  • An organic light-emitting diode(OLED) has advantages of low power driving, self light-emitting, wide viewing angle, excellent high resolution, full color, high reproduction, fast response speed, simple manufacturing process, or the like. However, there are still a number of challenges to get over in order to put it to practical use as a high performance display. First of all, the most important thing is to improve the efficiency of the OLED element in order to commercialize it. To this end, its efficiency can be improved by lowering the driving voltage through the improvement of structure of the OLED element and the application of new organic substance. Therefore, in this study, we have manufactured a red OLED element by applying fluorescent dyes to the emitting layer of the element having the structure of ITO/TPD/ Znq2+DCJTB /Znq2/Al and the structure of ITO/CuPc/NPB/ Alq3+DCJTB/Alq3/Al, in order to light-emitting various colors or improve the brightness and the efficiency, and then we have evaluated its electrical and optical characteristics.

  • Characteristics of indium-zinc-oxide (IZO)-Ag-IZO multilayer grown on a PET substrate were investigated for flexible organic emitting diodes. By inserting very thin Ag layer between amorphous IZO, IZO-Ag-IZO (IAI) multilayer anode exhibited remarkably reduced sheet resistance and high transmittance due to the surface plasmon resonance effect and Ag layer.

  • Effects of a dielectric capping layer on the luminous characteristics of top emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs) have been analyzed using a classical electromagnetic theory. Special attention was given to the influence of the cavity length on the effectiveness of the capping layer. The luminance characteristics of the TOLEDs influenced by the combined effects of the cavity length and the capping layer thickness. Furthermore, these combined effects also modify the emission spectrum and pattern of the TOLEDs, which result in the improvement of total luminance of the device, but no significant change in the device out-coupling efficiency.

  • Top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (TEOLED) was fabricated on flexible substrate of PES film. Aluminum and Chromium multilayer was used as an anode of TEOLED and the TEOLEDs of Cr(20nm)/Al(100nm)/Cr(20nm)/NPB(60nm)/Alq(60nm)/LiF(1nm)/Al(2nm)/Ag(20nm)/NPB(200nm) has been fabricated on PES film and Si wafer for control device. The TEOLED on PES film which had good anode surface morphology, showed very similar device characteristics to that on Si wafer.

  • In this report, high-performance organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) buffer layer are demonstrated. Compared with conventional buffer layer, copper phthalocaynine (CuPc), Teflon film shows lower absorption in the wavelength from 200nm to 800nm The OLEDs with Teflon and CuPc buffer layer were fabricated under same conditions, and the device performances were compared. The results indicate that when the thickness of Teflon is 1.5nm, the performance of OLEDs is greatly enhanced with an efficiency of 9.0cd/A at the current density of 100mA/$cm^2$, while the device with an optimized 30-nm-thick CuPc buffer layer only shows an efficiency of6.4cd/A at the same current density.

  • Highly efficient blue organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) utilizing the idea of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc)/N,N'-bis-(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl,1,1'-biphenyl- 4,4'-diamine (NPB) composite hole transport layer (CPHTL) have been fabricated. The effect of inserting CPHTL upon the performance of blue OLEDs with 2-methyl-9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene (MADN) as the blue emitter has been investigated. Compared with the luminous efficiency of the standard blue device without CPHTL (1.33 cd/A), that of the device with 40:60 CuPc/NPB CPHTL has been increased by more than twice up to 2.96 cd/A with a Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of(x = 0.15, y = 0.10) and a power efficiency of 1.46 lm/W (20 mA/$cm^2$) at 6.39 V. The increased device efficiency is attributed to an improved balance between hole and electron currents arriving at the recombination zone.

  • Iridium-(III)-bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinate-N,$C^2$' ]picolinate-based blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes with different electron transport materials were fabricated. Each electron transport material had different electron mobilities and triplet energies. The device with 1,3,5-tri(m-pyrid-3-yl-phenyl)benzene had the highest external quantum efficiency (20.1%) and luminous current efficiency (33.1 cd/A) due to its high electron mobility and triplet energy. The operational stability of each device was also compared with that of the others. The device with 2,2',2"(1,3,5-benzenetriyl)tris-(1-phenyl-1H-benzimidazole) was found to have a longer lifetime than the other devices.

  • A new pixel driving method for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) flat-panel display (FPD) is proposed. The new charge-pump passive-matrix pixel driver consists only of a storage capacitance and a rectifying diode, and no thin-film transistor (TFT) is needed. The new driver not only supplies a constant current to the OLED throughout the whole period of panel scanning like an active-matrix driver, but also provides a highly linear gray-scale control through a pure digital manner.

  • The variation of the electrical characteristics of thin-film transistors (TFTs) causes a non-uniform image quality problem, and the differential aging of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices causes an image-sticking problem. A video data correction method is proposed herein as an effective solution to the non-uniform electro-optical characteristics of the pixels in activematrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays. The results of the simulation that was conducted show that the proposed method successfully senses the electrical characteristics of TFTs and the degradation of OLEDs and effectively compensates for them.
