This study attempts to reveal structures of two-dimensional ring polymer solutions in various polymer concentrations ranging from dilute to concentrated regime. Polymer sizes, single molecule structure factors, bond correlation functions and monomer density distribution functions from center of mass are given in order to clarify the polymer structures. Our study shows that a ring in dilute solution maintain pseudo-circular structure with self-avoiding walk (SAW) statistics, and it seems to be composed of two connecting SAW linear chains. In semidilute solutions, ring polymers are not entangled with each other and adopt collapsed configurations. Such assumption of collapsed structures in the semidilute regime gives an overlap concentration of ${\varphi}^*{\sim}N^{-1/2}$ where N is degree of polymerization. By normalizing the polymer concentration by these overlap concentration, we find universal behaviors of polymer sizes and structure factors regardless of N.

Simulations of solutions of flexible polymer molecules during flow in simple or complex confined geometries are performed. Concentrations from ultradilute up to near the overlap concentration are considered. As concentration increases, the hydrodynamic migration effects observed in dilute solution unidirectional flows (Couette flow, Poiseuille flow) become less prominent, virtually vanishing as the overlap concentration is approached. In a grooved channel geometry, the groove is almost completely depleted of polymer chains at high Weissenberg number in the dilute limit, but at finite concentration this depletion effect is dramatically reduced. Only upon inclusion of hydrodynamic interactions can these phenomena be properly captured.
Rheological properties of chitosan solutions were investigated as a function of polymer concentration. The viscosity curves for chitosan solutions consisted of two distinct viscosity regions, the Newtonian zero-shear viscosity (η$_{0}$) region and the shear rate dependent apparent viscosity (η$_{app}$) region. The shear rate dependence of viscosity was more clearly observed at higher chitosan concentrations. The critical coil overlap parameter (C*〔η〕) was determined to be approximately 3.2 from a plot of zero-shear specific viscosity η$_{sp,0}$ vs coil overlap parameter (C〔η〕), which was lower than C〔η〕4.0 reported for other random coil polysaccharides. It was also found that the slope of η$_{sp,0}$ vs C〔η〕 was 3.9 at concentrated C〔η〕>C*〔η〕domain, while 1.2 at dilute C〔η〕$_{0}$ ${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$$_{0.8}$ relation.ion.n.n.
RF linearity of double-gate MOSFETs is investigated using accurate two-dimensional simulations. The linearity has been analyzed using the Talyor series. Transconductance is dominant nonlinear source of CMOS. It is shown that DGMOSFET linearity can be improved by a careful optimization of channel thickness, gate oxide thickness, gate length, overlap length and channel doping concentration. The minimum $P_{IP3}$ data are compared in each case. It is shown that DG-MOSFET linearity can be improved by a careful optimization of channel thickness, gate oxide thickness, gate length, overlap length and channel doping concentration..

Adsorption behaviors of positively charged matrix (PAH) onto negatively charged probe (sulfate PS particle) were investigated using DLS (dynamic light scattering) and FPR (fluorescence photobleaching recovery) as view points of matrix and salt concentration. The system experienced sharp decrease of diffusion (flocculation) at dilute condition while the system underwent gradual decrease of diffusion above semi-dilute concentration. With FPR and viscometry experiments, we revealed the probe behaviors in polyelectrolyte solution were strongly affected by the coil overlap concentration (0.5 g/L PAH concentration).
Amphotericin B (AmB) is a drug of choice for the treatment of systemic fungal diseases, but its use is considerably limited due to a high incidence of toxicity, particularly nephrotoxicity. It has been demonstrated that the toxicity of AmB is caused by self-aggregated species of the drug and that unaggregated (monomeric) drug is nontoxic but still expresses antifungal activity. Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) is a water-soluble polymer, which may impact the aggregation state of AmB. We have studied the aggregation state of AmB as a function of PEO molecular weight and concentration. At 3,000 and 8,000 g/mole, there was minimal or no change of critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of AmB regardless of the concentration of polymer. By contrast at 20,000 g/mole, the CAC of AmB strikingly increased to 24.3 and $37.5\;{\mu}M$ at 5.0% and 10 % w/v of polymer, respectively. The critical overlap concentration (COC) of PEO 20,000 g/mole was 5.5%. It appears that an interaction between monomeric AmB and polymer coil increases above the COC, competing with self-aggregation of the drug. Accordingly, the degree of aggregation of AmB stayed low and the toxicity became less. There was no such effect at 3,000 and 8,000 g/mole of PEO, owing perhaps to small dimensions in comparison to AmB. Based upon these findings, less toxic AmB formulation may be developed by a pharmaceutical technique such as solid dispersion system containing both AmB and PEO 20,000 g/mole.
This study was conducted to determine the changes of the ecological niche breadth and niche overlap of Quercus acutissima and Quercus variabilis under elevated $CO_2$ concentrations and under elevated temperature conditions. We investigated the growth responses by environmental factor, $CO_2$ concentration, air temperature, light, soil moisture and nutrients. Rising $CO_2$ concentration was treated with 1.6 times than control (ambient) and increased temperature with $2.2^{\circ}C$ above the control (ambient) in the glass greenhouse. Ecological niche breadth and niche overlap was calculated the two oak species (Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis), which were cultivated with light, soil moisture and nutrient gradients at four levels. As a result, the ecological niche breadth of Quercus acutissima was determined to be increased under the warming treatment, but decreased under soil moisture and nutrient environments. The ecological niche breadth of Quercus variabilis was increased under light, soil moisture and nutrients of the warming treatment than control. Ecological niche overlap between Quercus acutissima-Quercus variabilis was increased under light of the warming treatment than control, but decreased under soil moisture and nutrient environments. These results means that two oak species are more severe competition in light environments than soil moisture and nutrient environments. According to analyses of the Cluster and PCA, the two oak species were more sensitive react under light environment than to elevated $CO_2$ concentration or elevated temperature.

