  • An economic two-stage screening procedure is presented when both lower and upper specification limits are given on the performance variable. A screening variable which is highly correlated with the performance variable is used first to decide whether an item should be accepted, rejected, or undecided. The performance variable is then used to classify the undecided items. The two variables are assumed to be jointly normally distributed. A cost model is constructed on the basis of six cost components; inspection costs of screening and performance variables and costs caused by type I and type II misclassification errors related with lower and upper specification limits. Optimal cutoff values on the screening variable are determined so that the average outgoing quality exceeds a prespecified level. Solution methods are provided for both known-parameter and unknown-parameter cases.

  • This paper proposes a new AGV dispatching algorithm which is suitable for heterarchical manufacturing control structure. It is developed on the basis of bidding concept utilizing the information of work-in-process in incoming and outgoing buffers of workstation, and travel time of AGV. Since the bidding functions are functions of two parameters, sensitivity test is performed to find their appropriate values. The performance of the algorithm is compared with those of well-known existing rules in terms of system throughput through simulation on a hypothetical job shop type manufacturing system.

  • Effective plan and operation managements can be established in advance if the traffic volume of container ship will be forecasted in the trend for container port's cargo volume to increase. At the viewpoint for marine traffic the number of incoming and outgoing container ship can be presumed in the long run and organised rational plan to deal the demand of marine traffic on the basis. Therefore, the paper estimated the future traffic volume of incoming and outgoing container ship for Busan, Gwangyang, and Incheon port on a forecasting data basis of container volume suggested in the national ports base plan. The trends of volume per ship on container were estimated with ARIMA models and seasonal index was computed. Thus the traffic volume of container ship in the future was estimated computing with volume per ship in 2011,2015, and 2020 respectively.

  • The implementation of a screening procedure for removing non-conforming products has become a common practice especially in high-tech manufacturing industries. Screening procedures involve a measurement on the quality characteristic of interest since decisions regarding the conformance to specifications are usually made on the basis of the realization of measurement. A significant variability in measurement procedures may result in the misclassification of an outgoing product (that is, falsely accepting defectives or falsely rejecting conforming items), which may lead to wrong interpretation on product quality, It may thus be necessary to consider the impacts of misclassification errors due to measurement variability when designing screening procedures. Along this line, this article investigates the design of screening procedures based on the assessment of misclassification errors. The main objective is to determine the screening limits on measured values so that two types of misclassification errors may properly be compromised.

  • Process capability has long been viewed as a critical performance measure to indicate how well a process meet the specifications and customer requirements. Several indices, including $C_p$ and $C_{pk}$, have been proposed and widely implemented to quantify the process capability. However, these indices have been obtained without regard to inspection or screening procedures through which finished products will be truncated at the specifications. Consequently, only a fraction of outgoing products within the specifications will be passed into the customers. From the customer's point of view, it will thus be meaningful to assess the process capability with truncated samples. This article investigates how to estimate the process capability when only incomplete truncated data are available. On the basis of parameter estimation for truncated samples, the proposed methodology may be helpful to evaluate the process capability by examining a sample of items from the lots submitted.

  • It is undertaken systematization of results of satellite and ground observation parameters characterizing a current condition and climatic variability of two selected geographical areas. One of them covers territory of Azerbaijan and another covers a wide area of Caspian See region. Average values and mean square deviations of following values are investigated: outgoing long wave radiation during a day and night (in nebulosity and cloudless). absorbed within a day of the stream of a sunlight of the system in "a terrestrial surface-atmosphere". degree of a covering by clouds of the selected areas during a day and at night, ground temperature values of air. pressure and speed of a wind. Monthly average values of corresponding parameters create a basis of suggested investigations. It has been presented features of a time course of investigated parameters for each month and year in the whole due to the continuously observations since 1982-2000. The scientific problem consists that there are no existed models which authentically would be cover the main aspects of a realities specified changes: they are identified by economic activities. growth of the population and other features of development of a human society or internal fluctuations of biogeophysical/climatic system. Possibilities of predictability of biosphere and climate changes depend on available timely supervision. adequacy of construction of appropriate models. understanding of mechanisms of direct and feedback influences in such complicated systems.

  • In this paper we consider closed flow line systems with samploing inspections. The total number of parts in the system is assumed to be N. The processings carried out of each station do not always meet the requirement of quality. Therefore, upon completion of its processing at each station, a part is inspected to determine whether the processings meet the requirement of quality or not. We assume that inspection are done on a random basis. If a part is found to be defective by an inspection, it is fed back to the apropriate station. Two different cases will be considered in this study : a three-station flow line system with infinite buffers and a two-station flow line system with finite buffers. For each case, we will develop an exact method to obtain the performance measures such as throughput, machinen utilization, average outgoing quality and manufacturing lead time. For the case of the two-station flow line system ith finite buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using these results, we will try to find an optimal inspection policy which maximizes the expected net profit under a certain cost structure. Although we present the results only for the two or three station flow line system in this paper, the results obtained in this paper can be extended easily to the system which consists of more than two or three stations.

  • This paper estimated the future traffic volume incoming and outgoing in Incheon port, and analyzed the value of information serviced by tidal current signal operation center in Incheon. The cargo traffic in 2020 will increase twice as much as in 2005 according to the national ports basis plan. The maritime traffic will increase greatly consequently. Also, MOMAF has operated tidal current signal operation center to prevent marine accidents caused by current influence on vessels navigating through Incheon. However the quantitative effect is not known because there is no analysis about its value. Therefore the value of information serviced by tidal current signal operation center in Incheon was calculated with contingent valuation method(CVM), and the information value was analyzed considering future traffic in this study. Thus, the annual information value was calculated at about $170{\sim}280$ million won, considered traffic volume using the information of tidal current directly in 2020 since 2006.

  • In this paper, we outline the user interface problems that the text messaging users face to provide empirical basis for developing better improved mobile text messaging system. Our initial hypothesis was that the majority of the problems that the text messaging users face, namely, 1) difficulty in correctly understanding the intent of the incoming messages and 2) problem with frequently mis-addressing the recipient of the outgoing messages, can be accounted for by the poor usability of the text messaging user interface. Our analysis is based on the text message-based communication diaries, which were recorded for one week by each and every one of 75 college students, and survey taken from the same subjects. The data was collected in 2004. The students listed various difficulties including the limited message length, obscure input method, lack of mean to express emotional content, lack of receipt confirmation, lack of auto save feature when preparing messages to send, and lack of means to permanently save messages. Some of these problems were also identified in the previous studies. However, we were able to gather additional problems that the users face and also elicit potential solutions to remedy the problems. From these findings and analysis, we attempted to provide ways to improve the text messaging user interface.
