본고에서는 역대 본초서(本草書)의 간행(刊行)을 통해 본초학(本草學)이 역사적 변천 과정을 거치면서 어떻게 발전해 왔는지를 주제로 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 각 시대별로 가장 특징적인 본초서를 위주로 대표적인 본초 명저의 간행과 이것이 의미하는 시대적 특징과 본초학적 발전상을 요약하였다. 아울러 대표 명저 중 우리 의학에 도입되어 깊은 영향을 끼친 본초서의 흔적과 조선판의 간행 사항을 조사하여 소개함으로서 한국한의학에 미친 영향성을 알아보았다.

Purpose : This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of the different administration duration of Epimedium Herb extract solution on the spermatogenic abilities such as concentration, motility and morphological normality of sperm from the testis and the activities of sperm hyaluronidase. Methods : We used the 2-month-old mice and administered the extract solution of Epimedium Herb 0.3 ml/g/day for 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. The control group was administered the normal saline as the same way. We examined the number of total, motile and normal sperm from the cauda epididymis, the activities of sperm hyaluronidase. Also we observed changes of isolated testis before and after administration of Epimedium Herb extract solutions in the mice. And we compared the testicular tissue especially seminiferous tubules with the control and treated group by histochemical methods. Results : The significant differences were observed in the concentration of total sperm and normality of spermatozoa of the Epimedium Herb extract solution administered groups compared to the control group in 60, 90 and 120 days groups. The significant differences were observed the motility of the Epimedium Herb extract solution administered groups compared to the control group in 60 days group. In the histological analysis of the testicular tissues, the enlargement of testicular lobe diameter and apparent vasculogenesis between testicular lobes were observed in the Epimedium Herb extract solution administered groups compared to the control group, respectively. And the activity of hyaluronidase was significantly increased in the Epimedium Herb extract solution administered groups compared to the control group. Conclusion : This study shows that Epimedium Herb has the beneficial effect on the concentration, morphology and motility of sperm, the testicular tissues and the activities of sperm hyaluronidse in 60 days administration group. We can suggest that Epimedium Herb extract solution be useful for the treatment of male sexual dysfunction and infertility.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the frequency of side effects, and the range of the side effects from Korean herb medicine on children. Methods: The study has been carried out from 212 children who took Korean herb medicine in Department of Pediatrics, $\bigcirc\;\bigcirc$ Oriental Medical Hospital from September 2009 to February 2010. The study was completed through patients chart review and telephone survey. Results: 1. There were 6 side effect cases on male, and 3 side effect cases on female out of 212 children. The incidence of side effect was 4.2%. 2. The most common side effect was abdominal pain. The most common related organ was digestive organ. 3. The side effect occurred within one to three days after taking Korean herb medicine, and the symptoms were mostly disappeared after taking the Korean herb medicine into divided dose or less dose. Conclusions: The symptom of side effects on children was not as severe as other adverse drug reactions often seen in Western medication. The most common symptom was abdominal pain. Further studies are needed.

Purpose : The purpose of this paper is to report the effect of oriental medicine to primary infertility caused by uterus unicornis. Methods : The patient in this case, 30 years-old female was treated with herb medication(Sosihotang, Gyejibokryeonghwan) for one month. Before oriental treatment, she had been diagnosed as primary infertility caused by uterus unicornis in Samsung Cheil Hospital and treated medication and injection for IUI(intrauterine insemination) in 2 times. But she had failed in gestation. Results : After taking herb medication she became pregnant. Conclusion : According to this result, we concluded that herb medication could improve fertility rate. After this paper, further study and clinical approach based on oriental medicine will be needed about infertility caused by uterus unicornis.

The purpose of this study is standardization of herbology terminology. For a long time, it was important problem that the Oriental Medicine didn't have standardization of terminology. For this reason, development of oriental medicine has been slow. We studied how we search methods of herb efficacy by the use of terminology table. In this way, we will suggest basic data and helpful methods of standardization of Oriental Medicine terminology.

1. Purpose : Clinically I have studied efficacy of herb treatment and development of herb growth palpation about handicapped children for growth. 2. Methods : 165 patients who visited hospital from January, 2000 to January 2001 3. Results : Average growth of children who visited hospital was less than 4cm but boys have grown 9.8cm/year and girls grown 7.8cm/year at average after treatment by herb. 4. Conclusion : In case of decreasing growth to have get less growth hormone, it has confirmed positive effectiveness by herb treatment even if it is normal.