The residual gas in an spark-ignition engine is one of important factors on emissions and performance such as combustion stability. With high residual gas fractions, flame speed and maximum combustion temperature are decreased and these are deeply related with combustion stability especially at idle and NOx emission at relatively high engine load. Therefore, there is a need to characterize the residual gas fraction as a function of the engine operating load. Therefore, there is a need to characterize the residual gas fraction as a function of the engine operating parameters. In the present study, the quantitative measurement technique of residual gas fraction was studied by using Fast Response Flame Ionization Detector(FRFID). The measuring technique and model for estimation of residual gas fraction were reported in this paper. By the assuming that the raw signal from FRFID saturates with the same slope for firing and misfiring cycle, in-cylinder hydrocarbon(HC) concentration can be estimated. Residual gas fraction can be obtained from the in-cylinder HC concentration measured at firing and motoring condition. The developed measurement and calibration procedure were applied to the limited engine operating and design condition such as intake manifold pressure and valve overlap. The results show relevant trends by comparing those from previous studies.
We extended the measurable time scale of DNA dynamics to submicrosecond using a long-lifetime metal-ligand complex, $[Ru(phen)_2(dppz)]^{2+}$ (phen=1,10-phenanthroline, dppz=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine) (RuPD), which displays a mean lifetime near 350 ns. We partially characterized the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in calf thymus DNA from RuPD to nile blue (NB) using frequency-domain fluorometry with a high-intensity, blue light-emitting diode (LED) as the modulated light source. There was a significant overlap of the emission spectrum of the donor RuPD with the absorption spectrum of the acceptor NB. The F$\ddot{o}$rster distance ($R_0$) that was calculated from the spectral overlap was $33.4\;{\AA}$. We observed dramatic decreases in the steady-state fluorescence intensities of RuPD when the NB concentration was increased. The intensity decays of RuPD were matched the closest by a triple exponential decay. The mean decay time of RuPD in the absence of the acceptor NB was 350.7 ns. In a concentration-dependent manner, RuPD showed rapid intensity decay times upon adding NB. The mean decay time decreased to 184.6 ns at $100\;{\mu}M$ NB. The FRET efficiency values that are calculated from the mean decay times increased from 0.107 at $20\;{\mu}M$ NB to 0.474 at $100\;{\mu}M$ NB concentration. The use of FRET with a long-lifetime metal-ligand complex donor is expected to offer the opportunity to increase the information about the structure and dynamics of nucleic acids.
The high viscous ${\gamma}$-polyglutamic acid(${\gamma}$-PGA) from alkalophilic Alcaligenes sp. was purified and its solution property was investigated. The intrinsic viscosities for Na+ form and H+ form of ${\gamma}$-PGA were 31.1 and 0.38d$\ell$/g, respectively. The viscosity of H+-PGA was not influenced by pH or salts while that of Na+-PGA was influenced. The intrinsic viscosity of Na+-PGA solution decreased remarkably at the alkaline or acidic pH and showed the sharp decrease when salts were added. ${\gamma}$-PGA exhibited the property of the polyelectrolyte showing the .sharp decrease of intrinsic viscosity by the addition of NaCl, and intrinsic viscosity of dilute solution with the low concentration of NaCl was exponentially dependent on temperature and its temperature dependency increased with increasing NaCl concentration. The chain stiffness, coil overlap parameter and critical concentration of Na+-PGA were 0.08, 5.25 and 0.07g/d$\ell$, respectively.
