  • Wave run-up is an important issue in offshore engineering, which is tightly related to the loads on the marine structures. In this study, a series of physical experiments have been performed to investigate the wave run-up around a vertical cylinder in transitional water depth. The wave run-ups of regular waves, irregular waves and focused waves have been presented and the characteristics in frequency domain have been investigated with the FFT and wavelet transform methods. This study focuses on the nonlinear features of the wave run-up and the interaction between the wave run-up and the cylinder. The results show that the nonlinear interaction between the waves and the structures might result wave run-up components of higher frequencies. The wave run-ups of the moderate irregular waves exhibit 2nd order nonlinear characteristics. For the focused waves, the incident waves are of strong nonlinearity and the wavelet coherence analysis reveals that the wave run-up at focal moment contains combined contributions from almost all the frequency components of the focused wave sequence and the contributions of frequency components up to 4th order harmonic levels are recommended to be included.

  • In this paper, a new first-order shear deformation beam theory based on neutral surface position is developed for bending and free vibration analysis of functionally graded beams. The proposed theory is based on assumption that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components, in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces and, likewise, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. The neutral surface position for a functionally graded beam which its material properties vary in the thickness direction is determined. Based on the present new first-order shear deformation beam theory and the neutral surface concept together with Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. To examine accuracy of the present formulation, several comparison studies are investigated. Furthermore, the effects of different parameters of the beam on the bending and free vibration responses of functionally graded beam are discussed.

  • Configuration is a set of building block processes, a series of selection and combining parts or components which composes a whole thing. A whole thing could be such a configurable object as manufacturing product, network system, financial portfolio, system development plan, project team, etc. Configuration problem could happen during any phase of product life cycle: design, production, sales, installation, and maintenance. Configuration has long been one of cost and time consuming work, because only high salaried technical experts on product and components can do configuration. Rework for error adjustments of configurations at later process causes far much cost and time, so accurate configuration is required. Under the on-line electronic commerce environment, configuration problem solving becomes more important, because component-based sales should be done automatically on the merchant web site. Automated product search, order placement, order fulfillment and payment make that manual configuration is no longer feasible. Automated configuration means that all the constraints among components should be checked and confirmed by configuration engine automatically. In addition, technical constraints and customer preferences like price range and a specific function required should be considered. This paper gives an brief overview of configuration problems: characteristics, representation paradigms, and solving algorithms and introduce CRSP(Constraint and Rule Satisfaction Problem) method. CRSP method adopts both constraint and rule for configuration domain knowledge representation. A survey and analysis on web sites adopting configuration functions are provided. Future directions of configuration for EC is discussed in the three aspects: methodology itself, companies adopting configuration function, and electronic commerce industry.

  • This study was tried to evaluate possibilities for discriminating the mixture degree of wheat flour from buckwheat products. Buckwheat was milled into four grades of powder, i.e. whole grain flour (WGF), inner layer flour(ILF), middle layer flour(MLF) and outer layer flour(OLF)), and these powders were mixed with wheat flour(WF) to make mixed samples. Ash, protein and fat contents of the buckwheat flours were high in the order of OLF=WGF>MLF>ILF. On the other hand, WF showed a similar content to OLF in ash and protein, and to ILF in fats. Potassium and magnesium contents were higher in all the buckwheat powder than in the wheat flour. Flavonoid contents were higher in order of OLF>WGF=MLF> ILF, but it was not in wheat flour. Although the reliable correlation between mix ratio and components, i.e. mag nesium or ash analyzed were found, it did not seem to reflect sufficiently the expected variations of contents of original material components. Also, compositions of commercial buckwheat products were analyzed to evaluate the mixed ratio of buckwheat flour and wheat flour. The results suggest that the components analyzed in this study as putative marker were not good in determining whether or how much buckwheat products contained wheat flour.

  • Service industry has become the integral part of economy. And the activation of industry requires a scientific and systematic approach. As one of these kinds of efforts, IBM presented a service model which consisted of strategies, processes, technology, manpower and so on through Service Science. And IBM raised the needs of considering the main issue and methodology of service model's scientific approach. On that account, this study worked out factorial definitions and measurable items by the four components of service model presented by Service Science in order for it to be measured through studies on related literature and interviews of specialists. In order to prepare an opportunity of categorizing the conception of the service model of which character was strongly intangible and of systematically approaching to it, the investigator examined related literature and applied it QFD methodology. Through this kind of redefinition, the investigator concretely conceptualized the service model which was standstill at the level of theoretical approach so far and presented guidelines with which researchers could classify it more concretely. In addition, the investigator tried to present a systematic frame which could be applied to business by working-level officials or decision-makers. Therefore, the investigator expects that study findings will be used as references for the design or implementation of service-oriented business model.

