  • The characteristics of pressure-drop oscillations(PDO) in boiling channel are studied experimentally. The effects of initial and boundary conditions on PDO are investigated in terms of oscillation period and amplitude. The period and amplitude of PDO are increased with the increase in the compressible volume in surge tank and heat input. However the amplitude of PDO is decreased with fluid temperature under low subcooling condition. Higher initial insurge flowrate resulted in almost invariant oscillation period but lower amplitude. At higher heat input the oscillation of heater wall temperature is significant, whose period is the same as that of pressure-drop instability.

  • In this paper, the electrical conduction phenomena of oriented polypropylene film were studied. Especially, as for the range of negative characteristics, it is observed that as increasing ambient temperature, the characteristics are shifted gradually towards the low intensity side of applied field with the decreasing width of the range as well as the fact that the currant oscillation takes place at the both transition points of the characteristics and that the point at the place the dielectric breakdown, occurs. Finally, it is also suggestive that the oscillation characteristics observed on the negative resistance range of the biaxially oriented specimen show the possibility to utilize it as active element materials.

  • A ground hot-firing test(HFT) was accomplished to draw a correlation between the pressure oscillation intensity of combustion chamber and thrust response characteristics in a 70 N-class hydrazine thruster which has been developed recently. Monopropellant grade hydrazine was adopted as a propellant for the HFT, and combustion-chamber characteristic length, propellant injection pressure were applied as test parameters. It was confirmed that the decrease of thrust-chamber diameter and injection pressure augmented the pressure oscillation of stagnation chamber in the test condition specified, and the oscillation hampered the pulse response performance of test models.

  • Low frequency oscillation of inter-area system is important problem in power system areas because the operation conditions of power system depend on it. Generally, the analysis of the problem is used by small signal stability. Especially, the analysis results are affected by decision of load models. In this paper, the effect of the analysis results was studied according to load component characteristics. ZIP model, popular in large-scaled power system analysis, was used as the load model. Many cases were studied according to the combination of ZIP model in inter-area system.

  • The impacts of El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon on climate are widespread and extend far beyond the tropical Pacific. The phenomenon can be characterized by Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) which is derived from values of the monthly mean sea level pressure barometric difference between Tahiti and Darwin, Australia. Its best-known extreme is the El Nino event. In this study, general statistical characteristics of SOI and the data from which it is derived (i.e. mean sea level pressure data at Tahiti and Darwin) are presented as guidance when using SOI far other analyses. The characteristics include the availability of the barometric pressure data, statistics of monthly pressure data, correlation of SO intensity, frequency analysis of SOI by magnitude and by month (January-December), duration properties of SOI by run analysis.

  • At previous study, nitrogen oxide emission was decreased with decreasing pressure index. This tendency was explained by the flame oscillation with changing combustor pressure. In this study, the characteristics of flame oscillation with changing combustor pressure were investigated. It can be found that flame length is extended and flame width is narrowed by decreasing combustor pressure. It can be observed that pilot flame and the surrounding air converge on the inner flame in the $P^{\ast}{\geqq}1$ conditions and that surrounding air and flow pattern was widely dispersed in the $P^{\ast}<1$ conditions. In the respect of average flame length, low fluctuation was shown in the $P^{\ast}<1$ conditions. On the other hands, large fluctuation was shown in the $P^{\ast}<1$ conditions. Flame oscillation are observed from $P^{\ast}=$ 0.98 in the condition of $P^{\ast}<1$ and the amplitude of flame oscillation becomes larger when $P^{\ast}$ is lowered. These results demonstrate that low NOx phenomenon was caused by flame oscillation with changing combustor pressure.

  • The effectiveness of passive control techniques for alleviating the pressure oscillation generated in a supersonic cavity flow was investigated numerically and experimentally, respectively. The control device includes a sub-cavity installed near the leading edge of a rectangular cavity. Time-dependent supersonic cavity flow characteristics with turbulent features were examined by using the three-dimensional, mass-averaged Navier-Stokes computation based on a finite volume scheme and large eddy simulation. The results show that the pressure oscillation near the trailing edge dominates overall time-dependent cavity pressure variations. Such an oscillation can be attenuated more significantly in the presence of the sub-cavity compared with the cavity without sub-cavity, and a larger sub-cavity leads to better control performance.

  • Combustion instability is a common phenomenon in a ducted flame burner and is known as accompanying low frequency oscillation. This is due to the interaction between unsteady heat release rate and sound pressure field, that is, thermoacoustic feedback. In Rayleigh criterion, combustion instability is triggered when the heat addition is in phase with acoustic oscillation. A Rijke type burner with a pre-mixed flame is built for investigating the effect of Reynolds number and equivalence ratio on thermoacoustic oscillation. The results suggest that the frequency of max, oscillation is dependent on Reynolds number and equivalence ratio whereas its magnitude is not a strong function of these two parameters.

  • The performance of a valveless micropump driven by chamber wall oscillation was numerically investigated for various frequency and amplitude of the oscillation. The numerical study was performed in the range of oscillation frequency from 200Hz to 1000Hz and amplitude from $1{\mu}m$ to $15{\mu}m$. And optimal values for the parameters are found. At the oscillation frequency 600Hz, the net flow rate of micropump shows a maximum value. Also the results show good agreement with the experimental results. The total flow rate was increased with the oscillation amplitude. However, the net flow rate was found to be decreased over $7{\mu}m$.

  • The characteristics of lifted butane flames diluted with nitrogen have been investigated experimentally in order to elucidate the mechanism of individual flame oscillation modes. Flame oscillations in laminar free-jet lift-off flames are classified into the following five regimes: a stabilized lift-off regime (I), a heat-loss-induced oscillation (II), a buoyancy-induced oscillation along with a heat-loss-induced oscillation (III), a combined form of an oscillation prior to blow-out and a heat-loss-induced oscillation (IV), and a combination of an oscillation prior to blow-out and a buoyancy-induced oscillation along with a heat-loss-induced oscillation (V). The characterization of the individual flame oscillations modes are presented and discussed using Strouhal numbers and their relevant parameters by the analysis of the power spectrum for temporal variation of the lift-off height.
