Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of bisphosphonates (BPs) on the proliferation and the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), and thus state its correlation with bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). Methods: hMSCs was obtained by collecting and culturing cancellous bone fragments from a patient undergoing iliac bone graft. Alendronate (Aln) and Pamidronate (Pam), Ibandronate (Ibn) were added to the culture media in the concentration from $10^{-3}$ M to $10^{-11}$ M and cell toxicity, viability were measured. For ALP activity evaluation, Aln and Pam were added to the culture media in the concentration from $5{\times}10^{-7}$ M to $1{\times}10^{-8}$ M and were cultured for 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. ALP activity data were standardized using protein assay. Control groups were prepared for each examination. Results: Aln, Pam and Ibn all failed to increase the proliferation of hMSCs. With 1 week, 2 weeks of $5{\times}10^{-8}$M of Aln treatment, the ALP activity increased. Pam treatment increased the ALP activity with 2 weeks of $5{\times}10^{-8}$ M and$1{\times}10^{-8}$M. Also Ibn treatment increased the ALP activity with 2 weeks of $5{\times}10^{-8}$ M and $1{\times}10^{-8}$ M. Conclusion: It is considered that BPs are not capable of improving the proliferation of hMSCs. Also, after a transient increase in the ALP activity with the lower concentration of BPs, the activity decreased again. Therefore, in patients on long-term medication of BPs, the proliferation and osteoblast differentiation of hMSCs are restrained, and thus delayed wound healing and increase in BRONJ complications may occur.

The purpose of this study is to utilize science TV program 'Science TV' among science communication that plays important role in the popularization of science as science communication materials. I apply it at early morning classes on elementary school students and analysis the responses of students to science communication activity. In order to achieve this goal, the review on preliminary studies and relevant documents were carried out and program called 'The aroma of science encountered in the forest of science' as the contents of daily life-centered theme that can be easily understood by students in elementary school was selected. Moreover, themes of total 15 episodes were determined by analyzing their contents. The materials were applied to science communication activity targeting 1 class with 21 students in second grade of elementary school. The survey on the responses toward the activity was conducted after the activity. The result of analyzing the survey, students displayed positive response toward science communication activity utilizing 'Science TV'. The result of the activity analysis and survey analysis after the activity displayed that students passionately participated in science communication activity utilizing 'Science TV' in early morning classes on elementary school. Also, students displayed positive response toward science communication activity utilizing 'Science TV' such as the increase in the understanding of science, and others.

This research was planned and executed to evaluate how the nutritional composition and antioxidants contents and antioxidative activity of Hongsambak. Also, can effect health conditions of people who are suffering from diet-related disease like obesity and hyperlipidemia by taking healthy foods with Hongsambak in a form of nutritional supplement with our daily meals. With this observation, we found out that Hongsambak has high content of dietary fiber and effect on antioxidative activity. We concluded that we could apply the components in a form of various foods. The information we received from this conclusion will be a basic information on how we can apply oriental medicinal resources into other foods and in the field of functional food research, which already draes sizable attention world-wide.

In order to find out anti-platelet activating factor (PAF) from natural resources, Korean medicinal plants used for the treatments of peripheral circulation disorders were tested for their possible protective effects on PAF-induced anaphylactic shock. From the above screening, the methanol extract of Gentiana scabra showed a potent antagonistic activity against PAF. Water suspension of the extract was partitioned with $CH_2$$CI_2$ and EtOAc, successively. The EtOAc fraction which showed the highest activity was chromatographed on silica gel to yield 6 fractions. From the fraction which showed higher PAF-antagonistic activity than the other fractions, compound 1 was isolated by recrystallization. On the basis of spectral data, compound 1 was identified as 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoic acid glucose ester. The compound prevented the mice from the PAF-induced death at a dose of 300 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mouse.

