It is generally known that paper industry is the second largest industry in the use of process water, and also have the highest environmental impact load in the contaminant sources. Paper is produced from the mixtures composed of 1% fibrous raw materials and 99% water. The optimum use of process water effects on the quality properties of paper and the environmental impact load of waste water treatment. In this research, the kinds of fibrous raw material & additives used in the paperboard production line were investigated, and the quantification of environmental loads and the environmental effects of process water on COD potential were evaluated. The NBDCODs were also analyzed from process water by the method of waste water treatment in paper mill and applied for the optimum use of recycling water, and zero effluent process. In the fibrous raw materials, KOCC caused the highest COD potentials, and sack paper & UKP was comparatively low. The NBDCOD of KOCC largely reduced after biological treatment because of easily biodegradable properties, but AOCC contained non-biodegradable materials. In chemical additives, COD was high in turns of rosin>starch>deaeration agent>dye, NBDCOD greatly reduced in starch and deaeration agent. In the case of 2 kinds of paperboard product, the COD potentials was mainly high in starch, AOCC and KOCC.
Polypyrrole (PPy) was coated sequentially by chemical and electrochemical methods on a woven fabric, giving rise to a fabric having high electrical conductivity. We investigated the effects of the preparation conditions on the various properties of the resulting fabric. The PPy-coated fabric with optimum properties was obtained when it was prepared sequentially by chemical polymerization at the elevated temperature of 100$^{\circ}C$ under a pressure of 0.9 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and then electrochemical polymerization with a 3.06 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ current density at 25 $^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs with the separator plate. The surface resistivity of the resulting fabric was as low as 5 Ω/$\square$ .The PPy-coated fabric prepared under the optimum conditions showed practically applicable heat generating property. When electrical power was supplied to the fabric using a commercial battery for a mobile phone (3.6 V, LGLl-AHM), the temperature of the fabric increased very quickly from room temperature to ca. 55 $^{\circ}C$ within 2 min and was maintained for ca. 80 min at that temperature. The heat generating property of the fabric was extremely stable, exhibiting similar behavior over 10 repeated cycles. Therefore, we suggest that the PPy-coated fabric in this study may be practically useful for many applications, including flexible, portable surface-heating elements for medical or other applications.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of nail diameter, driving distance from end on the nail check length, and the effects of nail diameter, prehole for nail driving, and nail driving slope on the nail withdrawal resistance, by the static test of universal testing machine. The test specimen were Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don.) boards grown in southern district of Korea, and the nails for test were 2.02~4.82 mm in diameter. After nail driving, the back face checks of test boards were longer than the surface checks. The optimum nail diameter without checks or loss of nail withdrawal resistance were below 10% of board width and the optimum driving distance from end of boards were ten multiple of nail diameter. The relation between nail diameter (x) and withdrawal resistance (y) was linear and the regression formulae for Japanese cedar board was y = 8.66x + 7.6 ($R^2=0.978$). As both of the prehole diameter and driving slope were increased, the withdrawal resistances were significantly decreased.
Extracellular nuclease(s) in buffalo rumen fluid were purified from strained rumen fluid by a procedure involving Seitz filtration, acetone fractionation and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. The enzyme resolved into two peaks exhibiting both DNase and RNase activities. The molecular weight of enzyme corresponding to peaks I and II were approximately 30,000 and 12,000 respectively. The properties of enzymes from the two peaks, however, were same. Optimum temperature for both DNase and RNase activities was at $50^{\circ}C$. Whereas DNase activity was stable upto $60^{\circ}C$, RNase activity was stable only up to $50^{\circ}C$. DNase activity recorded two pH optima, one at pH 5.5 and the other at pH 7.0. RNase activity recorded a broad pH optimum between pH 6.0-8.0. pH stability of the enzyme coincided with pH optima for both the activities. DNase activity was stimulated by $Mg^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ and inhibited by $Fe^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$ and $Ag^+$. RNase activity was also stimulated by $Mg^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ and inhibited by $Cu^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$ and $Ag^+$. Reducing agents stimulated both the activities.
This study was conducted to evaluate the relationships between the geotechnical properties and the CBR values of the subgrade materials used in the rural roal construction. A total of 77 Soil samples was investigated and tested from 45 agricultural and industrial sites in Kyungpook Province. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The maximum dry densities of the coarse grained soils are larger than those of the fine grained soils. The optimum moisture contents of the coarse grained soils are smaller than those of the fine grained scils. 2. The mean values of the medified CBR values of the soils classified by the USCS, are decreased in the order of GP-GM, SW-SM, GM, SC, SP-SM, ML, CL-ML. And, those classified by the AASHTO are decreased in the order of A-i-a, A-i-b, A-2-4, A-3, A-4, A-6, A-7-6. 3. As passing percentage of No.200 sieve is increased, the CBR Value of soils is decreased gradually. 4. As the optimum moisture contents of the soil is increased, the CBR values is decresed the maximum dry density of the soils increased, the CBR values increased. 5. The CBR values are decreased as Group-lndex(GI) are increased. And Activity(A) is showed no relation with the CBR values. 6. The relation ships between the modified CBR value and standand proctor compaction CBR value at 95% compaction ratio can he expressed as the following equation : Y(CERmod)= 2.3638 + 0.8922X(CBR25).
