수소기질 결핍 및 공급 기간비 변화에 따른 슬러지 입상화 (Sludge Granulation Depending Hydrogen Feeding on The Varying Periods of Hydrogen Feeding and Starvation)

  • Granular sludge formation and it's activity change are the most important factors in achieving successful start-up and operation of UASB reactor. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanism is still unknown. On the basic of the experiments in laboratory-scale UASB reactor, the effect of hydrogen partial pressure on sludge granulation was evaluated. Size distribution method and specific metabolic activity of the sludge with the operation time were used as a means for estimating the degree of the sludge granulation. At the constant hydrogen loading, the granulation increased as starvation periods in hydrogen supply increased, resulting in high organic removal efficiency. It was evidient that hydrogen play very important role in granulation and sludge granulation was achieved through mutual symbiosis between hydrogen utilizing bacteria and hydrogen producing bacteria under the hydrogen dificient conditions. Microflora Management in the Gastrointestinal Tract of Piglets

  • The stressful physiological and environmental conditions around weaning often promote the proliferation of pathogens in the digestive tract of piglets resulting in diarrhoea and reduced daily weight gain. Typical dietary practices to maintain growth performance and health have led to an increased use of antimicrobial growth promoters. Due to the advanced ban of antibiotics in pig production, new concepts have been developed to secure animal health and growth performance, feed efficiency, and product quality as well. Several naturally occurring compounds seem to beneficially affect the composition and activity of the microflora in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of pigs. These are, among others, organic acids, probiotics, prebiotics, and enzymes. Organic acids are already widely used, especially in pigs, due to their positive effects on GIT health and growth performance. Probiotics have been shown to be effective against diarrhoea though effects may be dependent on diet composition and environmental conditions. Prebiotics may influence composition and activity of the intestinal microflora. Additionally, pre- and probiotics may exert positive influences on immune response, whereas enzymes may enhance feed digestibility by breaking down anti-nutritional factors. In the following, the focus will be directed to the role of organic acids, probiotics, prebiotics, and feeding enzymes as potential modulators of GIT health.

Variation in trophic pathways and food web characteristics revealed by stable isotopes in an intermittent stream system of the Inukami River, Japan

  • To examine variation in trophic pathways and the characteristics of food webs from organic matters to aquatic insects, we used stable isotopes to study an intermittent stream system of the Inukami River, Japan. The aquatic insects, including Glossosoma spp., Chironominae spp., Stenelmis spp., Rhyacophilla nigrocephala, and Hexatoma spp., were characterized by different feeding strategies. The ${\delta}^{13}C$ values for these species indicated that Glossosoma spp. graze upon periphyton; Chironominae and Stenelmis spp. mainly feed on benthic particulate organic matter, and R. nigrocephala and Hexatoma spp., which were identified as predators, feed upon Glossosoma, Stenelmis, and/or Chironominae spp. This suggests that the trophic position of consumers at each station may be determined by the trophic position of basal food sources in situ. For trophic pathways, the ${\delta}^{13}C$ values for both organic matter and aquatic insects tended to gradually decrease, whilst the ${\delta}^{15}N$ values increased from the upper reach to the lower reaches, relative to the physicochemical and geographical conditions. These parameters indirectly influence the flow of energy from organic matter to consumers within food web in an intermittent stream system.

무안만 초입 인근 갯벌의 대형저서동물 분포 특성 (Distribution of Macrobenthos at the Mudflat in the Mouth of Muan Bay)

  • 대형저서동물은 갯벌에서 우점을 차지하고 있으며, 저서환경을 유지하고 환경을 정화하는데 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있다. 퇴적환경에서 유기물 함량은 저서동물의 서식, 먹이행동, 생존 등에 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 연구에서는 무안만 초입의 목포연안 인근갯벌(목포지역과 압해지역)에서 유기물 함량과 저서동물 분포 특성에 대해서 조사하였다. 목포지역은 압해지역에 비해 높은 유기물 함량을 보였으며, 오염지표종인 Musculista senhousia가 우점을 차지하였다. 무안만 초입 인근 갯벌에서 대형저서동물의 분포는 퇴적층 유기물 함량과 유의적 상관관계를 나타내며 두 지역으로 나누어졌다.