With the proliferation of activity-tracking devices and other smart tools, more users leverage these personal informatics technologies to track their physical and fitness-related activities. The research on the benefits (and limitations) of these devices tends to focus on the use of a single tool, leaving out the interactions among multiple technologies, and how these interactions influence the way users perceive their affordances. Building from an ecological perspective, I extend this research by providing insight into the competitive and complementary relationships among activity tracking devices and other fitness-related and personal informatics technologies within the device ecology of technologies around the user. The affordances of these devices are therefore not enacted in isolation but are relational to understanding of other technological options and differing personal preferences and goals of the user.

Subway is electrified railway system nowadays, in which liquid dielectric transformers have been widely used, though mold type transformers are replacing it. The transformers supplies large electric power and have innate hazards causing accidents under operation. A number of researcher have carried out on failures of it and have oriented to identify transformer's failure causes and how to maintain it healthy state. The transformer failures can cause serious accidents which can provoke economic loss and leads persons to kill. In this paper, we carried out a safety activity to reveal hazards and to estimate risk of subway liquid dielectric transformers using FMEA, HAZOP and What-if methods. In case of installing safety devices in oil immersed transformer, we tried to evaluate an effect on a subsystem's failure rate. We proposed how to design subsystem failure rate and safety device failure rates.

The classical Geometric Brownian motion (GBM) model for the price of a risky asset, from which the huge financial derivatives industry has developed, stipulates that the log returns are iid Gaussian. however, typical log returns data show a distribution with much higher peaks and heavier tails than the Gaussian as well as evidence of strong and persistent dependence. In this paper we describe a simple replacement for GBM, a fractal activity time Geometric Brownian motion (FATGBM) model based on fractal activity time which readily explains these observed features in the data. Consequences of the model are explained, and examples are given to illustrate how the self-similar scaling properties of the activity time check out in practice.

The purpose of this study is to find the relationships among communication competency, social network centrality(trust centrality and knowledge sharing centrality), discussion performance, and online boarding activity in the team based learning situation. For investigating this topic, 44 students are participated in the classes of educational technology. In order to find out the relationships among communication competency, social network centrality, discussion performance, and online boarding activity, compared t-test and path analysis are used. Followings are the results of the research: (a) Communication competency is improved significantly after team based learning. (b) Trust centrality effects significantly on the knowledge sharing centrality. (c) Knowledge sharing effects significantly on discussion performance. (d) Trust centrality effects on the online boarding activity in the team based learning.

In this study, I developed an activity oriented lesson to support the understanding of probabilistic and quantitative estimating population ratios according to the standard statistical principles and discussed its implications in didactical respects. The developed activity lesson, as an efficient physical simulation activity by sampling with replacement, simulates unknown populations and real problem situations through completely closed 'Closed Box' in which we can not see nor take out the inside balls, and provides teaching and learning devices which highlight the representativeness of sample ratios and the sampling variability. I applied this activity lesson to the gifted students who did not learn estimating population ratios and collected the research data such as the activity sheets and recording and transcribing data of students' presenting, and analyzed them by Qualitative Content Analysis. As a result of an application, this activity lesson was effective in recognizing and reflecting on the representativeness of sample ratios and recognizing the random sampling variability. On the other hand, in order to show the sampling variability clearer, I discussed appropriately increasing the total number of the inside balls put in 'Closed Box' and the active involvement of the teachers to make students pay attention to controlling possible selection bias in sampling processes.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate a clinical effect of Coo-Sun activity focusing on improvement of quality of life in female cancer patients. Methods: The subject of study consisted of 5 female cancer patients at the East-West Cancer Center of OO Oriental hospital. The survey methods of this study are Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Patients performed Coo-Sun activity 6 times a week and filled out FACT-G and STAI questionnaire after every 3 times training. Results: In FACT-G questionnaire, physical well-being and emotional wellbeing was improved significantly after Coo-Sun activity. And change of social/family well-being and functional well-being score were not significant statistically. In STAI questionnaire, STAI1 was improved significantly after Coo-Sun activity. And change of STAI2 score was not significant statistically. Conclusion: After Coo-Sun activity, quality of life (QOL) in female cancer patients was improved and anxiety was decreased. But this study have limitation to prove effects of Coo-Sun activity completely in female cancer patients. So well designed prospective cohort study will be needed to prove its benefits.
