Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness-perception factors and oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene and nonhealth-related students in an effort to find out factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior. Methods : The subjects in this study were students in the three-year-course dental hygiene and students in the two-year-course nonhealth-related department in G college located in the city of Gwangju. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed and compared. Results : 1. The dental hygiene students were statistically significantly ahead of the nonhealth-related students in perceived oral health knowledge(p<0.001), awareness of the importance of oral health(p<0.001), perceived oral health status(p<0.001) and oral health interest(p<0.001). 2. Concerning the characteristics of oral health promotion behavior, the dental hygiene students were statistically significantly better at toothbrushing(p<0.001) and the use of dental floss(p<0.001) than the nonhealth-related students. 3. Regarding factors affecting oral health promotion behavior, oral health knowledge and oral health interest were identified as the factors that impacted on oral health promotion behavior. Out of the two, oral health interest exercised a greater influence on that. Conclusions : It seems that oral health education could motivate students to be concerned about their oral health, to acquire knowledge on that and eventually to change their oral health behavior and attitude. As for college students, oral health education provides a final chance for them to check their oral health knowledge, attitude and oral health promotion behavior before they start to work as full-fledged adults, and institutional measures should be taken to offer more intensive official oral health education.
Purpose. This study assessed the actual status of oral health behaviors, oral health consciousness and oral health belief with workers at work sites in some regions and would utilize the results of changes in the hygiene status in the oral cavity as basic materials for developing an education program for the oral health promotion of workers at work sites with the implementation of oral health education and oral health promotion program. Methods. The subjects of the study were 106 workers who expressed their intention to participate in a program in SMEs that agreed on the activities of an oral health education program through an education once per week, of the SMEs with less than 500 persons, located in G. City. General characteristics and the questionnaires of the items on the survey were investigated with a self-administered method, and the collected data were statistically analyzed, using SPSS 20.0. Results. As a result of research, it was noted that PHP-Index, the dental plaque index in the oral cavity became lower from 2.02 points to 1.00 point with continuous management and practice of oral promotion behaviors, and that the oral hygiene status improved. Conclusions. In order to promote the oral health of workers at work sites, substantially, it would be necessary to introduce an oral health promotion program they can practice themselves and through continuous education of oral health by assessing their consciousness and the actual status of their oral health behaviors, and it is expected that their oral health would be promoted ultimately by changing workers' oral health behaviors and consciousness.
This Convergence study aimed to analyze the oral health education, oral health awareness and oral health knowledge of early childhood education' students. Questionnaire survey on the of five universities early childhood education' 314 students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces. Average score of oral health awareness was 3.62, which was high female students, 3rd grade, athlete, high case on oral health condition perception and childhood oral health education experience. Oral health knowledge correct answer of 15 items was average 9.63, which was higher female students, 3rd grade, nonsmokers, have received childhood oral health education, responded to the need for childhood oral health education. Regression analysis showed that Y (oral health awareness) = 2.350 + 0.242 (exercise) +0.387 (oral health education) +0.134 (childhood oral health education experience) +0.067 (oral health knowledge). In order to promote infants oral health of department of Early Childhood Education, it would be necessary to develop the systematic programs to perform the childhood oral health education.
The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health care aware-ness of pregnant women and their actual oral health care in an effort to provide information on how to assist pregnant women to have the right knowledge on oral health and improve their oral health care. The subjects in this study were pregnant women who used obstetrics and gynecology hospitals or participated in pregnancy/child-rearing programs in the region of P. After a self-administered survey was conducted in July and August 2008, the following findings were given: 1. As for the best case of oral health care, the largest number(77.2%) of the pregnant women investigated brushed all the teeth, gums and tongue when they did toothbrushing. The smallest number of the women(6.8%) spent three minutes or more brushing their teeth. 2. As to dental treatment experience during pregnancy by age, 27.0 percent of the age 26-30 group had ever received dental treatment during pregnancy, which was higher than the rates of the other age groups with the same experience. 3. Regarding the necessity of oral health education geared toward pregnant women, 94.1 percent of the age 26-30 group and 96.3 percent of the group of age 31 and up felt the need for that, which were significantly higher than 72.7 percent of the age 20-25 group who agreed to the necessity of that education. 4. As to connections between oral health status and oral health care, the women who were in good oral health got 6.60 on oral health care. They scored significantly higher than those who were in a moderate state of oral health and who were in bad oral health, as the latter two groups respectively got 5. There was a significant correlation between oral health state and oral health care and between oral health knowledge and oral health care. The better oral health status led to better oral health knowledge, and the better oral health knowledge was followed by better oral health care. 6. As for factors affecting oral health care, oral health knowledge had the largest impact on that, followed by age, oral health status, experience of receiving oral health education for pregnant woman, dental treatment experience during pregnancy, monthly income and stress caused by oral diseases. Given the findings of the study, oral health education should be provided in light of the special physical and mental state of pregnant women. They should be encouraged to receive possible dental treatment during pregnancy if necessary, and they should learn about how to cope with a dental disease in case of develop it.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine whether the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults would affect their oral health indexes. It's meant to utilize existing data of epidemiological and alternative indexes in an effort to have a comprehensive and understanding of the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults. And the following findings were obtained Methods : The subjects in this study were 7,285 adults who were selected from the third-year(2009) raw data of the fourth national health & nutrition survey. Results : As for the relationship between oral health awareness and oral health indexes, there were statistically significant differences in DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index according to self-rated health status, self-rated oral health state, necessity of dental treatment and oral health concern. Concerning the relationship between oral health behavior and the oral health indexes, whether they got a dental checkup over the past year, daily toothbrushing frequency, use or nonuse of oral health supplies and mastication problems made statistically significant differences to DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index. The variables that had a significant impact on oral health were selected from among the variables of oral health awareness and oral health behavior that affected oral health, and the variables were selected as independent variables. And then the oral health indexes were selected as dependent variables, and a multiple regression analysis was carried out by using the selected independent and dependent variables. As a results, it's found that the variables made a 22.4% prediction of DMFT index; 51.3% for FS-T index; 52.0% for T-health index; 47.4% for CPI index. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings illustrated that the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of the Korean adults exercised an influence on their oral health indexes. Accurate and effective oral health plans should be mapped out by grasping the oral health status of adults from diverse angles to facilitate the maintenance and promotion of their oral health status.
