본 논문은 3차례의 양방적 수술 치료를 받은 후에도 지속적으로 요통과 함께 하지 방사통을 호소하며 일상생활 수행에 장애가 따르던 70세 여환에 대한 증례로 침구치료, 약물치료, 추나치료, 봉약침치료 등의 한의학적 보존적 치료방법으로 통증의 감소와 함께 일상생활 능력 개선에 유의한 효과를 보였다. 향후 요추 추간판 탈출증 환자의 한방적 보존적 치료에 대한 보다 다양한 연구와 임상적 고찰이 이루어져야 한다고 사료된다.

Purpose: The purposes of this study is to provide basic informations on oriental medical research and treatment through analysis of breast cancer patients, who visited M $\mu$ integrative cancer center, O O university East-West neo medical center. Methods: Electronic medical records of 106 breast cancer patients who visited oriental medical center from June 2, 2006 to February 28, 2008 were selected to collect clinical data of those patients. Clinical data were analyzed for types of clinical characteristics, and received therapies. For analysis of survival and recurrence, Kaplan-Meier method was used. All the data were processed and analyzed using SPSS version 13.0. Results: Average age of breast cancer patients, who visited oriental medical center was 48.72 ($\pm$10.13). The stage distribution record indicated stage I (5.8%), stage II (7.0%), stage III (5.8%), and stage IV (81.4%). Original purposes of patients were analyzed to be supplementary treatment for western therapy (68.9%), treatment for recurrence prevention (18.9%), and oriental medical treatment (12.2%) in order. While receiving oriental medical treatment, 60.4% of patients received conventional medical treatment simultaneously. Conclusion: Majority of patients who visited oriental medical hospital were stage IV at terminal stage and mainly visited for the purpose of supportive care. Further clinical study of breast cancer patients is needed to validate the effectiveness of oriental medical treatment based on this study.

Objectives : These studies are designed to make a survey of the effectiveness of the non surgical decompression treatment. Methods : These studies 15 cases of L-spine herniated lumbar intervertebral disc(HIVD) which was treated with non surgical spinal decompression and other medicine treatment(acupuncture, cupping, interferential current therapy, ultra-sound therapy and hot poultice). Each patient has been treated with spine decompression and other medicine treatment. And degree of improvement has been evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire score for low back pain. Results and Conclusions : Through the results, the medical treatment proved to have valid effect for L-spine HIDV. And further clinical studies comparing non surgical spinal decompression treatment and other medicine treatment is necessary.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment withMelonis Calyxvomiting therapy for sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL).Methods : We experienced one case of SSNHL treated with oriental medical treatment(acupuncture, herbal medicine) andMelonis Calyxvomiting therapy(MCVT). MCVT is a traditional treatment, which induces vomiting by eatingMelonis Calyxpowder with water. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we measured the hearing recovery, decrease of tinnitus and vertigo. The degree of hearing improvement was evaluated by Siegel's Criteria. Decrease of tinnitus and vertigo was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS).Results : The pure tone 5 frequency average improved by 39㏈(marked recovery, from 64㏈ to 25㏈). VAS of tinnitus decreased from 10 to 1, and vertigo decreased from 4 to 0.Conclusions : This study suggests that using MCVT with oriental medical treatment is effective on SSNHL.

Objectives : This study was designed to report the effect of Korean traditional treatment and progressive muscle relaxation for insomnia. Methods : We treated two patients scored more than 15 point at insomnia severity index by korean traditional treatment and progressive muscle relaxation. Results : After treatment, sleep duration and sleep quality was improved. Insomnia Severity Index, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score were decreased. Conclusions : We may conclude that korean traditional treatment and progressive muscle relaxation is effective in patients with insomnia.

Idiopathic scoliosis is a complex three-dimensional deformity of the spine. There is two ways in treatment of scoliosis, normally. In order to prevent a progressive course of the disorder, conservative treatment is started in selected patients. And sometimes, operation is performed to severe patients. But, application standard is vague. So We reviewed the latest medical theses. English language articles in Medline database between 2003 and 2005. 8. 31. were reviewed. The searching words was Idiopathic scoliosis, conservative treatment, brace. exercise. We classified 27 articles. The results of this research demonstrate that conservative treatment is more effective than observation until operation.

This study was performed to report the effectiveness of oriental medical treatment on a patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome complaining both lower extremity weakness. The patient was diagnosed as Guillain-Barre syndrome and treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, physical therapy and herbal medicine. We have evaluated the efficacy of oriental medical treatment by measuring changes of motor grade and ambulatory condition according to period of hospitalization. After treatment, motor grade and ambulatory condition were improved. These results suggest that oriental medical treatment was effective on the patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the improvement after oriental medical treatment of partial tear of supraspinatus tendon. Method: We treated 2 patients having shoulder pain due to partial tear of supraspinatus tendon with Oriental medical treatment, including Sa-am acupuncture DaeJang-Jeonggyeok, A-shi point(阿是穴) and herbal medicine. We checked visual analog scale (VAS) score and range of movement (ROM). Results: We treated shoulder pain. Thereafter ROM improved and V AS score dropped to the level of 2 to 4 points from 10 points at onset. Conclusion: This report shows Oriental medical treatment has effectiveness on partial tear of supraspinatus tendon. Follow-up study is needed.

Schizophrenia is a frequent psychotic disorder. Recently many studies raised biochemical theory as a cause of schizophrenia. But in this case, we used psychosocial treatment and oriental medical treatment, without antipsychotic drugs for 4 months, obtained good results. Practicing psychosocial treatment, we were able to remove anxiety and fear of the patient. In addition positive symptoms, for example auditory hallucination and delusion, were improved. Schizophrenia conforms to JEONKWANG(癲狂) in oriental medicine. We concluded this case to JEONJUNG(癲證) due to QIULDAMHWA(氣鬱痰火). So we used herbal medication and acupuncture according to oriental medical theory and these efforts helped the care of disease.
