With the ease availability of statistical software and powerful computers the application of statistical methods in domestic veterinary journals is on the increase. In parallel with this benefit, statistical errors are not uncommon even in renowned scientific and medical journals. These errors may lead to misinterpretation of the data, thereby, subjected to faulty conclusions. A systematic review of articles published in 8 issues of the Journal of Veterinary Clinics during 2006-2007 was performed to assess the statistical methodology and reporting. Ninety-four (72.9%) articles of the 129 original articles screened included any inferential statistical analysis in the article, including comparison of 3 or more groups (53 or 56.4%), comparison of independent 2 groups (40 or 42.6%), and paired t-test (9 or 9.6%) in order. Of the 94 articles in which statistical analysis was done 62 (or 66.0%) had at least 1 statistical error. Errors included failure to apply or incorrectly applying independent Student's t-test for paired data or vice versa, inappropriate use of t-test for more than 3 groups and failure in chi-square test to consider continuity-correction for small expected frequencies. The common errors in ANOVA were failure to validate assumption of the test, inappropriate post-hoc multiple-comparison and incorrect assumption of independence of data in repeated measures design. Reporting errors included failure to state statistical methods and failure to state specific test if more than 1 test was done. It is suggested that an editorial effort would be necessary to achieve the improvement of appropriate statistical procedures through the publication of statistical guidelines to author(s).
The findings of a 2017 safety inspection of the Three-story Pagoda from the Goseonsa Temple site in Gyeongju suggested the possibility that the stone for the second story of the pagoda may have been rotated after the pagoda was disassembled for removal from its original site in 1975. The materials from the pagoda were investigated using photographs and other relevant data from both the Japanese colonial period and from around 1975. The analysis found that the materials of the pagoda were not changed after analleged reconstruction in 1943, but that during the process of relocating the pagoda in 1975 the body of the second story was indeed rotated counter clockwise by 90 degrees and one of the four stone elements making up the first-story roof was exchanged with a part from the second-story roof. In order to discover whether the materials had been incorrectly placed, each part of the pagoda was precisely measured and the elements of the roofs were virtually reconstructed using 3D scanning data. The investigation did not find any singularities with in the components of each roof; the four part sof the first-story roof were 75 to 76 centimeters thick and those for the second-story roof were 78 to 79 centimeters thick. The connections between each part of the roofs also appeared natural. This seems to indicate that there was indeed an undocumented repair of the pagoda at some point between its creation and 1943 and an error that took place during this repair was corrected in 1975. In addition, the study suggested a possibility that the body of the second story was rotated counter clockwised to a change in the locations of parts of the two roofs.
Object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding (OOASC) subdivides each image of a sequence into a number of moving objects and estimates and compensates the motion of each object. It employs a motion parameter technique for estimating motion information of each object. The motion parameter technique employing gradient operators requires a high computational load. The main objective of this paper is to present efficient motion parameter estimation techniques using the hierarchical structure in object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding. In order to achieve this goal, this paper proposes two algorithms : hybrid motion parameter estimation method (HMPEM) and adaptive motion parameter estimation method (AMPEM) using the hierarchical structure. HMPEM uses the proposed hierarchical structure, in which six or eight motion parameters are estimated by a parameter verification process in a low-resolution image, whose size is equal to one fourth of that of an original image. AMPEM uses the same hierarchical structure with the motion detection criterion that measures the amount of motion based on the temporal co-occurrence matrices for adaptive estimation of the motion parameters. This method is fast and easily implemented using parallel processing techniques. Theoretical analysis and computer simulation show that the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the image reconstructed by the proposed method lies between those of images reconstructed by the conventional 6- and 8-parameter estimation methods with a greatly reduced computational load by a factor of about four.

