Objectives: The aim of the study is to investigate the health belief model affecting the oral health behavior in middle and high school students. Methods: The subjects were 296 middle and high school students in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon from February 15 to March 21, 2014. The students filled out the self-reported questionnaires after receiving informed consents. The instrument was adopted and revised from those of Kim & Hwang, and Choi & Joo. The questionnaire consisted of 4 questions of general characteristics, 9 questions of oral health status including subjective oral health status, frequency of tooth brushing, duration of tooth brushing, method of tooth brushing, use of oral health devices, dental clinic visit, scaling services, snack intake, and smoking. The oral health belief consisted of 25 questions including susceptibility, seriousness, barriers, benefit, and self-efficacy using Likert 5 scale. The reliability of Cronbach's alpha in the study was 0.725. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver 18.0 for frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, simple regression, and binary logistic regression. Results: Oral health beliefs of middle and high school students affected the oral health behaviors. Susceptibility, barriers and self-efficacy also influenced on the oral health behaviors. In order to provide the best oral health education, susceptibility and self-efficacy are the primary factors to increase motivation because the motivation endows the students with correction of oral health behaviors that improve the knowledge, attitudes, and decrease barriers in oral hygiene. Conclusions: It is important to correct oral health behaviors in the middle and high school students by providing the continuing and systematic oral health education.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to provide resources to develop oral health education programs to make schoolchildren be able to do oral care behaviors voluntarily by analyzing the factors affecting elementary school students's oral health behaviors. Methods : A self administered questionnaire based survey was conducted with 233 students (117 boys, 116 girls) of sixth graders at Gyeonggi Province from September 1st to October 2nd, 2012. Researchers explained to willing participants the purpose of this study and then, asked respondents to complete their own questionnaire. A total of 233 questionnaires were properly completed while 7 questionnaires had insincere sections and were thus excepted. Results : 1. Children's higher level of oral health-related knowledge have more positive oral health attitudes(p=0.000) and oral health behaviors(p=0.001). 2. The higher oral health behavior mothers have, the more students have oral health knowledge and better oral health attitude, the higher the oral health behavior children have(p<0.01). 3. Students' positive attitude towards oral health(${\beta}$=0.548, p=0.000) and Mother's more attention to Oral check after tooth-brushing(${\beta}$=-0.149, p=0.005) were associated with children's sound dental health behaviors. Conclusions : The findings of this study suggest that the oral health knowledge, attitude and behaviors are associated with students' oral health behavior. Thus, effective support in oral health education, is need to be enhanced among the elementary school students rather than only focus on conveying knowledge to them. Since, mother's oral health-related knowledge and attitudes on the tooth-brushing behaviour and dental health of their children influence on child's oral health, the development of Comprehensive oral health education program into the mother and child needs to be carried out.
본 연구는 산업체 근로자의 구강보건 정의적 요인이 구강건강 행위와 구강건강 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 충북지역 산업체 5곳 100명을 대상으로 2018년 1월 19일부터 23일까지 단순무작위 표본추출방법으로 선발하여 설문지법으로 조사하였고, 자료분석은 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 빈도분석, 독립 T검정, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 구강보건 정의적 요인이 구강건강 행위에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 구강보건 실천의지가 높을수록 구강건강 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 산업장 근로자의 구강건강 행위와 구강건강 삶의 질을 증진시키기 위해서는 구강보건 정의적 요인을 변화 시킬 수 있는 효율적인 구강건강프로그램이 개발되어야 한다.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the extent of the health behaviors of juveniles with experience in drug and the extent of their oral health behaviors. Then the impact of such factors on the oral health was analyzed. Methods: The analysis in this study used the raw data from 'The Fifth Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey' after getting approval for use from the Center for Disease Control. The research subjects of this study were juveniles with experience in drug. Analysis was done by using 8 socio-demographic variables, 6 health behaviors related variables, 4 oral-health behaviors related variables and 1 oral health related variable. All survey data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 17.0 program. as frequency analysis and logistic regression. Results: The factors that give impact on the oral health of juveniles with drug experience were found as: gender, academic year, study grade, school type, school class, city scale, economic status, residential type, experience in alcohol, experience in smoking, obesity, frequency of medium-level physical exercise, eating breakfast frequency, hours of sleeping, number of tooth-brushing in one day, brushing teeth after lunch frequency, experience in dental treatment and experience in oral health training. Conclusions: In order to improve the oral health of juveniles with drug experience, health behaviors such as stop-smoking, stop-drinking and regular physical exercise are recommended. In addition, they should stop using drugs that threats their oral health. The development of nursing intervention to maintain the continuous enhancement of their oral health is also required.
Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the influencing factors of oral health behaviors according to oral health education experiences in middle school students. Methods : The subjects were 301 middle school students who lived in Gimhae and Jinhae. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS. Results : The group with oral health education experience had higher scores in oral health knowledge(p<.01) than the group without oral health education. The group with oral health education experience has higher scores in oral health behavior (p<.01) than the group without oral health education. The group with oral health education experience has higher scores in self-efficiency (p<.01) than the group without oral health education. The experience of oral health education shows positive correlation with oral health knowledge(r=0.184), oral health behavior(r=0.199) and self-efficiency(r=0.199). There existed a positive correlation between oral health knowledge and self-efficiency(r=0.351). Conclusions : It is necessary to provide oral health promotion program in middle school students. The importance of oral health care is closely related to oral health knowledge.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the correlation between health behaviors and experiences of oral diseases in Korean adolescents. Methods: This study used the results of the seventh, eighth, and ninth adolescent health behavior online survey which was completed by a self-administered questionnaire targeting 222,264 middle school and high school students in September, 2011, June, 2012, and from June to July, 2013. The questionnaire consisted of four questions of socio-economic characteristics of the subjects, three questions of health behaviors, and four questions of eating habits. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Oral health knowledge and behaviors were closely correlated to smoking, alcohol drinking, and toothbrushing after meal. Liking for fruit, soda, snack, and vegetable had a significant influence on oral diseases. Smoking and alcohol drinking had a significant relation to oral disease prevalence rate. Conclusions: In Korea, the prevalence rate of oral diseases is still high in the adolescents. Therefore, continuous dental health education program is very important to decrease the oral disease morbidity. The incentive program for the adolescents will improve the concern for the oral health.
The purpose of this study was to provide information about the development of curricula geared toward improving the oral health of college students and of oral-health education programs in an effort to teach college students to be knowledgeable about oral health throughout their lives. The subjects in this study were 455 students at three different colleges in Gyeonggi province, on whom a survey was conducted. As for the basic oral health care of the college students investigated, 54.5 percent had ever visited a dental clinic over the last year, and 34.7 percent had their teeth scaled over the last year. Regarding self-awareness of current oral health state, 77 percent felt there s something wrong with their oral health. Concerning the correlation of their oral health behavior and knowledge to each selected variable, better internal and external locus of control led to better oral health promotion behaviors and better oral health knowledge. As to their self-perception of oral health and influential factors, better toothbrushing, better dietary habits and periodical oral examination, which belonged to oral health promotion behaviors, were followed by better oral health locus of control, and higher concern for oral health led to better oral health locus of control as well. Better toothbrushing, better dietary habits, periodical oral examination and better internal locus of control were concurrent with higher interest in oral health. Better external locus of control and stronger concern for oral health were accompanied by better oral health promotion behaviors.
