This study was conducted to help oriental medical prevention program policy for improvement of public health in a local community. We have researched respiratory diseases and demands for oriental medical cold preventing therapy of some residents in Chung-Buk. We have conducted individually face-to-face interviews through standardized questionnaires to 141 residents of two towns (76 in Haeng-jung, 65 in Gu-mi) under the jurisdiction of Chung-won Public Health Center. The senior aged over 65 was 53.9%, which was a little more than the average senior age. The rate which could be diagnosed as a disorder of lung function was 2.97% by Lung Function Test. The participants diagnosed as Asthma accounted for 17.9% by Symptom Based Easy Asthma Diagnosis of Easy Asthma Management(EAM). The participants who had intentions of participating in oriental medical cold preventing therapy accounted for 58.6%. And among the oriental medical cold preventing therapy the preference for acupuncture and moxibustion was 77.1 %, which was much higher than any other thing. It is thought that people still have little understanding about the oriental medical cold preventing therapy. Therefore it is considered that the Korean government should try to establish well-organized cold preventing system on the basis of Oriental Medical theory for a local community.

There are few case reports on the treatment of churg strauss syndrome by oriental medicine. We experienced one case of a female patient, 47 ages, who had symptoms; Rt. hemiplegia, aphasia, M/S dull, Rt. facial palsy. We used acupuncture, physical therapy, herbal medication and taping therapy. After 6 months of Acupuncture therapy, Herbal medication, physical therapy and taping therapy, a remarkable improvement was made for cerebral infarction patient who accompany churg strauss syndrome. The patient could take self-ambulation after treatment and many symptoms have improved. Cerebral infarction patient who accompany churg strauss syndrome is not common ,but in case the treatment by korean traditional medicine, there was improvement in patient's state. We think that it need the further study and clinical practice for Churg Strauss Syndrome.

Objectives The aim of this review is to investigate clinical studies for manual therapy on Temporomandibular Joint Disorder and to propose for the better method of studies in the future. Methods We investigated recent clinical studies for manual therapy on Temporomandibular Joint Disorder via searching Pubmed, KISS, KISTI, KERIS, KMBASE and National Assembly Library. 21 domestic and overseas articles were analyzed and the journals, the authors, the published years, countries, methods, periods, techniques of chiropractic, outcome measures, and purpose of those articles were examined. Results Studies on manual therapy were mainly published via Cranio. The diagnostic criteria that most frequently adopted in the overseas articles were research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders, The technique of chiropractic that most frequently adopted in the articles was passive traction and translation of TMJ. Many of the studies were researched for effectiveness of the manual therapy as the secondary treatment. Conclusions Reviewing the recent clinical studies for manual therapy on temporomandibular joint disorder and figuring out the strong points and weak points of those studies are necessary to future studies. It is anticipated that this review would benefit the in-depth treatments for temporomandibular joint disorder in terms of Korean medicine.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical effects of low level laser therapy on shoulder pain. Methods : From October 1, 2009 to November 14, 2009, we applied 15 participants who consented to an assignment had a shoulder pain to low level laser therapy(LLLT). We treated LLLT 8 times on both upper trapezius, levator scapular, pectoralis, suboccipital, rhomboid, rotator cuff tender point for 2 weeks. To evaluate the efficiency of low level laser therapy, we used questionnaire of shoulder pain symptom, questionnaire of a day living discomfort scale, shoulder pain and disability index(SPADI) and pressure pain threshold(PPT) at before treatment and after treatment 4 times and 8 times. Results : There was a significant difference in questionnaire of shoulder pain symptom, questionnaire of a day living discomfort scale, SPADI and PPT after 8th treatment. Conclusions : Low level laser therapy for shoulder pain is effective to improve patients' symptoms measured with questionnaire of pain and a day living discomfort score, SPADI and PPT significantly.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical effects of heating-conduction acupuncture therapy on anterior talofibular ligament injury induced by acute ankle sprain. Methods : From October 31, 2008 to July 21, 2009, the 11 outpatients who had admitted to department of oriental rehabilitation medicine, Dae-Jeon oriental medicine hospital, Dae-Jeon university with acute ankle sprain were performed heating-conduction acupuncture therapy on anterior talofibular ligament injury. To evaluate the efficiency of heating-conduction acupuncture therapy, pain threshold with Pressure algometer and visual analogue scale(VAS) were applied before treatment and after 1st, 2nd treatment. Results : 1. The pain threshold score and the VAS score showed statistical significant improvement after 1st treatment. 2. The pain threshold score and the VAS score showed improvement but had no statistical significance after 2nd treatment. 3. The difference between left and right were not statistical significant in pain threshold score and VAS score. Conclusions : Heating-conduction acupuncture therapy has clinical effects of pain reduction on patient with anterior talofibular ligament injury induced by acute ankle sprain.

