Numerical investigation of the groove trap effect with variation in the groove-edge radius of curvature is presented here. The trap effect is evaluated in a two-dimensional sliding bearing using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This simulation is based on the discrete phase model (DPM) and standard k - ε turbulence model using commercial CFD software, FLUENT. The numerical results are evaluated by comparisons with streamlines and particle trajectories in the grooves. Grooves are applied to various lubrication systems to improve their lubrication characteristics, such as load carrying capacity increment, leakage reduction, frictional loss reduction, and preventing three-body abrasive wear due to trapping effect. This study investigates the grove trapping effect for various groove-edge radius of curvature values and Reynolds numbers. The particle is assumed to be made of steel, with a circular shape, and is injected as a single particle in various positions. One-way coupling is used in the DPM model because the single particle injection condition is applied. Further, the "reflect" condition is applied to the wall boundary and "escape" condition is used for the "pressure inlet" and "pressure outlet" boundaries. From the numerical results, the groove edge radius is found to influence the groove trap effect. Moreover, the groove trap effect is more effective when applying the groove edge radius.
In this study, we Presented computational results on the blood flow in the sac of the Korean artificial heart. Two dimensional unsteady flow was assumed and we utilized a finite element commercial code ADINA to simulate the blood flow. Rigid body-solid contact were considered between the actuator and the blood sac and fluid-structure interaction between the blood and the sac. The three geometric models proposed in the design process were simulated to assess the hemodynamic characteristics of the models According to the computational results, a strong flow to the outlet and a stagnated flow region near the inlet were observed during systole. The sac was filled with blood and recirculating flow was generated near the outlet during diastole. Shear stress during systole had its extreme values near the outlet edge whereas the magnitude of shear stress values were relative)v high near the inlet edge and the contacting surface with the actuator.

A lattice BGK model based on a finite difference scheme with an internal degree of freedom is employed and it is shown that a diatomic 9as such as air is successfully simulated In a weak compressive wane problem and Coutte flow, the validity and characteristics of the applied model are examined. With the model. furthermore. we present a 2-dimensional edge tones to predict the frequency characteristics of discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the FDLB model (I.D.F FDLBM) in which any specific heat ratio $\gamma$ can be chosen freely. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guaranteed the Parabolic velocity profile of a jet at the outlet. and the edges have of an angle of $\alpha$=$23^{0}$ and $20^{0}$. A sinuous instability wane with real frequency resulting from Periodic oscillation of the jet around the edge is propagated on the upper and lower of wedge.
Computational simulation was performed to analyze flow velocities and particle trajectories onto the surface of bag-shaped filters with a different permeability. When the permeability of a filter is lower than that of a low-efficient fabric bag-filter widely used, the distributions of flow velocities and particle trajectories on the filter surface were not different with decreasing the filter permeability. The distributions of streamlines and radial directional gas velocities were uniform on the filter surface except for the neighbors of the bottom edge and outlet of the filter. The particle trajectories onto filter surface were more densely distributed around the bottom edge of the filter, so that the particle number on the filter surface was maximized near the bottom edge and decreased in the direction of the filter outlet.
The flow analysis of the axial fan of rotary burner was performed by SIMPLE(Semi Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations) algorithm and finite volume mothod performed in the case of 3-D, incompressible, turbulent flow. In this study, the coordinate transformation was adapted for the complex geometry of axial fan, and the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and wall function method were used for analysis of turbulent flow. Multi-block grid system was used for flow field and divided into four domains such as the inlet, outlet, flow field of rotating vane, and tip clearance. Fan rotation was simulated by rotational motion using MRF(Multiple Rotating Reference Frame) in steady, incompressible state flow.

