The objective of this study was to determine the response of QTL in each generation during selection to develop inbred lines. The simulation program was written in Fortran. Magnitude of QTL effects, base population size, number of QTL assigned to population, and the allelic frequency for the positive allele at each major QTL were highly associated with number of generations to fixation of QTLs during selection. Populations with larger QTL effects and larger base population size had more individuals with fixed QTL. However, a smaller number of QTL assigned to population had a higher fraction of individuals with fixed QTL at each generation compared with more populations with QTL. This simulation study will help to design biological experiments for detection of QTL-marker association using inbred population and to determine optimum number of lines with fixed QTL during inbred line development. To complement this study, additional simulation should be need with abundant replicates, more various population sizes, magnitude of QTL effects, and recombination between markers and QTLs.
In this paper we have suggested a family of chain estimators of the population mean $\bar{Y}$ of a study variate y using two auxiliary variates in two phase (double) sampling assuming that the coefficient of variation of the second auxiliary variable is known. It is well known that chain estimators are traditionally formulated when the population mean $\bar{X}_1$ of one of the two auxiliary variables, say $x_1$, is not known but the population mean $\bar{X}_2$ of the other auxiliary variate $x_2$ is available and $x_1$ has higher degree of positive correlation with the study variate y than $x_2$ has with y, $x_2$ being closely related to $x_1$. Here the classes are constructed when the population mean $\bar{X}_1\;of\;X_1$ is not known and the coefficient of variation $C_{x2}\;of\;X_2$ is known instead of population mean $\bar{X}_2$. Asymptotic expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the suggested family have been obtained. An asymptotic optimum estimator (AOE) is also identified with its MSE formula. The optimum sample sizes of the preliminary and final samples have been derived under a linear cost function. An empirical study has been carried out to show the superiority of the constructed estimator over others.
Recently, the city development policies are being switched to the policies focusing on recession worldwide. Even though South Korea is also facing the phenomena that small and medium-sized cities are downsized because of a decrease in population and an aging society problem, there is lack of solutions and even they are still planning city development policies based on prospect of high growth. This study is featuring 4 viewpoints depending on shrinking population trend in 7 small and medium sized local cities, which are chosen as downsized cities. It is dealing with population peak, current population, 2030 population, and 2040 population viewpoints. And this study uses downsizing simulation that suggests optimum area that fits population and then shows visual check of the status of the small and medium sized local cities. The area of the small and medium sized local cities are expanded more than needs when they are on population peak point. However, they need only 20% to 25% of current area in 2030 and 2040. The most important thing is realizing the seriousness and facing up to the 'shrinking' phenomena that each small and medium-sized cities suffer. Therefore, this study has significance for presenting the status of small and medium-sized cities' problems in South Korea.
This study was conducted to collect data concerning the preferred driving postures and adopted seat adjustment levels and to grasp relationships among drivers' body sizes, postural angles, and adopted seat positions and angles. Also optimum driving posture and seat adjustment level estimation models were constructed. An experiment was conducted to investigate observed optimum driving posture, and seat adjustment level. Thirty-six subjects (male=20, female=16) was selected to include a wide range of percentiles in the dimensions important for automotive driving workstation design and to be representative of the automotive driving population in Korea. New guidelines and estimation models for optimum postural comfort were developed. There were significant differences between male and female in postural angles but not in seat adjustment levels. Taller subjects preferred a more open and reclined posture. Estimation models enable us to estimate the quantitative optimum driving posture and seat adjustment level with some drivers' physical dimensions.

This paper describes a design of graphical user interface for a simulated breeding tool with multifield. The term field is used here as a population of visualized individuals that are candidates of selection. Multi-field interface enables the user to breed his/her favorite phenotypes by selection independently in each field, and he/she can copy arbitrary individual into another field. As known on genetic algorithms, a small population likely leads to premature convergence trapped by a local optimum, and migration among plural populations is useful to escape from local optimum. The multi-field user interface provides easy implementation of migration and wider diversity. We show the usefulness of multi-field user interface through an example of a breeding system of 2D CG images.
Genetic algorithms based on the theory of natural selection, have been applied to many different fields, and have proven to be relatively robust means to search for global optimum and handle discontinuous or even discrete data. Genetic algorithms are widely used for unconstrained optimization problems. However, their application to constrained optimization problems remains unsettled. The most prevalent technique for coping with infeasible solutions is to penalize a population member for constraint violation. But, the weighting of a penalty for a particular problem constraint is usually determined in the heuristic way. Therefore this paper proposes, the effective technique for handling constraints, the ranking penalty method and hybrid genetic algorithms. And this paper proposes dynamic mutation tate to maintain the diversity in population. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested on several test problems and results are discussed.

The nonlinear, time dependent photon transport equations of Frantz and Nodvik, which describe the amplification of an optical pulse in an active medium, are modified to a simpler equation which describes only the amplification of energy. with this equation, the output energy of the high power YLF(Nd3+)-Phosphate Glass(Nd3+) Laser System is calculated. When the stored energy density Est is 0.10J/㎤, 0.16J/㎤, 0.228J/㎤, and 0.50J/㎤, and with the assumption of uniform population inversion density, the final output energy of this laser system is 5.38J, 176J, 317J, and 283J, respectively. The gain saturation causes distortion of the output beam. This phenomenon is described in detail at the first three rod amplifier systems in the case of E=0.228J/㎤. The peak current and decay time constant of the flashlamps, which are used to obtain population inversion in the active medium, are investigated. The flashlamp driving circuit which has optimum operational performance should have {{{{ SQRT { LC} }} time about 100$\mu$sec.
The percentage of postnatal disabled people and elderly population is rapidly increased by the industrialization, and the improvement of medical technology. The disparity between the city and rural area is in the way to disabled people who need rehabilitation. To solve these problems, Community Based Rehabilitation(CBR) is suggested by WHO. In this study, at first, the CBR model considering the specific characteristics of AnSan City are presented. Secondly, the first, the second, and the third rehabilitation facilities in AnSan City are classified by the CBR model. Thirdly, the estimation of optimum space for physical therapy and occupational therapy at rehabilitation center and public health center are sugested, which are the second level rehabilitation facilities. There are some differences in the distribution of population between new and old area in AnSan City. In other words, the subject population of CBR program in old area is relatively higher than that of new area. So, the CBR program for AnSan City must reflect their regional characteristics. In this study, the therapeutic boundaries of second level rehabilitation facilities is decided through the survey of physical therapists and occupational therapists in general hospitals and nursing homes.
A genetic algorithm (GA) is a stochastic direct search strategy that mimics the process of genetic evolution. The GA applied herein works on a population of structural designs at any one time, and uses a structured information exchange based on the principles of natural selection and wurvival of the fittest to recombine the most desirable features of the designs over a sequence of generations until the process converges to a "maximum fitness" design. Principles of genetics are adapted into a search procedure for structural optimization. The methods consist of three genetics operations mainly named selection, cross- over and mutation. In this study, a method of finding the optimum topology of truss/beam structure is pro- posed by using the GA. In order to use GA in the optimum topology problem, chromosomes to FEM elements are assigned, and a penalty function is used to include constraints into fitness function. The results show that the GA has the potential to be an effective tool for the optimal design of structures accounting for sizing, geometrical and topological variables.variables.