Objective : Traumatic lumbar burst fracture causes significant spinal cord injury. This report is intended to estimate the efficacy using oriental treatment on a patient with lumbar burst fracture and spinal cord injury. Methods : From 21th December, 2009 to 5th February, 2010, 1 female inpatient diagnosed with lumbar burst fracture and spinal cord injury was treated with general oriental medicine therapy : mae-sun therapy ; acupuncture ; moxibustion ; pharmacopuncture ; physical therapy and herbal medication. TUG, SCIMII and VAS were used for evaluation of gait disturbance and pain in both feet. Measurement of self voiding amount and remaining amount through CIC was used for evaluation of neurogenic vesical dysfunction. Results : The patient showed a certain degree of improvement in gait disturbance, pain in both feet and neurogenic vesical dysfunction through above evaluation methods. Conclusion : Oriental treatments such as mae-sun therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy and herbal medication can be effective for spinal cord injury due to traumatic lumbar burst fracture.

Objective : Stroke is the most frequent cause of death in Korea. Because it remains severe disablities disturbing normal life, it is important to carry out intervention preventing from progression of condition in patients with acute ischemic stroke within therapeutic time window. Thus early western intervention is necessary and beneficial for patients with acute stroke. However its therapeutic efficacy is not known in combination with Sasang Constitutional medical therapy. In this study, we investigated the clinical effect of East(Sasang Constitutional Medicine)-West integrated therapy. Methods : Among 54 patients with acute onset of stroke no later than seven days, 34 patients received East(Sasang Constitutional Medicine)-West integrated therapy and 20 pateints received West medical therapy. We estimated the subjects's status with Sasang Constitutional Symptomatic Scale (SCSS) prior to therapy and at 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks after the starting each therapy. Results : There is no significant difference in SCSS between two group from admission to 1 week. But significant difference was observed after 2 weaks. Conclusion : The results of these investment suggest that East(Sasang Constitutional medicine)-West integrated therapy is more effective in Sasang Constitutional Pathology.

In this study, we tried a study on a direction of the field of oriental medicine on accepting complementary alternative medicine by analyzing the related thesis, journals and papers on the complementary alternative medicine published in the field of oriental medicine. As the result of analyzing the present study of the field of oriental medicine on the complementary alternative medicine, there have been 22 studies on the complementary alternative medicine. Thesis, papers were mainly experimental papers about the bee venom therapy, energy therapy, fasting therapy, and colon therapy, and the journals were actively studied in order of clinical paper, experimental paper, and reference paper about the bee venom therapy, energy therapy, and reflexolgy. The acceptance of complementary alternative medicine by the field of oriental medicine through a scientific relation should be conducted more systemically by setting the main academy taking charge of the study on common characteristics of the complementary alternative medicines on the classification of NCCAM as well as the related academies taking charge of the study on the unique characteristic of each complementary alternative medicine. First, additional studies are needed to make the most of characteristics of each complementary alternative medicine through the main academy and the related academies, and for the next, additional studies are necessary to complement the research trend on each complementary alternative medicine through the main academy and related academies.

Purpose : In order to estimate clinical effects of Oriental Medicine Treatment with acupotomy therapy of Peroneal nerve Palsy. Methods : From 10th June, 2010 to 19th June, 2010, 1 female patient diagnosed as Peroneal nerve Palsy(clinical diagnosed) was treated with general oriental medicine therapy (acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibustion, cupping, physical therapy, herbal medication) and acupotomy. Results : The patient's left foot drop was remarkably improved. Conclusions : This study demonstrates that oriental medical treatment with acuputomy therapy has notable effect in improving symptoms of peroneal nerve palsy. as though we had not wide experience in this treatment, more research is needed.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Juglandis Semen Herbal Acupuncture Therapy on Chronic Shoulder Pain. Methods : Clinical studies on shoulder pain were carried out on 34 patients who were treated at Department of Acupuncture & Moxibusition, Samse Oriental Hospital from June 1, 2009 to October 15, 2009. Subjects were divided into two groups: Experimental group(Group A, n=17) and Control group(Group B, n=17). Group A were treated by common acupuncture therapy, cupping therapy and Juglandis Semen Pharmacopuncture Therapy and Group B were treated by common acupuncture therapy & cupping therapy. All patients in both groups were treated three times a week over 3 weeks. For evaluating change of pain, we used Shoulder Pain and Disability Index(SPADI), Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Degree of feeling inconvenient in everyday life and Degree of subjective symptoms of shoulder pain. Evaluations were made at baseline and after one week, two weeks and three weeks of treatment. Results : Both group showed chronic shoulder pain decrease after 3 weeks of treatment. But Group A showed better effect on decreasing SPADI, VAS, Degree of feeling inconvenient in everyday life and Degree of subjective symptoms of chronic shoulder pain than Group B. Conclusions : According to the above-mentioned results, it seems that Juglandis Semen Pharmacopuncture Therapy could be applied as the effective method for reducing shoulder pain.