Investigations were conducted on the effects of different blanching solutions and time on tile quality of carrot juice to minimize undesirable changes in color, taste and flavor of raw carrot. Juice yields were 65.9% in raw juice(RJ), 51.7~55.3% in juice by blanching in water(JBIW) and 44.6% in juice by blanching in acetic acid solution(JBIA). pH of JBIW was 6.12~6.37, similar to RJ, while that of JBIA was 4.85. Soluble solid was in the decreasing order of RJ, JBIW and JBIA. Turbidities of JBIW for 1 min and JBIA for 5 min after 3 day storage at $4^{\circ}C$ were maintained by 94% compared to the original juice. Only 44~46% of $\beta-carotene$ was extracted from carrots during pressing, and f-carotene was extracted to a greater extent than $\alpha-carotene.$ Sensory evaluation indicated that JBIW for 1 min was superior to nth and commercially available juice in overall acceptance.
Yellow sea bream, Branchiostegus japonicus, has been one of the widely consumed food fish in Jeju-Do, Korea. This study was attempted to establish the basic data for evaluating changes of taste compounds of the yellow sea bream during dehydration. The free amino acids were analysed by amino acid autoanalyser. The free amino acid composition of the raw yellow sea bream, abundant amino acids were lysine, alanine, threonine and arginine and then taurine, serine, proline, glycine, glutamic acid, leucine in order. Such amino acids as valine, methionine, tyrosine, isoleucine, phenylalanine were poor in content. The changes of free anino acid composition in the extract of the yellow sea bream during dehydration was not found. In the extract of dried product, lysine, alanine, glutamic acid and arginine were dominant holding $18.4\%,\;14.7\%\;8.0\%\;and\;7.3\%$ and $7.3\%$ of total amino acids respectively. The amount of total free amino acids of the yellow sea bream increased to more than 1.4 times during dehydration process, that of raw sample especially aspartic and glutamic acids increased to more than 2.9 times and 2. 1 times whereas taurine and histidine decreased ranging $40-50\%$ of the original content. It is presumed that the characteristic flavor of dried yellow sea bream was attributed to such amino acids like lysine and alanine known as sweet compounds, glutamic acid as meaty taste and TMAO known as plain sweet taste.

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the relationships among perceived life stress, self-esteem, and depression in middle-aged women. Methods: Data were collected from March 30 to May 25, 2000. The study subjects were 123 middle-aged women living in Pusan. The instruments used for this study were the Perceived Life Stress scale developed by Lee (1984), based on the original scale designed by Yu, et al. (1994), Self-esteem scale developed by Rho, et al. (1997), and the Depression scale developed by Ahn (1988). For data analysis, the SPSS PC+ was utilized, by which frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficients were examined. The reliability of the instruments were tested by Cronbach's $\alpha$, showing the internal consistency of 0.7328 for the self-esteem scale. and 0.8987 for the depression scale. Results: 1) The results showed a relatively low perceived life stress score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 363.18 and 72.92 (range: .00 - 1877.38). 2) The results showed a relatively high self-esteem score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 29.77 and 5.06 (range: 10 - 40). 3) The results showed a relatively high depression score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 39.46 and 9.38 (range: 0 - 61). 4) There were no statistically significant differences in perceived life stress by demographic related factors. 5) There were statistically significant differences in self-esteem by health status (F=8.930, p= .000) and economic status (t=4.792, p= .010). 6) There were statistically significant differences in depression by age (F=3.770, p= .0261). education (F=4.850, p= .003) and regularity of menstrual cycle (F=13.180, p= .000). 7) There was no statistically significant correlation between perceived life stress, and self-esteem in the middle-aged women (r=-.077, p= .399). 8) There was no significant correlation between perceived life stress. and depression in the middle-aged women (r= .010, p= .916). 9) There was a significant negative correlation between self-esteem, and depression in the middle-aged women (r=- .359, p= .000). Conclusion: Higher self-esteem was related to a lower depression status. Therefore, it is necessary to elevate the level of self-esteem in order to reduce the level of depression in middle-aged Korean women.