Through the sociological approach on the Oriental Medical Insurance, 1 has reflected on the necessity and propriety of the Herb-pack Medicine Insurance, what the government and the Oriental Medicines as the main organization of it should think about. So I come to the conclusion as follows ; First, medical sociological approach must precede the study on the Herb-pack Medicine Insurance and in the process concrete, political problem must be solved. Second, although the Oriental Medicines has a different way from the Western Medicines, it comes to take up a part of health service field with its independent efforts. And coming changes count on whether the Oriental Medicines exert independently or not. Third, due to the original limit of the Oriental Medical Insurance, it has little effect on the Oriental Medicine Service's popularization and development. Yet bit gives the opportunity to present where the Oriental medicines should go and the way to develop it is the practice of the Herb-pack Medicine Insurance. fourth, so it can be said that the practice of the Herb-pack Medicine Insuranceis our important plan which can not only make the Oriental Medicines improve as the professional jods but also solve the contradiction of the Korea Medicines

Objectives : This study has been done to know which herbs and herbal formulae are frequently used for the treatment of obesity in Korea and overseas since 2000. Methods : We conducted a computerized literature search in KISS (Korean studies Information Service System), Pubmed, Journal of Oriental Association for Study of Obesity ,and Journal of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine(2000 -Apr. 2006) using search key words obesity, obese, weight loss, weight control combined with herb, herbal formula. Result and conclusion : Seventy-two studies have been identified(50 Korean papers and 22 pubmed papers) and 81 herbs have been found. In USA it was mainly used as single herb for food, but in Korea it was mainly used as herbal formula. For single herb, ephedra(麻黃) was the most studied single herb both in Korea and the USA. For herbal formulae, Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM, 19times) was the most frequently used herbal formula, in which the herbs for Tae-eum type person like Taeyeumjowui-tang(太陰調胃湯, 7times) and Choweseungcheng-tang(調胃升淸湯, 5times) were mainly prescribed. The next was Chegameuiin-tang(體減薏苡仁湯, 11times) and Bangpungtongsungsan( 防風通聖散, 3times). Calculating each herb consisted in each herbal formula, Coicis Semen(薏苡仁), Angelicae gigantis Radix(當歸), and Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Raspberry Ketone, Cnidii Rhizoma(川芎), and Ephedra Herba(麻黃) turned out to be the most frequently used herb.

Objectives : This study was designed to propose the effective herb-processing method of Ginkgo Folium in the Oriental medicine. Methods : The books, papers and patents were used to examine the recent usage of Ginkgo Folium. Results : The toxic ingredients of Ginkgo Folium should be removed. Accordingly, a detoxification process using a nonpolar solvent and a vinegar-roasting process in sequence are desirable to assure its safety. The previously developed standard extract (e.g. EGb 761) could be used as a powdered Oriental medicine as well. Conclusions : Ginkgo Folium could not be used widely to treat the diseases in ancient Oriental medicine, because the toxic ingredients could not be removed by any method until recent year. However, Ginkgo Folium might be used as a herbal medicine that invigorates the blood without any difficulty using herb-processing methods suggested in this paper.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analysis of the herb medications corresponded with neuropsychiatry of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun". Methods : The herb medications of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong(上.中.下統) and "Enlargement side prescriptions" (增補方) are selected by comment on the chief virtue including reference word of corresponded with neuropsychiatry. Results and Conclusion : "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" is a book most people who have a background or career in Han Medicine(韓醫學) would pore over. They corresponded with neuropsychiatry among the herb medications of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong(上.中.下統) are 55 prescriptions that Sang-Tong(上統) is 8 prescriptions, Jung-Tong(中.統) is 23 prescriptions and Ha-Tong(下統) is 24 prescriptions. And the herb medications corresponded with neuropsychiatry of "Enlargement side prescriptions" (增補方) are 40 prescriptions. And then the herb medications corresponded with neuropsychiatry of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" received much influence from "Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam". Incidentally the herb medications corresponded with neuropsychiatry of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong showed the high percentage in Neurosis. And the herb medications corresponded with neuropsychiatry of "Enlargement side prescriptions" showed the high percentage in Psychosis. Besides not only put "Enlargement side prescriptions a premium on "Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam", but also made it the herb medications which were recorded on books flowed after "Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam" known. It was entered up books quoted from "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong but the herb medications were that were not succeeded from "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong. Therefore "Enlargement side prescriptions" shows the efforts for supplement of "Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun" Sang.Jung.Ha-Tong.