The study was conducted in order to investigate the basic geotechnical properties of sand-bentonite mixtures with the various bentonite contents. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures was approximately 17.10~18.52% corresponding to the maximum dry density of 1.58~1 .64gf/$cm^3$. As the bentonite contents and curing peroid increased, both the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures increased. 2. The unconfined compressive strength of sand-bentonite mixtures increased as the increase of bentonite content, but it did not change along the curing period. 3. The sand-bentonite mixtures ruptured at 8~15% of the axial strain and the maxi-mum shearing stress was about O.7Okgf/$cm^2$. 4. According to the increase of bentonite content, the cohesion intercept and internal friction of the sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly in the shear test, while the cohesion intercept increased largely, and the internal friction angle decreased largely in the triaxial test. 5. Both the initial void ratio and swelling of the sand-bentonite mixtures were very low with respect to the consolidation pressure increase. 6. The swelling and shrinkage of sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly according to the increment of bentonite content.

A borate compound was adopted as new host material for $Eu^{3+}$, $Tb^{3+}$ and $Tm^{3+}$ activators. The phosphor samples, $Gd_{1-x}Eu_xCa_3(GaO)_3(BO_3)_4$, $Gd_{1-x}Tb_xCa_3(GaO)_3(BO3)_4$ and $Gd_{1-x}Tm_xCa_3(GaO)_3(BO_3)_4$ have been synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. The crystalline phase for the resulting powders was identified using an X-ray diffraction $system^1$. Their photoluminescence properties under the excitation of UV ray were investigated. The Eu, Tb or Tm-doped $GdCa_3(GaO)_3(BO_3)_4$ emits efficient red, green or blue light, respectively. It was observed that the optimum concentration of Eu or Tb activator for the borate host was much higher than other $Eu^{3+}$ or $Tb^{3+}-doped$ phosphors.
Polycrystalline Tl-1223 superconductors with a chemical composition of (Tl, Pb, Bi)TEX>$ (Sr, Ba)<_2$$Ca_2$$Cu_3$$O_{x}$ were synthesized by the solid state reaction method. The optimum chemical composition was $Tl_{0.8}$$Pb_{0.2}$$Bi_{0.2}$$Sr_{1.8}$$Ba_{0.2}$$Ca_{2.2}$$Cu_3$$O_{x}$ And the optimum sintering temperature and time were $905^{\circ}C$ and 7.5h, respectively. The sample was evaluated for their superconducting properties by magnetization measurement. The critical temperature $T_{c}$ is 120 K and the critical current density $J_{c}$ (T=5K, 0T) is estimated to be ∼ $10^{5}$ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for $Tl_{0.8}$$Pb_{0.2}$$Bi_{0.2}$$Sr_{1.8}$$Ba_{0.2}$$Ca_{2.2}$$Cu_3$$O_{x}$ .
The effects of six kinds of phosphate complex on the water holding capacity (W.H.C) and protein solubility of hair tail, yellow tail runner and dried pollack meat paste were investigated and animal meat(pork, chicken and hare meat complex) The formulation of six kind of phosphate complex employed to this experiment were made by mixing several phosphate such as sodium polyphosphate, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, potassim pyrophosphate, sodium ultra-meta-phosphate, sodium-tetra-phosphate and monoglyceride at different mixture ratio Among the six kinds of phosphate complex, phosphate B complex which was formulated by mixing sodium polyphosphate 40%, sodium pyrophosphate 30%, sodium tetra mata phosphate 10%, sodium ultra meta phosphate 10% was most effective on enchanging the W H. C, and protein solubility of hair tail, yellow tail runner dried pollack meat past and in case of pork, chicken and hare meat paste. Phosphate C complex which was formulated by mixing sodium polyphosphate 50%. sodium pyrophosphate 30%, sodium tetra meta phosphate 10%, potassium pyrophosphate 10%, was more effective them other phosphate complex, and thief optimum addition level was 0.5% respectively in weight of fish meat paste. Texture characteristics such as hardness, cohesiveness and springiness value of Kamaboko(fish meat and pork, chicken, hare meat complex past meat product) were evaluted as best when 0.5% of Phosphate B complex was added The optimum cooking condition of Kamaboko to get good texture was heating for 20 minutes at 12$0^{\circ}C$.
