Results : The fear will be higher when subjective oral health status is considered lower, the reliability of dental health care workers is lower(p<0.05). Evasion and overall fear, overall fear and stimulations of dental care, stimulations of dental care and overall feeling were related(p<0.05). Conclusions : The reliability of dental health care workers is lower and subjective oral health status is considered lower, the fear of dental care increase and everage number of brushing has increased, the fear of dental care decrease.
Objectives: To investigate factors related to scaling between Korean and multicultural families using data from the 18th Youth Health Behavior Survey (KYRBS), 38,320 Korean adolescents were selected as subjects. Methods: A complex sample cross-analysis was conducted on general characteristics and oral health characteristics using the IBM SPSS program. Factors related to adolescent scaling were analyzed using complex sample logistic regression analysis. Results: Compared to Korean families, adolescents from multicultural families had 0.50 times less scaling experience within 12 months. Learning achievement was 1.30 times higher in high compared to low, indicating that scaling experience was high. In terms of economic status, scaling experience was found to be high at 1.50 times in high compared to low. Non-smoking adolescents had 1.26 times higher scaling experience. It was found that adolescents who do not use dental floss and interdental brushes have 0.71 and 0.55 times less scaling experience, respectively. Conclusions: Based on the above results, there is a need to increase adolescents awareness of oral health and motivate them to manage their own oral care. There is a need to provide opportunities to participate in various oral health education programs and to deepen continuous oral health education on oral disease prevention.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of oral health education for occupational health nurses. The subjects were 300 occupational health nurses which participated in continuing education of Korean Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Oral health education contents consisted of basic knowledge about oral health, prevention of periodontal disease, oral health care for workers, and oral health program for workers. In order to evaluate the effects of oral health education, we performed questionnaire surveys before and after the education regarding their perceived oral health status and concern for oral health, knowledge about prevention of periodontal disease, attitude about oral health promotion, and needs for implementation of oral health promotion program. The data were analyzed by paired t-test to compare the change of knowledge and attitude according to the education. Linear regression analysis was carried out to assess the factors related to the improvement of their knowledge and attitude. The findings indicated that oral health knowledge and attitude of occupational health nurses were significantly improved by oral health education. A factor of the improvement of knowledge and attitude was concern for oral health. And they would like to be provided primarily oral health education for occupational health nurses. Finally, this study suggested that oral health education for occupational health nurses had significantly effects on improving oral health knowledge and attitude.
The purpose of this study was to examine the necessity of oral health education to analyze the knowledge and status of oral health according to smoking in some college students. The subjects in this study were 217 selected college students, on whom a survey was conducted from September 3 to September 7, 2013. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0(SPSS 19.0 K for window, SPSS Inc USA). The findings of the study were as follows: First, concerning toothbrushing frequency, the smokers brushed their teeth twice, and the nonsmokers did that three times(p<0.05). The male students did toothbrushing twice, and the female students did that three times(p<0.05). As to scaling experience, the female students got their teeth cleaned more often(p<0.05). Second, the nonsmokers who had received oral health education outnumbered the smokers who had(p<0.01). In regard to the necessity of smoking-related oral health education, both of the smokers and the nonsmokers replied it was necessary(p<0.05). Third, as for the level of oral health knowledge, the nonsmokers were more aware than the smokers that the use of oral hygiene supplies had an effect on the prevention of dental caries(p<0.05). Given the findings of the study, the smoking-related oral health education and the development of programs that are intended for college students seems necessary.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate oral health status, caries-inducing bacterial activity of the mental retardation students, and developing motivation method for improving oral hygiene management by clarifying the relationship between caries-inducing bacterial activity and oral health status of mental retardation students. Caries experience indices, caries susceptibility test, gingival health evaluation, and oral hygiene management and oral health survey were performed. Results were as follows : 1. The DMFT index of disabled students(12 years) was 2.07. 2. The gingival inflammation was occurred more frequently in older ages. 3. There also was a high positive correlation between caries incidences and the results of caries-inducing bacterial activity test especially in deciduous teeth. This result suggested that the Dentocult SM mutans test as a caries activity test is a reliable method for measuring the status of dental caries in mental retardation students. Because it would motivate the mental retardation students to care more actively for their oral hygiene if they learn how much dental caries-inducing bacteria are living in their mouth by observing the bacterial colony on the cultured test strip, it can become a possibly efficient educational tool for the mental retardation students.

Purpose: This study is to measure oral health literacy levels and to identify oral health literacy related factors in elders. Methods: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using convenience samples. Data collection was done by using a self-report questionnaire with 321 elders from three welfare centers for the aged and two senior centers located in three cities. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$, Pearson's Correlation Analysis and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 18.0 Program. Results: The oral health literacy scores of male elders were higher than those of female elders (t=9.73, p=.002). In hierarchical multiple regression analysis, education levels, smoking and oral health statuses were significant predictors and accounted for 29.8% of the male elders' oral health literacy. For female elders, education levels, health statuses and oral health statuses were significant predictors and accounted for 47.7%. Conclusion: These results suggest that interventions for improving oral health literacy are necessary to enhance elders' ability of self-care management. Also, these results could be used in developing oral health literacy programs.

Objectives: This study was conducted to analyze the dental care utilization patterns and related factors of the rural residents. Methods: The data collected by interview and self-administered questionnaire survey of 524 peoples of Seongju county in Gyeongsanbuk-do. The summarized results are as follows. Results: The rate of persons who experienced the oral disease was 52.5% during 1 year and it was at most in the age group of 40-49. The rate of persons who had experienced the oral disease were investigated according to general characteristics, perception of oral health, being of regular treatment facility. Therefore the rate of persons who had experienced the oral disease was significantly higher the younger peoples, worse oral health status and being of the regular treatment source than the other groups. During 1 year period, 64.0% of the cases had treated the perceived oral disease, 36.0% did no action at all during last year. Among respondents, 49.4% had treated their oral disease at dental clinics, 8.0% had treated at community health center or subcenter and remains did not treated at all. The results of logistic regression analysis suggested that statistically significant factors in dental health care utilization were educational level, degree of pain, oral health status and regular treatment facility. Therefore the dental health care utilization rate was higher at groups with the high educational level, serious pain, better oral health status and being of the regular treatment source than other groups. 45.5% of the rural residents did not treat their oral disease immediately due to the no identified need, limitation of time(19.2%), economic limitation(19.2%), and geographical limitation(9.0%). Conclusions: In consideration of above findings, we may conclude that oral health community program to prevent oral diseases should be intensified, oral health education to raise oral health knowledge should be performed periodically.
