  • The software reliability is defined, and not only the relations between testing time and reliability, but also the relation between duration following failure fixing and reliability are studied in this paper. The release time making the testing cost to be minimum is determined through evaluating the cost for each condition. Also, the release time is determined depending on the conditions of the first reliability, considering the specified reliability. The optimum release time is determined by simultaneously studying two optimum release time issues that determine both the cost related time and the specified reliability related time. And, each condition and limitation are studied. The trend of the optimum time is also examined.

  • We propose a software-reliability growth model incoporating the amount of testing effort expended during the software testing phase. The time-dependent behavior of testing effort expenditures is described by a Weibull curve. Assuming that the error detection rate to the amount of testing effort spent during the testing phase is proportional to the current error content, a software-reliability growth model is formulated by a nonhomogeneous Poisson process. Using this model the method of data analysis for software reliability measurement is developed. After defining a software reliability, we discuss the relations between testing time and reliability and between duration following failure fixing and reliability are studied in this paper. The release time making the testing cost to be minimum is determined through studying the cost for each condition. Also, the release time is determined depending on the conditions of the specified reliability. The optimum release time is determined by simultaneously studying optimum release time issue that determines both the cost related time and the specified reliability related time.

  • Automatic gain control(AGC) is used in hearing aids to compensate for the hearing level as to reduced dynamic range. AGC is consisted of the main 4 factors which are compression threshold, compression ratio, attack time, and release time. This study especially focus on each individual need for optimum release time parameters that can be changed within 7 certain range such as 12, 64, 128, 512, 2094, and 4096ms. To estimate the effect of various release time in AGC, twelve normal hearing and twelve hearing impaired listeners are participated. The stimuli are used by one syllable and sentence which have the same acoustic energy respectively. Then, each of score of the word recognition score is checked in quiet and noise conditions. As a result, it is verified that most people have the different best recognition score on specific release time. Also, if hearing aids is set by the optimum release time in each person, it is helpful in speech recognition and discrimination.

  • We have performed experimental studies for the improvements of pneumatic brake systems of freight trains. Currently, most of the freight trains operated by the Korean National Railroad have either empty-load or diaphragm type brake systems. In this study, appropriate methods that the air pressure characteristics in both type of brake systems are in accordance with each other have been investigated. We have also performed running tests using a 30 car-train set to design optimum capacity of a quick release valve. The test results show that the quick release valve is considerably effective in shortening the release time of the diaphragm type brake system. In the case of a normal brake application, the diaphragm type brake system with the quick release valve reduces the release time to 34% of that of the system without the quick release valve. This release time is almost equivalent to that of the empty-load type brake system. Accordance of braking performance in different types of brake systems in a train set is expected to prevent wheel flats and to reduce maintenance costs.

  • This study was conducted to remove organics and nutrients using 2 stage intermittent aeration reactor. First reactor, using suspended microbial growth in intermittent aeration instead of anaerobic reactor in the typical BNR process, used minimum carbon source to release P, and it was possible to reduce ammonia loading going to second reactor. In the second reactor, using moving media intermittent aeration, it was effective to reduce nitrate in non-aeration time by attached microorganisms having long retention time. In aeration time, nitrification and P uptake were taken place simultaneously. From the experiment, two major results were as follows. First, the removal of organics was more than 90%, and optimum aeration/non-aeration time ratio for organic removal was corresponded with aeration/non-aeration time ratio for nitrogen removal. Second, in the first reactor, optimum aeration/non-aeration time ratio was 15/75 (min.) because it was necessary to maintain 75 min. of non-aeration time to suppress of impediment of return nitrate and to lead release of phosphate. In the second reactor, optimum aeration/non-aeration time ratio was 45/90 (min.).

  • Variations in the number of early health effects resulting from the severe accidents of the YGN 3&4 nuclear power plants were examined for different combinations of release parameters and meteorological data . The release parameters and meteorological data were selected in combination to define a limited number of basic spectra characterized by release height, heat content, release time, warning time, wind speed, rainfall rate, and atmospheric stability class. Variant seasonal spectra were also defined in order to estimate the potential significance of seasonal variations as a factor determining the incidence or number of early health effects. The results show that there are large differences in consequences from spectrum to spectrum, although an equal amount and mix of radioactive material is released to the atmosphere in each case. Also, there are large differences in the estimated number of health effects from season to season due to distinct seasonal variations in meteorological combinations in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to consider seasonal characteristics in developing optimum emergency response strategies.

  • This paper considers software release problems based on Goel-Okumoto and S-shaped reliability growth models. Test of the software system is terminated after a preassigned time T, and it is released to the operational phase. It is assumed that correction cost of an error is increasing with test or operation time. Optimum software release time is obtained using total expected cost on the software life time as a criterion for optimization. In addition, optimal software release policies under the constraint of a software reliability requirement are discussed.

  • We propose software reliability growth model, considering testing effort resource during testing stage of S/W, and compare the time dependent testing effort resource behavior in this paper. We develop the data technology method for the S/W reliability measure. We study in detail between the time elapse and reliability. Also, we determine the optimum release time which meets the target reliability. We decide optimum release time for each condition how the reliability is good before testing after development.