A numerical procedure to analyze 3-dimensional elastohydrodynamic lubrication was applied on the cam-roller contact of the valve mechanism for a marine diesel engine. Both the pressure distribution and the film thickness between the cam and roller follower were calculated for each time step of the whole cycle. The pressure spike is shown at the outlet of the roller edge and it is getting higher as the external load is increased. An effective profiling method for the roller edge was suggested using the results of elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis and the peak pressure was removed completely with the new profiling.
This paper presents the performance characteristics of a centrifugal blower using the design parameters of an impeller blade. Two design variables, the bending length from the blade trailing edge and bending angles of an impeller blade, are introduced to analyze the effects on the blower performance. Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with shear stress transport turbulence model are introduced to analyze the performance and internal flow of the blower. Relatively good agreement between experimental measurements and numerical simulation at the design flow condition is obtained. Throughout present study, it is known that pressure increases as the bending length from the trailing edge and bending angle increase while efficiency decreases. But efficiency is decreased. Detailed flow field inside the centrifugal blower is also analyzed and compared.

Three inducers were designed to avoid cavitation instabilities. This was accomplished by avoiding the interaction of tip cavity with the leading edge of the next blade. The first one was designed with extremely larger leading edge sweep, the second and third ones were designed with smaller incidence angle by reducing the inlet blade angle or increasing the design flow rate, respectively. The inducer with larger design flow rate has larger outlet blade angle to obtain sufficient pressure rise. The inducer with larger sweep could suppress the cavitation instabilities in higher flow rates more than 95% of design flow coefficient, owing to weaker tip leakage vortex cavity with stronger disturbance by backflow vortices. The inducer with larger outlet blade angle could avoid the cavitation instabilities at higher flow rates, owing to the extension of the tip cavity along the suction surface of the blade. The inducer with smaller inlet blade angle could avoid the cavitation instabilities at higher flow rates, owing to the occurrence of the cavity first in the blade passage and its extension upstream. The cavity shape and suction performance were reasonably simulated by three dimensional CFD computations under the steady cavitating condition, except for the backflow vortex cavity. The difference in the growth of cavity for each inducer is explained from the difference of the pressure distribution on the suction side of the blades.
The lattice Boltzman method (LBM) and the finite difference-based lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM) are quite recent approaches for simulating fluid flow, which have been proven as valid and efficient tools in a variety of complex flow problems. They are considered attractive alternatives to conventional finite-difference schemes because they recover the Navier-Stokes equations and are computationally more stable, and easily parallelizable. However, most models of the LBM or FDLBM are for incompressible fluids because of the simplicity of the structure of the model. Although some models for compressible thermal fluids have been introduced, these models are for monatomic gases, and suffer from the instability in calculations. A lattice BGK model based on a finite difference scheme with an internal degree of freedom is employed and it is shown that a diatomic gas such as air is successfully simulated. In this research we present a 2-dimensional edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the FDLBM in which any specific heat ratio $\gamma$ can be chosen freely. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of a jet at the outlet, and the edge is of an angle of $\alpha$=23$^{o}$. At a stand-off distance w, the edge is inserted along the centerline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle exit and to propagate towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations resulting from periodic oscillation of the jet around the edge.

An unsteady numerical analysis has been carried out to study the strong impeller volute interaction of a centrifugal pump with six backward swept blades shrouded impeller. The numerical analysis is done by solving the three-dimensional Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes codes with standard k-${\varepsilon}$ two-equations turbulence model and wall regions are modeled with a scalable log-law wall function. The flow within the impeller passage is very smooth and following the curvature of the blade in stream-wise direction. However, the analysis shows that there is a recirculation zone near the leading edge even at design point. When the flow is discharged into volute casing circumferentially from the impeller outlet, the high velocity flow is severely distorted and formed a spiraling vortex flow within the volute casing. A spatial and temporal wake flow core development is captured dynamically and shows how the wake core diffuses. Near volute tongue region, the impeller/volute tongue strong interaction is observed based on the periodically fluctuating pressure at outlet. The results of existing analysis also proved that the pressure fluctuation periodically is due to the position of impeller blade relative to tongue.