Throughout the world, interest in issues relevant to energy, resources, environment, etc, is ever soaring. Therefore, the restoration of modern architecture that fulfilled its epochal function is working as a cultural, historic medium. In addition, it also plays its role in the side of environmental approach and so on. Moreover, the museum, which was only used for the possession of art collections and exhibition purposes, is currently expanding its scale and range as the center of culture and education. Also in reality, with the use of various programs, it is globally pursuing urban vitalizations. This study looks at the meaning of modem architecture restoration as well as its relationship with urban area. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to look for design method's direction by finding the relevance between modem architecture restoration and museum during the restoration. This study is based on transformation and preservation scale during the restoration of modern architecture. It analyzed plane and design direction. Additionally, this study analyzed the architectural and regional effect caused by restoration. As a result, in accordance with the direction of museum and the usage, scale, structure as well as superficial aging condition of previous architecture, it shows difference in design methods in the process of restoration. The exterior of architecture was restored and preserved to its original form in order to show the symbolical form through historical value. This is essential to the modern museum. On the other hand, the interior of architecture put more value on utilization concept that its preservation and thus was restored accordingly. However, in all the cases, previous architecture were commonly used and even when alterations and additions were made due to aging and their change in usage, they were restored in a way that preserved and harmonized previous architecture. If the design method for restoration of modern architecture selects the restoration method by considering problems related to location, building value, structure, if it is studied from various angles and is restored after considering its usage as a museum, then we will be able to generate cultural and historical synergy effect. Furthermore, apart from architecture, it will have great impact on urban vitalizations.
Removing noise, called denoising, is an essential factor for the more intuitive and more accurate results in boundary image matching. This paper deals with a partial denoising problem that tries to allow a limited amount of partial noise embedded in boundary images. To solve this problem, we first define partial denoising time-series which can be generated from an original image time-series by removing a variety of partial noises and propose an efficient mechanism that quickly obtains those partial denoising time-series in the time-series domain rather than the image domain. We next present the partial denoising distance, which is the minimum distance from a query time-series to all possible partial denoising time-series generated from a data time-series, and we use this partial denoising distance as a similarity measure in boundary image matching. Using the partial denoising distance, however, incurs a severe computational overhead since there are a large number of partial denoising time-series to be considered. To solve this problem, we derive a tight lower bound for the partial denoising distance and formally prove its correctness. We also propose range and k-NN search algorithms exploiting the partial denoising distance in boundary image matching. Through extensive experiments, we finally show that our lower bound-based approach improves search performance by up to an order of magnitude in partial denoising-based boundary image matching.
The purpose of the paper is to enable a format transcoding between a heterogeneous compression format in a real time, and to enhance the compression ratio using characteristics of the compressed frame. In this paper, for the heterogeneous format transcoding, we tried to transcode from MPEG2 having a lower compression ratio to H.263 having a higher compression ratio. After analyzing MPEG 2 bit stream and H.263 bit stream of the same original video, we found that the number of intra coded macro blocks in MPEG 2 data is much higher than the number of the intra coded macro blocks in H.263 data. In the process of P frame generation, a intra coded macro block is generated when a motion estimation value representing the similarity between the previous frame and current frame does not meet a threshold. Especially the intra coded macro block has a great impact on the compression ratio. Hence the paper, we tried to minimize the number of intra coded macro blocks in H.263 data stream which is transcoded from MPEG 2 in a compressed domain. For the purpose, we propose a guided search method for transcoding the INTRA coded block into INTER coded block using the information about motion vectors surrounding the intra macro block in order to minimize the complexity of the motion estimation process. The experimental results show that the transcoding of MPEG 2 into H.263 can be done in a real time successfully.
Most of low cost digital cameras reveal relatively high lens distortion. The purpose of this research is to compensate the degradation of image quality due to the geometrical distortion of a lens system. The proposed method consists of two stages : calculation of a lens distortion coefficient by a simplified version of Tsai´s camera calibration and subsequent image warping of the original distorted image to remove geometrical distortion based on the calculated lens distortion coefficient. In the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a practical method for handling scale factor ratio and image center is proposed, after which its feasibility is shown by measuring the performance of distortion correction using a quantitative image quality measure. On the other hand, in order to apply image warping via inverse spatial mapping using the result of the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a cubic polynomial derived from an adopted radial distortion lens model must be solved. In this paper, for the purpose of real-time operation, which is essential for embedding into an information device, an approximated solution to the cubic polynomial is proposed in the form of a solution to a quadratic equation. In the experiment, potential for real-time implementation and equivalence in performance as compared with that from cubic polynomial solution are shown.
