For computer aided design and costruction of low noisy power plants, indoor and outdoor noise prediction program has been developed. The program utilizes the predefined data of noise sources and building materials and has the faculty to estimate the source level using the empirical formula in case of the measured data not being available. In the noise prediction, the mutual noise propagation between indoor and outdoor sites are considered. The outdoor noise source in the calculation of geometric divergence effects is modelled as the omni-directional finite line or planar source according to the source geometry and the receiving points. Outdoor noise prediction is carried out to consider the diffraction effect due to plant structures as well as the attenuation effect due to atmospheric absorption and soft ground. The results of indoor and outdoor noise prediction for a recently constructed diesel engine power plant show good agreement with the measured.

Location-based service (LBS) is becoming an important part of the information technology (IT) business. Localization is a core technology for LBS because LBS is based on the position of each device or user. In case of outdoor, GPS - which is used to determine the position of a moving user - is the dominant technology. As satellite signal cannot reach indoor, GPS cannot be used in indoor environment. Therefore, research and study about indoor localization technology, which has the same accuracy as an outdoor GPS, is needed for "seamless LBS". For indoor localization, we consider the IEEE802.11 WLAN environment. Generally, received signal strength indicator (RSSI) is used to obtain a specific position of the user under the WLAN environment. RSSI has a characteristic that is decreased over distance. To use RSSI at indoor localization, a mathematical model of RSSI, which reflects its characteristic, is used. However, this RSSI of the mathematical model is different from a real RSSI, which, in reality, has a sensitive parameter that is much affected by the propagation environment. This difference causes the occurrence of localization error. Thus, it is necessary to set a proper RSSI model in order to obtain an accurate localization result. We propose a method in which the parameters of the propagation environment are determined using only RSSI measurements obtained during localization.
A fungal spore transportation model that accounts for the concentration of airborne indoor spores and the amount of spores deposited on interior surfaces has been developed by extending the current aerosol model. This model is intended to be used for a building with a mechanical ventilation system, and considers HVAC filter efficiency and ventilation rate. The model also includes a surface-cleaning efficiency and frequency that removes a portion of spores deposited on surfaces. The developed model predicts indoor fungal spore concentration and provides an indoor/outdoor ratio that may increase or decrease mold growth risks in real, in-use building cases. To get a more useful outcome from the model simulation, an uncertainty analysis has been conducted in a real building case. By including uncertainties associated with the parameters in the spore transportation model, the simulation results provide probable ranges of indoor concentration and indoor/outdoor ratio. This paper describes the uncertainty quantification of each parameter that is specific to fungal spores, and uncertainty propagation using an appropriate statistical technique. The outcome of the uncertainty analysis showed an agreement with the results from the field measurement with air sampling in a real building.

Assuming omnidirectional antenna reception, the ITU-R recently developed a new propagation model on building entry loss (BEL) for 5G millimeter-wave frequency sharing and compatibility studies, which is a simplified outdoor-to-indoor path loss model. Considering the utilization of high-gain narrow-beamwidth beamforming, the omnidirectional-based ITU-R BEL model may not be appropriate to predict propagation characteristics for directional beamforming scenarios. This paper studies the effects of beamwidth on the ITU-R BEL model. This study is based on field measurements collected with four different beamwidth antennas: omnidirectional, 10° horn, 30° horn, and 60° horn. The measurement campaigns were conducted at two types of building sites: traditional and thermally efficient buildings. These sites, as well as the measurement scenarios, were carefully chosen to comply with the ITU-R BEL measurement guidelines and the ITU-R building types. We observed the importance of accurate beam alignment from the BEL variation range. We were able to quantify the beamwidth dependency by fitting to a model that is inversely proportional to the beamwidth.

Super Wi-Fi is a Wi-Fi-like service exploiting TV white space (WS) which is expected to achieve larger coverage than today's Wi-Fi thanks to its superior propagation characteristics. Super Wi-Fi has been materialized as an international standard, IEEE 802.11af, targeting indoor and outdoor applications, and is undergoing worldwide field tests. This paper demonstrates the true potential of indoor Super Wi-Fi, by experimentally comparing the signal propagation characteristics of Super Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi in the same indoor environment. Specifically, we measured the wall and floor attenuation factors and the path-loss distribution at 770MHz, 2.401 GHz, and 5.540 GHz, and predicted the downlink capacity of Wi-Fi and Super Wi-Fi. The experimental results have revealed that TVWS signals can penetrate up to two floors above and below, whereas Wi-Fi signals experience significant path loss even through a single floor. It has been also shown that Super Wi-Fi mitigates shaded regions of Wi-Fi by providing almost-homogeneous data rates within its coverage, performs comparable to Wi-Fi utilizing less bandwidth, and always achieves better spectral efficiency than Wi-Fi. The observed phenomena imply that Super Wi-Fi is suitable for indoor applications and has the potential of extending horizontal and vertical coverage of today's Wi-Fi.
In this paper, we proposed a method to determine optimal wave source for mobile telephone communication. The approach is based on wave propagation simulation. Given a wave source we can determine wave propagation effects on every surfaces of wave simulation environment. The effect is evaluated as a cost function while the source’s position x, y, z work as variables for a parameter optimization. Wave propagated 3 dimensional space generates reflected waves whenever it hits boundary surface, it receives multiple waves which are reflected from various boundary surfacers in space. Three algorithms being implemented in this paper are based on a raytracing theory. If we get 3 dimensional geometry input as well as wave sources, we can compute wave propagation effects all over the boundary surfaces. In this paper, we present a new approach to compute wave propagation. First approach is tracing wave from a source. Source is modeled as a sphere casting vectors into various directions. This approach has limit in computing necessary wave propagation effects on all terrain surfaces. The second approach proposed is tracing wave backwards : tracing from a wave receiver to a wave source. For this approach we need to allocate a wave receiver on every terrain surfaces modeled, which requires enormous amount of computing time. But the second approach is useful for indoor wave propagation simulation. The last approach proposed in this paper is tracing sound by geometric computation. We allow direct, 1-relfe tion, and 2-reflection propagation. This approach allow us to save in computation time while achieving reasonable results. but due to the reflection limitaion, this approach works best in outdoor environment.
A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a flexible data communication system implemented as an extension to, or as an alternative for, a wired LAN with in a building or campus. However, communications in an indoor environment present problems not encountered in outdoor wireless communication systems. Since cellular type systems are interference limited, the indoor environment is more hostile than the outdoor environment due to the lower propagation constant. In this paper, the equation for the signal to interference ratio in a multistory building will be derived. Knowing the S/I ratio, the floor frequency reuse can be determined. Finally, the simulation in this research is designed to study the performance (BER) of WLAN system in the multistory environment by applying the 8-PSK Trellis Coded modulation technique. The procedure allows a quick evaluation of BER in Wireless LAN system due to the co-channel interference.

Location-based services provide customized information or services according to the user's location. The existing localization schemes for outdoor environment are not applicable to the indoor localization system which requires higher accuracy of location estimation than that of the outdoor localization system. In this paper, we employ the received signal strength(RSS) to approximate the distance between a moving target and a reference point and use the triangulation method to estimate the location of the moving target for the indoor localization system in IEEE 802.15.4 wireless PAN(personal area network). For the indoor localization system, we propose a scheme which selects the best reference points to enhance the localization accuracy and adaptively reflects the changes in propagation environments of a moving target to the distance approximation. Through the implementation of the localization system, we have verified the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the estimation accuracy.