This research carried out a survey for 569 students in a junior college of jeollanamdo to provide a needful basic data in developing suitable health promotion program and creating a direction of the oral hygiene education process to intial adult population after holding the oral cavity health action and a affecting factors to it. A collected data obtained the following conclusion. According to school grade, a difference of action factor is Chi-square and Pearson's correlation coeficient in actionfactor and acknowledgement-perception factor and a step-by-step recurrence analysis processed a related factor of the oral health action. 1. A related action factor of the oral health appeared meaningful difference of the oral cavity medical examination, the oral cavity clean device use or not, dental surgery prevention cure or not among the third grade who had the most experience of the oral hygiene education within one year recently. 2. A significant of the oral cavity health acknowledged and perceived and a concern of the oral cavity health, acknowledged the oral cavity health state distribution are the highest in the third grade. 3. According to monthly income, a large income is higher than a small income about self-effects in a relation between the oral cavity health action and acknowledgement-perception factor. the average of a large income is 30.59(${\pm}5.79$). The obstacle of the oral cavity health action is 12.51(${\pm}3.19$). a large income is highest. according to school career, under middle school layer obtained the highest average 16.33(${\pm}3.53$). according to a school year, acknowledge-perception factor of the oral cavity health control of the third grade is the highest(38.81(${\pm}6.25$). 4. Objectives : The purpose of this study is to opportunity of oral examination and positively utilizing the oral-health educational method of being preferred on the basis of the contents promote workers' oral health. Methods : This study carried out questionnaire research by self-administrated method, which was selected by convenience sampling method, from February 9th to March 6th, 2009 targeting 237 workers where are located in Gunsan city of Jeollabuk-do Province. Results : 1. Workers' interest and recognition of importance in oral health were high, and were low in subjective oral-health knowledge level, on the other hand. 2. Workers were indicated to be high in the response rate of work-site oral examination and, on the other hand, to be high in the dissatisfied rate at work-site oral examination. 3. As for work-site oral examination, the workers were indicated to positively recognize participation in work-site oral-health education along with high necessity. 4. Workers were indicated to prefer the most a method of lecture such as dentist along with contents in prevention and curing method of periodontal disease. Conclusions : An efficient result is thought to be probably obtained given offering an opportunity of oral examination and positively utilizing the oral-health educational method of being preferred on the basis of the contents with the highest preference, in order to promote workers' oral health.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to obtain data that can be utilized in the planning of oral health education, by surveying the correlation between oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among elementary school students. Methods : A questionnaire was administered to 227 students in the 5th and 6th grades in Hongseong-gun. The obtained data were analyzed with the SPSS 14.0 program. Results : Knowledge of oral health was very high. Correct attitudes and positive behavior were indicated. There was a significant difference in oral health behavior according to school year(p<0.05). Positive correlation was significantly observed among oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior(p<0.01). Especially, attitudes and behavior were highly correlated(r=0.583). Conclusions : Children's knowledge, attitudes, and behavior toward oral health were mutually influenced. Thus, oral health education should be carried out with the goal of causing changes in the attitudes and behavior of students, as opposed to delivering simple knowledge. Through continuous oral health education, correct oral health knowledge and behavior can be developed. Thus oral health education was expected to promote healthy habit for oral health.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to stress the necessity of the oral health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to provide some information on the development of oral health education programs. Methods : The subjects in this study were 570 students who were in their fourth, fifth and sixth grade elementary schools in the city of Jeonju that were equipped with school dental clinics. A survey was conducted to find out their oral health knowledge and behavior. Results : As for oral health knowledge, 47.5% that was the largest group had an excellent knowledge of oral health. In regard to preference for the content of oral health education, the elementary school students had the most preference for toothbrushing education, and there was a definitely positive relationship between concern for oral health and actual oral health care, since those who were more interested in oral health took better care of their oral health. Conclusions : The oral health knowledge and behavior of the elementary school students were satisfactory, and the development and implementation of quality oral health education programs are required to encourage their oral health promotion behavior.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between oral malodor and related factors in visitors to preventive dentistry practice lab. Methods: The subjects were selected from 71 visitors to preventive dentistry practice lab in a department of dental hygiene. The subjects were from twenty to twenty nine years old and had no systemic diseases or symptoms. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, oral malodor concentration, oral health status, oral health behavior, and self-rated oral malodor. Results: The mean concentration of the oral cavity gas was 50.80. The score of 50.80 was a weak smell by the selected judgement criteria. The oral malodor prevalence rate accounted for 39.1 percent and a weak smell was detected in 40 points. Those having higher oral malodor concentration tended to have lower self-rated oral health status(p<0.05). Conclusions: The results can not be generalized to determine the cause of oral malodor, but self-rated oral health status can be linked to systemic disease control. More investigation should be taken in order to analyzed the correlation between oral malodor and systemic diseases.