  • The growing popularity of the Internet has caused the size and complexity of communications and computing systems to greatly increase in recent years. To alleviate this increased management complexity, novel autonomic management architectures have emerged, in which many automated components manage the network's resources in a distributed fashion. However, in order to achieve effective collaboration between these management components, they need to be able to efficiently exchange information in a timely fashion. In this article, we propose a context dissemination framework that addresses this problem. To achieve scalability, the management components are structured in a hierarchy. The framework facilitates the aggregation and translation of information as it is propagated through the hierarchy. Additionally, by way of semantics, context is filtered based on meaning and is disseminated intelligently according to dynamically changing context requirements. This significantly reduces the exchange of superfluous context and thus further increases scalability. The large size of modern federated cloud computing infrastructures, makes the presented context dissemination framework ideally suited to improve their management efficiency and scalability. The specific context requirements for the management of a cloud data center are identified, and our context dissemination approach is applied to it. Additionally, an extensive evaluation of the framework in a large-scale cloud data center scenario was performed in order to characterize the benefits of our approach, in terms of scalability and reasoning time.

  • Presently, abrasive processing is on eof several methods for cutting and grinding brittle materials, and high quality in dimensional accuracy and surface roughness are often required as a structural components, therefore most of them has to be ground. In manufacturing of tungsten-carbide components, grinding by diamond wheel is usually adopted in order to provide configurational and dimensional accuracy to the components. The present study proposes the experi- mental research of optimum condition to the high quality surface grinding of the WC-Co material using diamond abrasive wheel in order to minimize the damage on the ground surface and to pursue the precise dimension by conventional grinding machine. Brief investigation is carried out to decrease the dressing is constant, theoretical grinding effect such as machining precision is changed according to the speed of workpiece. Accordingly, normal and tangential grinding forces, which are Fn, Ft were analyzed for the machining processes of WC-Co material to obtain optimum grinding conditions, 3-point bending test is carried out to check machining damage on the ground surface layer, which is one of sintered brittle materials.

  • Purpose - This study aims to establish the relationships among brand equity, brand attitudes, and Visual Merchandising (VMD) in bakery stores. The results will help bakery franchisees and franchisers in devising appropriate strategies for successfully managing their bakery shops. Research design, data, and methodology - The VMD model for bakery shops comprises harmony, attractiveness, suitability, pandemic, functionality, and reliability. Further, brand equity encompasses brand awareness, perceived quality, and brand image. In this study, the VMD factors of bakery shops are used as independent variables, while brand equity and brand attitude are used as dependent variables. This study aims to ascertain the extent of the influence VMD components of bakery shops have on brand equity and brand attitude. Regression analysis was used to verify those effects. The measurement items, deemed reliable and valid in a previous study, were modified for this study. Questionnaires were distributed to 500 consumers nationwide, of whom 340 were used for the sample. The SPSS 19.0 statistical program was used for the analysis. Results - First, among the VMD bakery shop components, harmony, attractiveness, and pandemic have a positive impact on brand equity (brand awareness and brand image). Second, amongst the VMD components of bakery shops, attractiveness, pandemic, and reliability have a positive impact on brand equity (perceived quality). Third, amongst the VMD components of bakery shops, harmony, attractiveness, and reliability have a positive impact on brand attitude. Fourth, brand equity (brand awareness, brand image, and perceived quality) have a positive effect on brand attitude. Conclusions - This study identifies the relationships between the VMD components of a bakery shop and brand equity and attitude in order to propose a new model. The study has several practical implications. First, the development of brand equity and management can be important components in bakery shops' determination of whether their VMD components have an impact on brand equity. Second, among VMD components, harmony and attractiveness have a positive influence on the choice of bakery shop, while reliability and pandemic have a partly positive influence on the choice of bakery shop. Therefore, store atmospheres should be attractively designed, and store menus and interiors should be reviewed periodically to conform to the latest trends. This study suggests marketing strategies for brand equity formation. First, providing collateral product quality, hygiene, and safety benefits as well as product offerings to complement the season and employees' services should be considered. Second, display methods, illumination designs, and new product ideas should be periodically reviewed. Third, these should complement the overall harmony of the interior and exterior and of the store atmosphere in order to be attractive. Funds should thus be dedicated specifically for the facilities and their interiors. Fourth, it is necessary to build a friendly and relaxed image that can be easily called to mind by the customers.

  • In order to clarify the anti-Ohyul activity of rhubarb, we investigated the effects of water extract from rhizomes of four different rhubarb on blood platelet aggregation induced by arachidonic acid, ADP, collagen and PAF in vitro. The cultivated Korean rhubarb rhizomes (Rheum undulatum) exhibited the most potent inhibitory action on the aggregation induced by arachidonic acid and also among the four fractions, stilbene components containing part showed strong inhibitory action. These inhibitory effect may partially contributed to anti-Ohyul activity of rhubarb.
