  • In comparison with gasoline engine, LPG direct injection engine has some advantages not only in emission and fuel efficiency but also in prevention of power decrease and back fire etc. which are disadvantages of conventional LPG engine. In this study, comparision tests of the incylinder spray and combustion characteristics between of LPG and gasoline fuels were performed in the RCEM as a basic research for the development of future LPG engine with low emission and high fuel efficiency During the direct injection of LPG fuel and gasoline into the inside of RCEM, spray development characteristics according to the injection condition have been photographed by the high speed shadow graph methods. The conditions for the optimum mixture distribution of LPG and gasoline fuels are achievable at the selected ignition timing, respectively.

  • Recently, the recycling of the by-products was attempted to various fields. One of the major industry, the copper manufacturing industry produced a lot slags. in this study, the copper smelting slag was used to use practically application for the aggregate of concrete. To find the optimum mixing ratio of mortar with the copper smelting slag as substitution for sand, the mixing ratio was increased 1:2 to 1:5 step by step and every mixture was contained 5 steps sand substitutive ratio. The substitutive ratio of sand was increased 25% st대 by step from 0% to 100%. The result of this study was shown as follows. 1. In the every mixture, as the substitutive ratio was increased, the flow was decrease 3.64% from 18cm, and the unit content weigth was increased 5.5% in average. 2. The property of the strength was judged that it was more affected W/C and mixing ratio than the copper smelting slag.

  • Porous Concrete usually contains large amount of voids(about 10∼20%) after compaction so that it has relatively high permeability. It has been introduced in domestic since early 1980's but it has problems such as lack of optimized mixture, low strength and durability, and other defects, etc. The purpose of this study is to manufacture high-performance porous concrete using polymer to enhance the mechanical properties. The results of this study are as follows; the compressive strength range 12 92∼207kgf/㎠, the tensile strength range is 14∼28kgf/㎠, the bending stength range is 42∼73kgf/㎠, and the coefficient permeability range is 5.77×10-2∼6.79×10-1cm/sec. To develope high-performance porous concrete. further studies are needed on optimum mixture of fineness modulus and admixture.

  • In order to obtain the fundamental data for the preparation of ferroxplana $Zn_2Y(Ba_2Zn_2Fe_{12}O_{22})$, which is useful for GHz-band communication, the optimum coprecipitation condition of $Zn(NO_3)_2-6FeCl_3$ in $NH_4OH$ solution and the formation process of the hexagonal ferrite were investigated. By the hot-petroleum-drying and calcining the coprecipitated hydroxide mixture $Zn(OH)_2 +Ba(OH)_2+ 6Fe(OH)_3$, the fine and uniform powder was obtained , whose phase composition and microstructure were studied by X.R.D. and electron microscope. In results, it was found that $Zn_2Y$, BaM and $Zn_2W$ were the representative phases in calcined specimens whose activation energies of crystal growth were about 3, 8, 2.5, $5.4{\times}10^4$ J/mole , respectively. The sintered specimens would be appreciated as useful magnetic cores for the high frequency communication.

  • In this study, BST thin films were etched with inductively coupled $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ plasmas. The etch characteristics of BST thin films as a function of $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ gas mixtures were analyzed using quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The maximum etch rate of the BST thin films was 53.6 nm/min because small addition of $CF_4$ to the $Cl_2/Ar$ mixture increased chemical effect. The optimum condition appears to be under a 10 % $CF_4/(Cl_2+Ar)$ gas mixture in the present work.

  • In the present investigation, a series of laboratory compaction and unconfined compressive strength laboratory tests has been performed. To determine the effect of compaction energy, type of sand, and fly ash content, compaction tests have been performed with varying compaction energy ($2700kJ/m^3-300kJ/m^3$), types of sand, and fly ash content (0% to 40%) respectively. From the experimental results, it has been found that the optimum value of unconfined compressive strength obtained for a sand-fly ash mixture comprised of 65% sand and 35% fly ash. Based on the data obtained in the present investigation, a linear mathematical model has been developed to predict the OMC of sand-fly ash mixture.

  • The activity of photosystem II in isolated chloroplast form the leaves of Sedum sarmentosum was measured. The photoreduction rate of DCPIP by photosystem II showed the circadian rhythm with a peak at near midday sample for a continuing fine day and at near afternoon between nidday and sunset sample for a continuing cloudy day in summer. The optimum light intensity of photoreduction by photosystem II in the chloroplast preparation was about 5~9$\times$$10^4$ lux. The saturated light intensity was over 9$\times$$10^1$lux. Photosystem II activity was inhibited by even the lowest concentration of lead. When Pi and ATP of the same concentration as Pb were added to the reaction mixture containing Tris buffer lacking of Pi prior to Pb incubation, photosystem II activity was protected from Pb-inhibiting effect by the pretreament of Pi and ATP. It was assumed that Pb inhibiiton was probably due to one, P-depriving by the precipitates of $Pb_3$ $($Pb_4$)_2$ in the reaction mixture and the other, partially Pb-combing with Pi groups of the active site of photosystem II.

  • We studied the effects on the ignitability of mixture, the combustion duration, and the maximum combustion pressure, of various initial combustion factors such as temperature, pressure, and each equivalence ratio in order to identify the combustion characteristics of lean mixture and improve ignitability through the proper control of the ignition energy. It is concluded that there is an optimum turbulent intensity that enables the combustion to have the best ignitability and the shortest duration under each equivalent ratio, and the combustion duration is only dependent upon the distribution and magnitude of discharge energy within the limit of inflammability.

  • In formulation technology, the drugs forming eutectic mixture cause many pharmaceutical problems. In this study, the method to prevent such problems has been investigated. The combined drugs of aspirin and isopropylantipyrine forming eutectic mixtures were granulated by using three kinds of binders (PVP, HPMC, starch) and these granules were made into pellets by compacting them with various compressional forces. It was possible to select optimum conditions in granulating, tableting, etc. Disintegration time and dissolution pattern were investigated about this formulation, too.

  • The effects of the particle size on the homogeneity of mixing and segregation of caffeine-lactose (1:99) mixture were studied. Using the two kinds of caffein, milled and unmilled caffein, V-type blender, the degree of mixing according to the particle size was predicted and the experiment on the change of mixedness by mixing time was carried out by the method derived from mixing index theory by Poole et al. and Hersey. the results could be summarized as follows; (1) The homogeneity of mixing was greatly affected by the particle size and the particle size should be reduced to the adepuate level to attain the desirable mixedness. (2) The homogeneity was not proportional to the mixing time and optimum mixing time for caffein-lactose was about 10 minutes. (3) Segregation tendency was increased by the particle size increase and greatly affected by the flow time in the segregation cell.