Objectives: The purpose of this study were to measure the effect of factors analyse the associated by the oral health behaviors and dental health services utilization factors of dental caries in the middle-school student's and then to provide basic material of preventive oral health and oral health education program. Methods: This subject of study consists of 342 middle schools each 1,2,3 grade Daegu city. The data were collected from July 2 to 30, 2009. by way of the self-reported questionnaire. The data materials are analyzed by demographic characteristics, oral health behaviors and dental health services utilization of frequency analysis, demographic characteristics of dental caries and oral health behaviors and dental health services utilization of one-way ANOVA analysis. Results: Brushing twice a day, which was the higher 69.3%, Students were trained received oral health education. Girls than boys dental caries teeth(DT) index (p<0.05), dental filling teeth(FT) index(p<0.00), dental experience caries teeth(DMFT) index(p<0.00) was higher than all three variables was a statistically significant. Oral health behavior of brushing twice a day 'once' dental caries teeth(DT) index was the highest, there was statistically significant difference (p<0.01), oral health education students experience a higher dental caries teeth(DT) index(p=0.36). dental health services utilization of preventive dental visits last one year when they did not have dental caries teeth(DT) index was higher (p=0.076) Conclusions: Oral health promotion is considered to adolescent as part of the oral health clinics school for elementary school students in the focus to middle school students and enhance.
Demand for appropriate health care has gradually increased in Korea. In addition, developments of community- and school-based oral health programs have also focused oral health care for the oral health promotion. Especially, school-based oral health programs are the underpinnings of promoting oral health and preventing oral diseases among schoolchildren. School-based oral health programs have had three major components: oral health education, oral health services, and a healthful environments. These included oral health education(one-to-one communication, group communication, and use of mass communication), oral examination, fluoride mouthrinsing, pit-and-fissure sealants, fluoride gel application, mechanical plaque control, and chewing xylitol candy. In this study, we evaluate the effects of oral health programs among primary schoolchildren by comparing the oral health knowledge, oral health behaviors, and perception of caries prevention procedures. Data for this study were obtained from 699 primary schoolchildren at the two primary school in Daegu, Korea. One is experimental group, N primary school, that was established school-based oral health center under supervision of Nam-gu Public Health Center, the other is control group, N' primary school, that was yet to establish school-based oral health center. We surveyed children's oral health knowledge and behaviors, and perception of caries prevention procedures using self-administrated questionnaire and then analyzed differences of each item among two groups. The brief findings of this study were summarized as follows. There are several advantage to a comprehensive school-based oral health program. (1) School-based oral health programs facilitate and increase the effectiveness of teaching oral health subjects. (2) Schoolchildren are available for prevention or treatment procedure. (3) School-based oral health center may be less threating than private dental clinic. (4) With comprehensive school-based oral health programs the decayed, missing, and filled teeth(DMFT) of schoolchildren should demonstrate a substantial and steady decrease over time(Choi et al, 2004). In conclusion, treatment is not the answer to solving children's oral health programs; rather primary prevention is the key. Many countries and communities are focusing on hoe millions of underprivileged children can be provided with health care. Schoolchildren gain the knowledge and behaviors to attain and maintain good oral health in schools. For these reasons, the role of school-based oral health center is not only important but also a necessity.
Background: The incidence of dementia in Korea is a serious social problem, as the number of patients with dementia is increasing with a decrease in the age of dementia onset dementia is associated with oral disease among various causes, but there is very low awareness of the relationship between dementia and oral health. Therefore, in view of the above, we aimed to check oral health promotion and dementia prevention behaviors and use them as basic data for preventing dementia. Methods: In this study, we conducted a month-long survey of people aged 40 years and above living in South Korea, and reclaimed 140 survey questionnaires. Frequency analysis was performed for the perception level of the relationship between dementia and oral health, and the demographic characteristics assessed according to the perception level. Independent t-tests were performed for the mean comparison between oral health promotion and dementia prevention behaviors. Correlation analysis was performed for the relationship between the three variables (oral health promotion and dementia prevention behaviors, the perception level of the relationship between them). Results: The results showed that groups with a high level of awareness of the relationship between dementia and oral health were more likely to develop oral health promotion and dementia prevention behaviors (p<0.01). In addition, the higher the level of awareness related to dementia and oral health, the greater the likelihood of oral health and dementia prevention behaviors (p<0.01). Conclusion: Therefore, we should try to improve dementia prevention and oral health promotion by providing accurate knowledge and awareness of the relevance between dementia and oral health.
