  • This article is to investigate the development of seamanship and the art of ship building, marine environment, Silk Road through the sea, and spice exchange at the trade growth of Song Dynasty. For better understanding marine environments, I exemplified what goes before such essential factors as experience and skills in maritime activities. I also demonstrated that South Song Dynasty's abundant economic strength and foreign opening strategy had been supervised systematically through the trade management organization and noted that the nation's overseas exchange had made great effects on its society. The import of the perfume provided the cause where the western influence occupies the orient in the same time when it is a keychains of the orient and the western interchange. For this reason, perfume, which once contributed 1/20 of the revenue, enlarged its portion to 1/10 of the revenue. This indicates the influence of perfume on the national finance in the Song period.

  • Effects of Taeumjowetang on Lipid Peroxidation by Free Radicals and Oxidative Damage of Hepatocytes by tert-Butyl Hydroperoxide. 1. Purpose The present study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant effects of Taeumjowetang in vitro. 2. Methods In this study, antioxidant effects of TJT on lipid peroxidation were determined according to the method of TBA. (Abbreviation) TJT : Taeumjowetang, TBA : 2-thiobarbituric acid. 3. Results : 1) TJT inhibited markedly peroxidation of linoleic acid during the autoxidation. 2) TJT inhibited lipid peroxidation induced by hydroxyl radical derived from H2O2-Fe2+ in rat liver homogenate. 3) TJT showed 66% scavenging effect on DPPH radical. 4) TJT exhibited a 25% inhibitory effect on superoxide generation from xanthine-xan thine oxidase system. 5) To investigate the antioxidative effects of TJT on the hepatocytes, cultured normal rat liver cells(Ac2F) were prepared and incubated with or without TJT. After 16~18hr, cells placed in DMEM medium without serum, and then incubated with 1mM t-BHP for 2hr. Viable cells were detected by MTT assay. In this test, TJT protected the cell death induced by t-BHP and significantly increased cell viability in the normal rat liver cell. (Abbreviation) DPPH : ${\alpha},{\alpha}$-diphenyl-${\beta}$-picryl hydrazyl, DMEM : Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium, t-BHP : terr-butyl hydroperoxide, 4. Conclusion These results suggested that TJT might play a protective role in lipid peroxidation by free radicals.

  • Schizandrae Fructus has been used for controlling respiratory allergic or inflammatory diseases in folk medicine and their components, schizandrin, schizandrin-A and gomisin-A were reported to have diverse biological effects. In this study, we investigated whether schizandrin, schizandrin-A and gomisin-A affect adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-induced mucin secretion from cultured airway epithelial cells. Confluent primary hamster tracheal surface epithelial (HTSE) cells were metabolically radio labeled using $^{3}H-glucosamine$ for 24 h and chased for 30 min in the presence of varying concentrations of each agent to assess the effects on $^{3}H-mucin$ secretion. The results were as follows: 1) schizandrin significantly inhibited ATP-induced mucin secretion; 2) However, schizandrin-A and gomisin-A did not affect ATP-induced mucin secretion, significantly. We conclude that schizandrin can inhibit ATP-induced mucin secretion by directly acting on airway mucin-secreting cells. Therefore, schizandrin should further be investigated for the possible use as mucoregulators in the treatment of inflammatory airway diseases.

  • Graph databases have been developed to efficiently store and query graph data composed of vertices and edges to express relationships between objects. Since the query types of graph database show very different characteristics from traditional NoSQL databases, benchmarking tools suitable for graph databases to verify the performance of the graph database are needed. In this paper, we propose an efficient graph database benchmarking system that supports diversity in graph inputs and queries. The proposed system utilizes OrientDB to conduct benchmarking for graph databases. In order to support the diversity of input graphs and query graphs, we use LDBC that is an existing graph data generation tool. We demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme through analysis of benchmarking results. As a result of performance evaluation, it has been shown that the proposed system can generate customizable synthetic graph data, and benchmarking can be performed based on the generated graph data.

  • Experimental and theoretical works were performed for the separation of large polyelectrolyte, such as DNA, in a column packed with gel particles under the influence of an electric field. Since DNA quickly orient in the field direction through the pores, this paper presents how intraparticle convection affects the residence time distribution of DNAs in the column. The concept is further illustrated with examples from solid -liquid systems, for example, from chromatography Showing how the column efficiency is improved by the use of a n electric field. Dimensionless transient mass balance equations were derived, taking into consideration both diffusion and electrophoretic convection. The separation criteria are theoretically studied using two different Peclet numbers in the fluid and solid phases. These criteria were experimentally verified using two different DNAs via electrophoretic mobility measurements. which showed how the separation position of the DNAs varies in the column in relation to the Peg/Pef values of an individual DNA. The residence time distribution was solved by an operator theory and the characteristic method to yield the column response.
