The tegumental ultrastructures oi Echinostoma hortense adults were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The worms of 4 weeks of age were harvested from albino rats experimentally infected with the metacercariae obtained from the loach. The results were as follows: 1. The worms were leaf-like and their anterior end portion, including oral sucker and head crown, ventrally curved to face posteriorly. The tegument of whole body was wrinkled transversely and covered with cobblestone-like cytoplasmic processes. 2. The oral sucker had roundly swollen (type I ) sensory papillae on the ventral half of its lip and mini-ciliated knob-like (type I ) sensory papillae, arranged in 2∼3 rows, on the dorsal outer surface. 3. Aspinous ventral sucker had many of type I papillae arranged in a circular band on its outer surface. The tegument around the genital opening was of similar feature to the ventral sucker, but sensory papillae were hardly found around the former. 4. Scale-like spines with broad base and round tip were distributed densely on the tegument anterior to the ventral sucker but they became sparse in posterior half of the ventral surface, finally to disappear at posterior extremity. A few number of type I papillae were observed on the ventral surface. The results suggest that the tegument of 5. hortense is similar to that of other echinostomes etapecially 5. revolutum. But the number and arrangement of collar spines, and/or the type and distribution of sensory papillae seem characteristic features of E. hortense differed from other echinostomes.
In order to evaluate the effects of functional composts which include elvan, jade and loess, the growth and the yield of Chinese Cabbage and its content of sugar, nitrate and vitamin C were analysed. This study was conducted in lysimeter which was installed in the Experimental Farm of Dankook University. Total fresh weights of Chinese Cabbage were higher in the treatments of compost with mixture of elvan, jade and loess, while numbers of leaf was not increased in those treatments compared to control plot. Leaf length increased more than leaf width, specially in the evlan treatment. Fresh weight of leaf blade and midrib in outer leaf was highest in the plot of elvan treatment among the 6 treatments. Sugar content in the Chinese Cabbage showed lower in the treatment of compost with mixture of elvan, jade and loess compared to control plot. Vitamin content was high in leaf blade compare to those in midrib, and it showed highest value in the treatment of compost with mixture of jade. Nitrate concentration of leaf blade and midrib in the treatment of compost with mixture of loess was lowest at 2,021ppm and 2,235ppm respectively. It shows the effective function of mixture compost with jade, loess and elvan to decrease nitrate content in the Chinese Cabbage.

This study aims to clarify the preference of the hedge, on focusing the height, density, width of the hedge, which gives limited dwelling space continuity with outer space, promotes the naturality to dwelling environment, and plays an important role as green space in city. For this, it is performed statistical analysis by field survey, by classifying the hedge as planting pattern, and synthesizing the photograph. Therefore, the results of this study are as follows : 1. In the preference of height of the hedge, when only the hedge is composed, 1.5M is preferred, and when the hedge with deciduous tree, with needle-leaf tree, 1.25M is preferred. 2. In the preference of density of the hedge, which are perfect density, in case of the hedge, which are almost density, in case of the needle-leaf tree, are preferred. 3. In the preference of width of the hedge, 0.4M is preferred. 4. In the preferential factors of the hedges, the preference of the hedge is mainly influenced by density. As the result of multiple regression analysis of visual preference as the height, the density, the width, and the regression equation are as follows : Visual Preference = 0.094+0.412(density)+0.370(height)+0.177(width)

