during Early Cretaceous in the central part of the Korean Peninsula and bounded on the northwest and southeast by northeast trending mega-scale strike-slip Yongdong Fault. An 8 km thick succession of exclusively terrigeneous sediments can be grouped into two mega-sequences. In concert with the migration of depocenter, the upper sequence overlaps the lower and occupies northern part of the basin during basin evolution. Alluvial and lacustrine environments were predominantly formed from early to late stage of the basin formation. Several lines of evidence support that the basin was formed within intra-arc tectonic environments and destroyed by polyphase tectonic force. Schematic evolutionary diagram of the basin is proposed.

  • The past decade has witnessed the abundant use of computer in testing language skills such as listening and reading. Compared with these language skills, we have experienced little use of computer in testing a speaking skill including pronunciation. This is largely due to limitations of the current computer technology. One of such limitations for testing pronunciation is to store and automatically evaluate what the learner utters. Due to this limitation, the computer simply stores what the learner utters and raters evaluate it afterward on a certain rating continuum. With the advent of voice recognition technology, however, the computer has been able to test pronunciation in a systematic way. This technology enables the computer to identify, visually show, and evaluate the learner's intonation pattern by means of autocorrection. The evaluation is expressed in terms of the degree in which the learner's intonation pattern overlaps with that of the native speaker of the target language. In particular, the degree is numerically displayed on the screen, and this numeral is considered as the score of the learner's utterance under our testing framework.

  • Cavernocypris gosuensis n. sp. (Cyprididiae, Cypridopsinae), a new subterranean ostracod species is described with figures of female valves, mouthparts, appendeges and SEM photos from Gosu cave, Danyang-Gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do in Korea. The new stygobiont speices is sixth of the genus Caveroncypris Hartmann, 1964 that characterized by both valeves with a median concave part in ventral view and two groove lines in dorsal view, the reduction of the furca, which is flagellum like in female and the left valve ventrally overlaps the right valve when the carapace is closed and can be distinguished from its congers by left valve with 6 muscle scars in innerpart, mandible palp with one claw and 3 setae on the terminal segment and without seta on the exterodistal border of segment III. The animals were collected within pH 7.31-8.74, temperature ($^{\circ}C$) 13.0-14.6 and dissolved oxygen (mg/l 6.75-14.84 from Aug.2003 to Sep.2004.

  • This study aimed to compare and analyze two respective versions of Jusikbangmun: Nogajae's and National Library of Korea. Types and composition of recipes, archives, classification of names and contents, techniques, tools, and measurement were analyzed. Nogajae's, owned by the Yuwagong family, has established sources while the writer and its publication year are unknown. The other version from the National Library of Korea, on the other hand, has a clear publication year (February, Year Jeongmi) while writer is unclear. In terms of its archive, Nogajae's is twice the size as that of the National Library of Korea, which is the same percentage (85.42%) as that from Nogajae's. However, six types of liquor have been written in its 2 books, respectively, and no overlaps occurred. Considering the Korean alphabet, Nogajae's was published earlier. Nogajae's and the one from the National Library of Korea have 104 kinds of foods (118 times) and 50 kinds of foods (51 times), respectively.

  • Fibro-osseous lesions are composed of connective tissue and varying amount of mineralized substances, which may be bony or cementum-like structures. It is necessary for oral radiologist to differentiate due to the tendency of these fibro-osseous lesions to show similar histopathologic appearances, while the management of each lesion is different. However we often encounter a little difficulty in judgement because there are some overlaps between concept of each lesions. So recently I suggest, we face a need to review basic concept and classification of several fibro-osseous jaw lesions. In this article, several fibre-osseous lesions, such as fibrous dysplasia, cemento-ossifying fibroma and cemento-osseous dysplasia, will be discussed basing on the review of literature. particular emphasis will be made on the nomenclature revision of WHO's classification in 1992.

  • It is well known that the analytical vibration characteristic of a cracked beam depends largely on the crack model. In the forward analysis, an improved and simplified approach in modeling discrete open cracks in beams is presented. The effective length of the crack zone on both sides of a crack with stiffness reduction is formulated in terms of the crack depth. Both free and forced vibrations of cracked beams are studied in this paper and the results from the proposed modified crack model and other existing models are compared. The modified crack model gives very accurate predictions in the modal frequencies and time responses of the beams particularly with overlaps in the effective lengths with reduced stiffness. In the inverse analysis, the response sensitivity with respect to damage parameters (the location and depth of crack, etc.) is derived. And the dynamic response sensitivity is used to update the damage parameters. The identified results from both numerical simulations and experiment work illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