Vermicomposting 에 의한 유기성 폐기물의 처리 (Treatment of Organic Waste by Vermicomposting)

  • A study was made to investigate the possibility of treating various organic waste of cattle manure, swine manure, goat manure, apple pomace, chinese medicine residue and coffee less by feeding these to earthworms and then by studying the growth and reproductive efficiency of earthworms, and the chemical composition of worm cast and its production. The results are summarized as follows. 1. When the feed for earthworms were in good condition which were cattle manure, swine manure and apple pomace, the reproductive efficiency of earthworms was improved however in worse condition the feed of which were goat manure and chinese medicine residue, the increasing rate(IR) became faster. 2. Despite the high content of organic matter(OM) in coffee lees, the earthworms fed coffee lees showed significantly lower reproductive efficiency and increasing rate(IR) than those fed other organic waste due mainly to its lower pH and lower total nitrogen(TN) content. Therefore, when coffee lees is considered to be fed to earthworms, it is believed necessary to be mixed with addiveves or other organic waste in order to improve the feed condition. 3. pH in swine manure, goat manure, apple pomace, chinese medicine residue and coffee lees became neutralized by being fed by earthworms. 4. Available P2O5 and exchangeable cation(EC) of earthworm cast were a little increased compared to those of feed. The contents of Mn, Fe and Cu in earthworm cast were a little decreased to compared to those of feed. 5. The contents of Mn, Fe and Cu in earthworm cast were a little a decreased to compared to those of feed. 6. Mean fresh weight of earthworm at final time(FW2) was negatively correlated with number of young worms(NY)(P<0.01), but positively with increasing rate(IR) (P<0.001) and C/N ratio(P<0.05) respectively. Number of cocoons (NC) and fresh weight of cocoons(WC) were positively(P<0.01) correlated with fresh weight of young worms (WY) and digested matter(DI) but negatively(P<0.001) correlated with residual matter(WY) and digested matter(DI) but negatively(P<0.001) correlated with residual matter(RW). Number of young worms(NY) and fresh weigh of young worms(WY) were negatively(P<0.001) correlated with increasing rate(IR), however increasing rate(IR) of earthworm was positively(P<0.05) correlatedd with C/N ratio.

Effects of Dietary Supplemented Inorganic and Organic Selenium on Antioxidant Defense Systems in the Intestine, Serum, Liver and Muscle of Korean Native Goats

  • The present study was designed to assess whether dietary inorganic and organic selenium (Se) could affect antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of lipid peroxidation, in the intestine, serum, liver, and gastrocnemius muscle of Korean native goats. A total of eighteen Korean native goats was allotted into three dietary groups, consisting of basal diet (CON), or basal diet with either 0.25 ppm inorganic (IOSEL) or 0.25 ppm organic Se (ORSEL), and fed the corresponding diets for 5 wks. Growth performance, including body weight and total gain, and blood biochemical profiles, including GSH-Px, were not significantly different between the three dietary groups. Also, the specific activities of SOD, GSH-Px, and GST, and the level of MDA in the intestinal mucosa and liver from goats were not substantially affected by either inorganic Se or organic Se. However, goats fed the diet containing organic Se showed a significant increase in GSH-Px and GST activities in the gastrocnemius muscle compared with those fed the basal diet. In conclusion, increased muscle GSH-Px and GST activities suggest that dietary organic Se may affect, at least in part, the antioxidant defense system in muscle of Korean native goats under the conditions of our feeding regimen.

