  • Highly stable organic electroluminescent devices have been achieved by treatment of thermal and electrical annealing. We investigate here the performance of theses devices at temperatures and pulse aging. We also demonstrate improved device stability due to thermal and electrical treatment, and the brightness decays at no treatment, thermal only, electrical only and thermal/electrical treatment were 86.6%, 89.5%, 93.0%, and 96.7%, respectively, in the after 150 h of operation driven with an initial luminance of $1,000\;cd/m^2$.

  • We present that the electroluminescence (EL) efficiency can be improved by doping an electron transport layer (ETL) with organic materials which can make electron current increase. The electron transport layer of aluminum tris(8 -hydroxyquinoline) (Alq3) is doped with 2-(4-Biphenylyl)-5-(4-tertbutylphenyl)- 1,3,4-oxadiazole) (butyl-PBD) to enhance the electron mobility of the ETL. The higher quantum efficiency of device having ETL using Alq3 doped with butyl-PBD can be attributed to the improved electron and hole balance.

  • A novel data driver for passive matrix organic lightemitting devices (PM-OLEDs) with high gray scale images was designed. The proposed circuit consisted of a main current bias circuit as well as sample & hold circuits in each channel of the data driver to compensate a current offset. These results indicate that a data driver designed by using the current offset compensation technique holds promise for poten tial applications in PM-OLED displays with high gray scale images.

  • In this work, we have compared OLED devices made of blended MEH-PPV/Ruburene mixture and MEH-PPV/Rubrene bi-layer structure devices. The emission layers were made with two different ways - one with gravure printed single layer of blended mixture of MEH-PPV and rubrene, the other with gravure printed bilayers of MEH-PPV and rubrene. Both brightness and efficiency with gravure printed bi-layer devices were higher than blended devices. In this work, we demonstrated that organic bi-layers can be formed with gravure printing technology and higher efficiency can be achieved with bi-layer structure than with blended single layer structure.

  • We have fabricated vertical type organic thin film transistor using tris-8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum $(Alq_3)$. The effects of the growth control of $Alq_3$ thin layer on the grain structure and the flatness of film surface have been investigated. In addition, we have fabricated light emitting transistor and then investigated electroluminescent properties.

  • A top emission organic light emitting diode comprising of a triple anode on polycarbonate $film/TNATA/NPB/Alq_3:C545T/cathodes$ has been fabricated. The triple layer structure of Cr/Al/Cr allowed for fabrication of a crack-free anode and provided better higher work function than ITO anode. The anode showed compatibility with flexible plastic substrate and no crack was formed during bending test while ITO anode showed crack.

  • This study was based on organic electroluminescence display. Especially, TPD and $\alpha-NPD$ for the hole transport materials were synthesized by Ullmann reaction. This reaction was conducted between 3methylphenylamine, 1-naphthylamine and 4,4'-diiodobiphenyl in toluene containing CuCl catalyst and KOH base. The structural property of reaction products were analyzed by FT-IR, $^1H-NMR$ spectroscopy, and thermal stability, reactivity and PL property were analyzed by melting point, yield and emission spectrum, respectively. The photoluminescence spectra of a pure TPD and $\alpha-NPD$ were observed at approximately 416nm and 438nm respectively. In this study, it was known that the melting point, yield, PL properties of TPD and $\alpha-NPD$ were changed by substituent group of amines.

  • Doosan Mecatec has developed alignment system for Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display production using large size substrate. In the present article, The alignment system between the substrate and the mask, which is a core technology for producing the OLED product using the fourth-generation substrate with $730{\times}920mm^2$ or more, will be described by dividing into a substrate loader, a magnet unit, a CCD camera, etc. The substrate loader is optimized through the simulation where the central portion of the substrate droops by about 1.5mm by clamping each of a long side (920mm direction) and a short side (730mm direction) thereof by 6 point and 4 point. A magnet unit using a sheet type of rubber magnet is constituted and a CCD camera model with the specifications capable of minimizing the errors between a clear image and the same image is selected. The system to which an upward evaporation technique of small molecular organic materials will be applied has been developed so that repeatability and position accuracy becomes ${\pm}1{\mu}m$ or less using an UVW type of stage. Also, the vision accuracy of the CCD camera becomes ${\pm}1{\mu}m$ or less and the align process TACT becomes 30sec. or less so that the final alignment accuracy between the substrate and the mask becomes ${\pm}3{\mu}m$ or less. In order to meet an extra-large glass substrate, an evaporation system using an extra-large AMOLED substrate has been developing through a vertical type of an alignment system.

  • Photo-induced memory effect of an organic light-emitting diode(OLED) composed of a hydrazone-derivative(DBAH) dispersed in bis-phenol-A type polycarbonate polymer(PCA) in the presence of thio-Michler's ketone, was investigated by the measuring of the current density and luminance at the various conditions. After the light exposure, the current of the OLED was decreased approximately one order, and the luminance of the OLED also decresed. This memory effct was erasable by heating the OLED to the temperature higher than the glass transition temperature(Tg). As shown in this result, we found the memory effect was erased by heating and returned to its original state in the hole injecting layer(HIL) of the OLED. A series of these phenomena was suggested the possibility of the application to the imaging plate.

  • Here we report another soft lithography, peel-off method, for patterning conductive polymer anodes in the fabrication of flexible ITO-free organic light-emitting diodes. This method doesn't require any heating process and UV light. We have demonstrated that such a peel-off technique enables the formation of a very sharp edge and the enhancement of edge roughness.