Locations of silicon accumulation in rice leaves and its possible association with resistance to rice blast were investigated by analytical electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. A blast-susceptible cultivar, Jinmi, and partially resistant cultivars, Hwaseong and Suwon345, were grown under a hydroponic culture system with modified Yoshida's nutrient solution. Electron-dense silicon layers were frequently found beneath the cuticle in epidermal cell walls of silicon-treated plants. Increasing levels of silicon were detected in the outer regions of epidermal cell walls. Silicon was present mainly in epidermal cell walls, middle lamella, and Intercellular spaces within subepidermal tissues. Furthermore, silicon was prevalent throughout the leaf surface with relatively small deposition on stomatal guard cells in silicon-treated plants. Force-distance curve measurements revealed relative hardness and smaller adhesion force in silicon-treated plants (18.65 uN) than control plants (28.39 uN). Moreover, force modulation microscopy showed higher mean height values of elastic Images In silicon-treated plants(1.26 V) than in control plants (0.44 V), implying the increased leaf hardness by silicon treatment. These results strongly suggest that silicon-induced cell wall fortification of rice leaves may be closely associated with enhanced host resistance to blast.
Tomato phenylalanine ammonia-lyase 5 (tPAL5) was identified that alternate initiation sites were utilized differentially in response to environmental stimuli (Lee et al, 1992b). In this study, we tried to look into tissue -or cell- specific expression pattern of tPAL5 gene by fusing with ${\beta}-glucuronidase$ (GUS) gene in transgenic tobacco plants. In transgenic plants, root and stem extracts contained 8~12 fold higher levels of GUS activity than petiole or leaf tissue while the highest levels of induction was observed from leaf tissue by mechanical wounding (5~11 fold). In trans-sections of stems and petioles, GUS activity was restricted to phloem cells(outer region) of developing vascular bundle and mainly at apical tip region in the root tissues. The levels of GUS activity was drastically reduced (10~12 fold reduction) when the 5'-upstream region of tPAL5 gene (-1151bp from ATG codon) was deleted up to -665. The levels of GUS expression, however, raised up by 6~8 fold when deleted up to -455. Therefore, we conclude that there are positive cis-elements at the region -1151 to -1008 and at -455 to -195 while the negative cis-element is at -1008 to -455.
Generally, excessive soil water stress in vegetative growth stage inhibits the growth of soybeans. Leaf area expansion of the plant during excessive soil water stress was only half and the respiration of roots was much diminished compared with the plant none water stress. When excessive soil water stress to the soybeans was continued for 7 days, outer epidermis and vascular system of tap root were severely cracked, more than thirty-five percent of nodule was died and the bacteroid layers of alive nodule were disintegrated.
A study has been made on phenomena of fertilization, hair genesis, and development of such forma of cotton flower as Mok Po 5, Red Leaf, Paymaster, Acala 1517w. 1) The pollen occurs to germinat at 4 hrs after its pollination and reaches the base of style 10 hrs. later, when 18 hrs elapsed, it gets enter at micropyle passes through placenta. 2) There may remain only one synergid as another one is occupied by pollen tube when it enters micropyle. 3) The fertilization completed at 18-48 hrs. after pollination. It was observed that Mok Po5 is the fastest, somewhat slower in Red Leaf and the slowest is the case of Paymaster in its speed. 4) Wool hair is formed by development of daughter cell which is. due to epidermal cell division' it starts its way right before blooming. 5) Wool hair is the most in its number covering about 60-80 within one hour ofter pollination and finishes its forming within 4-6 hours. The number is more abunbant at basal portion of ovule and rather at outer surface than at inner one of it. 6) The average length of wool hair checked at different time limit is as follows. 2.7-8.3$^{\mu} m$ 1 hr after pollination. 43.3-263.7$^{\mu} m$ 24-48 hrs. after pollination. The growth speed both of Mok Po 5 and Red Leaf get nearly same value but Paymaster is somewhat slower in its speed.
Leaves of two developmental stages of Salsola species, young and mature, were examined to reveal the structural and functional relationships in the photosynthetic tissue using anatomical and ultrastructural criteria. Both young and mature leaves had Kranz anatomy of the Salsolid type with two layers of chlorenchyma on the leaf periphery: an outer layer of palisade mesophyll cells and an inner layer of compact bundle sheath cells with centripetally arranged organelles. The chlorenchyma was continuous in young leaves , while it was discontinuous in mature leaves. The main vascular bundle occupied the central position in the leaf. but the small peripheral vascular bundles were in contact with the chlorenchyma. Structural dimorphism of chloroplasts was obvious in bundle sheath cells of mature leaves exhibiting noticeable grana reduction, whereas mesophyll cell chloroplasts had well developed grana in all cases. Plasmodesmata were less numerous and rather simple in young leaves relative to well-developed secondary plasmodesmata of the later stage. According to the current data, features of two stages of Salsola leaves corresponded to NADP-ME bio-chemical subtype on the basis of photosynthetic cell ultrastructure. Implications of developing such anatomical and ultrastructural data of Sulsola species and biochemical characteristics reported in other C-4 species have been discussed.
Leaflets of Allium sativum L. (garlic) and leaf scales Allium cepa L. (onion) were cultured on the Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium to study the effects of plant growth regulators, temperature and light on the formation of shoot and root. And also, the potentiality of shoot or root formation of tissues in accordance with the leaf age and the region was discussed. In the experiment with garlic, the formation of shoot and root was more effective on the medium containing $BA\;2mg/{\ell}$ and $NAA\;1mg/{\ell}$ and it occured on the basal region of outer leaflets. The shoot formation was more effective at $20^{\circ}C$ than $28^{\circ}C$ under 16-hour daylength, and it was more effective in darkness than light condition at $28^{\circ}C$. The results of shoot and root formation on the new cloves of garlic harvested in 1982 were similar to those the old cloves of garlic harvested in 1981. In the experiment with leaf seales of onion, when the tissues of dormant leaf scales of onions harvested in 1981 were explanted on the MS medium, a few shoots were formed on the medium containing $BA\;2mg/{\ell}$ and $NAA\;1mg/{\ell}$. In this case, there were no differences on the shoot formation among the age and region of leaflets. On the culture of leaf scales, the shoot was not formed on the leaf scales located at outer or middle region, but it was formed on the medium containing BA accompanied with NAA at inner scales. On the medium complemented with BA alone, the tissues were not differentiated, but on the medium complemented with NAA, the callus was formed from tissues and then the root was formed through the callus.

One of the principal components of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) tokamak structure is the vacuum vessel, which acts as the high vacuum boundary for the plasma and also provides the structural support for internal components. Hyundai Heavy Industries Inc. has performed the engineering design of the vacuum vessel. Here the overall configuration of the KSTAR vacuum vessel was briefly described and then the design methodology and the analysis results were presented. The vacuum vessel consists of double walls, several ports, leaf spring style supports. Double walls are separated by reinforcing ribs and filled with baking/shielding water. The overall external dimensions of the main body are 3.39 m high, 1.11 m inner radius, 2.99 m outer radius, and made of SA240-316LN. The vacuum vessel was designed to be capable of achieving the base pressure of $1\times10^{-8}$ Torr, and also to be structurally capable of sustaining the vacuum pressure, the electromagnetic and thermal loads during plasma disruption and bakeout, respectively. The vacuum vessel will be baked out maximum $150^{\circ}C$ by hot pressurized water through the channels formed between double walls and the reinforcing ribs. A 3-D temperature distribution and the resulting thermal loads in the vessel were calculated during bakeout. It was found that the vacuum vessel and its supports were structurally rigid based on the thermal stress analysis. The maximum electromagnetic loads on the vacuum vessel induced by eddy and halo currents resulting from the engineering plasma radial and vertical disruption scenarios have been estimated. The stress analyses have been performed based on these electromagnetic loads and the resulting stresses at he critical locations of the vacuum vessel were within the allowable stresses.