유기사료 급여가 거세한우의 성장 및 도체특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Feeding Organic Feed on the Growth and Carcass Characteristics of Hanwoo Steers)

  • 본 연구는 유기사료 급여가 거세한우의 성장 및 도체 특성을 구명하고자 거세한우 30두에 대한 사양시험 결과는 다음과 같다. 1, 거세한우에 대한 유기 조사료 및 농후사료 급여 시 관행구에 비해 유기구의 발육성적은 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았으나 사양시험 종료 체중이 유기구의 T1 및 T2의 581.5kg 및 573.3kg으로 관행 597.5kg에 비해 $2.7{\sim}4.1%$ 감소하였다. 2. 일당증체량에 있어서는 유기구인 T1 및 T2의 0.80 및 0.78kg에 비해 관행구는 0.83kg으로 통계적인 유의차는 인정되지 않았으나 대조구에 비해 일당증체량이 $3.6{\sim}6.0%$ 감소되었다. 3. 도체등급에 있어서 1등급이상 출현율은 관행구 T1이 50%이었고 유기구인 T2 및 T3이 각각 50% 및 70%이었다. 4. 등심부위에 대한 관능검사 결과 다즙성, 연도, 향미는 관행과 유기구간 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이상의 실험결과를 종합해 볼 때 유기건초 및 유기 옥수수사일리지 위주의 양질 조사료 사육과 볏짚 위주의 일반 관행사육 간에 성장 및 도체특성에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았으나 양질 조사료를 급여한 유기구에서 근내지방도가 개선되는 경향을 보였다.

가정에서 발생한 서로 다른 종류의 음식물 쓰레기가 줄지렁이(Eisenia fetida)개체군의 섭식 및 생장에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of different food-wastes of household on the feeding rate and growth rate of Eisenia fetida(Annelida: Oligochaeta) population)

  • 국내의 4인 가족 가정의 음식물 쓰레기 발생량을 염분이 가미된 것과 염분이 가미되지 않은 것으로 구분하여 조사하였고, 음식물 쓰레기를 염분이 가미되지 않은 채소류, 곡류, 과일류, 염분이 가미된 음식물 쓰레기로 구분하여 줄지렁이에게 공급하면서 지렁이의 섭식량 및 증식률을 조사하였다. 음식물 쓰레기량은 1가정 1주당 3,200 g(1인당 1일 0.114 kg)이었고, 그 중 염분이 가미되지 않은 것은 전체의 53.9%인 1,723.8 g 으로 나타났다. 함수율 70%를 가정하였을 때 채소류, 곡류, 과일류의 염도는 각각 0.60, 036, 0.33%이었고, 염분이 가미된 음식물 쓰레기의 염도는 0.78%이었다. 채소류, 과일류에서는 지렁이의 섭식은 잘 이루어졌으나 증체율이 낮았고, 곡류에서는 상대적으로 섭식량은 낮았지만 증체율이 높았다. 함수율 70%인 먹이의 염도가 0.6% 이상인 경우에는 지렁이의 섭식과 생장이 현저하게 둔화하였고, 0.3%인 경우에는 섭식은 정상적으로 이루어졌으나 생장이 약간 저해되었다. 따라서 염분이 가미된 음식물 쓰레기는 전처리과정 없이는 지렁이 처리가 불가능하며, 염분이 가미되지 않은 음식물 쓰레기는 지렁이 처리가 용이한 것으로 나타났다.

  • 벌꿀의 정미성분(呈味成分)으로 생각되는 amino acid, 유기산(有機酸), 당(糖)의 종류(種類)를 검색(檢索)하고 각(各) 각(各)을 정량(定量)하였던 바 당(糖)의 양(量)과 조성(組成)은 벌꿀의 종류(種類)에 따라 큰 차이(差異)가 보이지 않고 다만 사양(飼養)꿀에서 sucrose의 양(量)이 다소 높았으며, amino acid는 그 함량(含量)과 종류(種類)가 토종(土種)꿀에 가장 많고 주(主)가 되는 amino acid가 사양(飼養)꿀, 피나무꿀은 proline인데 비(比)하여 토종(土種)꿀은 isoleucine이었다. 그리고 유기산(有機酸)의 함량(含量)은 사양(飼養)꿀이 가장 많고, 주(主)가 되는 유기산(有機酸)은 토종(土種)꿀이 oxalic acid, citric acid이고 피나무꿀은 lactic acid, 사양(飼養)꿀은 succinic acid 이었다.
