  • The characteristics of lifted butane flames diluted with nitrogen have been investigated experimentally in order to elucidate the mechanism of individual flame oscillation modes. Flame oscillations in laminar free-jet lift-off flames are classified into the following five regimes: a stabilized lift-off regime (I), a heat-loss-induced oscillation (II), a buoyancy-induced oscillation along with a heat-loss-induced oscillation (III), a combined form of an oscillation prior to blow-out and a heat-loss-induced oscillation (IV), and a combination of an oscillation prior to blow-out and a buoyancy-induced oscillation along with a heat-loss-induced oscillation (V). The characterization of the individual flame oscillations modes are presented and discussed using Strouhal numbers and their relevant parameters by the analysis of the power spectrum for temporal variation of the lift-off height.

  • The subspan oscillation is the most important in bundled transmission lines, which can cause conductor damage and transmission line hardware failures. So it is necessary to analyze the subspan oscillation in details for transmission lines. This paper suggests the basic concept and theoretical analysis method of subspan oscillation for 6 bundle conductor transmission line, which considers wind speed, subspan length and conductor tension. Especially this paper uses a spacer damper model with clamp-arm flexibility and damping characteristics. Theoretical analysis results are proposed.

  • The characteristics of lifted laminar propane flames diluted with nitrogen have been investigated experimentally to elucidate self-excitation and the effects of flame curvature. Flame oscillation modes are classified as follows: oscillation induced by heat loss, a combination of oscillations induced by heat loss and buoyancy, and a combination of the oscillations induced by heat loss and diffusive thermal instability. It is shown that the oscillation induced only by heat loss is not relevant to the diffusive thermal instability and hydrodynamic instability caused by buoyancy; this oscillation is observed under all lift-off flame conditions irrespective of the fuel Lewis number. These experimental evidences are displayed through the analysis of the power spectrum for the temporal variation of lift-off height. The possible mechanism of the oscillation induced by heat loss is also discussed.

  • Experiments in methane-air low strain rate counterflow diffusion flames diluted with nitrogen have been conducted to study the behavior of flame extinction and edge flame oscillation in which lateral conduction heat loss in addition to radiative heat loss could be remarkable at low global strain rates. Onset conditions of edge flame oscillation and flame oscillation modes are also provided with global strain rate. It is seen that flame length is closely relevant to lateral heat loss, and this affects flame extinction and edge flame oscillation. Edge flame oscillations in low strain rate flames are categorized into three: a growing oscillation mode, a decaying oscillation mode, and a harmonic oscillation mode. The regime of flame oscillation is also provided at low strain rate flames.

  • This paper deals with an experimental technique for the measurement of dynamic stability derivatives in the roll motion of aircraft. Experimental aquisition method for aircraft's dynamic stability derivatives is conducted on the oscillation condition of aircraft model in the subsonic wind tunnel. The oscillation of aircraft model was forced by the oscillation apparatus. The forced oscillation technique is the method getting data from the internal balance inserted into the aircraft model during oscillating it. Dynamic stability derivatives of rolling motion were calculated by data reduction from the measurements of rolling moment, frequency and amplitude of aircraft model due to forced oscillation under wind conditions. Results of experiment is obtained similar one with those of roll dynamic stability derivatives measured in other institutes.

  • Weld pool oscillation for the full-penetration GTA welding process was investigated for its possible application to weld penetration control through theoretical modeling and experiment. Energy method was used to estimate the natural frequency of the molten pool having the physically-acceptable weld geometry and oscillation modes. An unique experimental system was built which had the data acquisiton and video capabilities so that the pool oscillation signals and molten pool surfaces could be monitored continuously. Pool oscillation was detected through arc voltage and arc light emission simultaneously. The signal from arc light emission showed good coherence with that from arc voltage, and arc light generated the higher quality signal. The molten pool was found to oscillate in different oscillation modes based on the travel speed and weld geometry. The natural frequency estimated from the theoretical model agreed reasonably well with the experimental results.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the onset condition and the frequency characteristics of the low-frequency combustion oscillation in a surface burner. For this purpose, extensive parametric studies have been performed experimentally and the effects of size of each section, the equivalence ratio, and the entrance velocity on oscillatory behavior explored. The experimental results were discussed in comparison with the other combustors associated tilth the low-frequency combustion oscillation. The combustion mode is driven at high combustion rate by the lift of unstable flame near the lower limit of the combustible equivalence ratio. The oscillation frequency is dependent not on the burner geometry but on the equivalence ratio and the combustion load. Low-frequency combustion mode was formed to be divided into two different modes, named C1 and C2 respectively. Two modes occurred individually, simultaneously or transitionally according to the equivalence ratio and combustion load. The characteristics of low-frequency oscillation is different from each other depending on the type of combustors. The surface burner has also its own characteristics of low -frequency oscillation.

  • Damping characteristics of pressure oscillation induced by an orifice in fluid feeding line for are investigated numerically and experimentally. Assuming small pressure oscillation, acoustic damping effect of orifice is confirmed experimentally, and with the mean flow, damping characteristics of an orifice are investigated numerically. When an orifice is installed at the node of pressure oscillation corresponding to the anti-node of velocity oscillation, suppression of pressure oscillation is maximized and with the mean flow, the resonant frequency is decreased. And, it is found that the optimal position of an orifice for damping shouled be changed.

  • A cause of noise and vibration which come from a Combustion of gas heater are a combustion roar and Combustion oscillation. A character of a combustion roar is that sound pressure is distribute with broad band frequency. otherwise, The presence of combustion oscillation caused by positive Feed Back in Combustion Chamber break out a noise and vibration. Accordingly, The method that be solved a noise and vibration is to make each natural frequency different frequency. first, in order to solve problem, we control ratio of fuel and air. that is, Keep away resonance. second, in order to changing natural frequency of Combustion Chamber, We changed the shape of Economizer.

  • This paper aims to analyze number of Asian dust days and their controlling factors in Korea. Asian dust days, Arctic oscillation index, Antarctic oscillation index and Eurasian snow cover data were used in this study. The number of Asian dust days was increasing after the middle 1980s. The number of Asian dust days was concentrated in April. The number of Asian dust days was increased second half (5.1 days) than first half (3.2 days) of the study period. The number of Asian dust days had positive relationship with winter Arctic oscillation index and Antarctic oscillation index. When the Arctic oscillation index and Antarctic oscillation index is positive, the Asian dust days will be increased. The number of Asian dust days had negative relationship with the Eurasian snow cover. When the Eurasian snow cover will be decreased, the Asian dust days will be increased.
