Seed germination is a biological process that is affected by a variety of genetic and environmental factors. The cardinal temperature and thermal time are required for germination. The principal objective of this study was to identify and characterize variations in the base, optimum, and maximum germination temperatures of Haloxylon aphyllum L. from two seed sources, in order to establish models for use in predicting seeding dates. Mature H. aphyllum seeds were germinated at temperatures between 5 and $35^{\circ}C$. The germination behavior of H. aphyllum seeds to different temperature regimens in light was evaluated over a temperature range of $5-35^{\circ}C$ at intervals of $5^{\circ}C$. The rate of germination increased between base and optimum thermal conditions, and decreased between optimum and maximum thermal conditions; the germination rate varied in a linear fashion at both sub-optimal and supra-optimal temperatures. The linear regression fit the range of germination rates at $5^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$, and thus the base temperature, optimum temperature, and maximum temperature for the germination of H. aphyllum were measured to be $0.6^{\circ}C$, $25.69^{\circ}C$, $37.90^{\circ}C$, and $1.76^{\circ}C$, $21.56^{\circ}C$, $37.90^{\circ}C$ for Qom and the Fars dune desert respectively.
Experiments were carried out to find out the optimum water potential, temperature, and duration for the priming of rice seeds, Oryza sativa L. (cv. Ilpumbyeo) for better germination at sub-optimal temperatures. Seeds were primed in 0, -0.2, -0.4, -0.6, -0.8, and -1.0 MPa PEG (polyethylene glycol) solutions at $25^{\circ}C$. The optimum water potential for seed priming, the highest water potential at which rice seeds did not germinate, was -0.6 MPa. To find out optimum priming temperature and duration rice seeds were primed in -0.6 MPa PEG solution and 0 MPa (water as a control) for various durations at 15 and $25^{\circ}C$ and the seeds were germinated at 17, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$. Considering germination rate and speed, the optimum priming time in water (0 MPa) was 4 days at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 1 day at $25^{\circ}C$, while 4 days was the optimum priming time in a -0.6 MPa PEG solution, regardless of the priming temperature. Priming reduced the actual time of germination, especially at sub-optimal temperatures. Priming did not affect germination rate in -0.6 MPa PEG solution at 15$^{\circ}C$, but overpriming reduced the final germination rate in water at 15$^{\circ}C$ and in -0.6 PEG solution at $25^{\circ}C$. Total sugars and $\alpha$-amylase activity induced during the seed priming were negatively correlated with the final germination rate and there was no noted relationship with the speed or uniformity of germination.

This study was conducted to investigate the seed storage method and seed germination characteristics of Synurus deltoides (Ait.) Nakai, a kind of wild vegetables. Several parameters affecting seed germination, such as germination temperature, chilling duration, imbibition duration, and storage method were evaluated. The seed germination of Synurus deltoides showed the highest germination rate (GR), promptness index (PI), germination performance index (GPI), mean daily germination (MDG) at 25℃. This implies that the optimum germination temperature was 25℃. And also, Seeds stored at -4℃, after 150 days showed relatively high germination rate about 98%. Therefore, The optimum germination temperature of Synurus deltoides was 25℃ and to increase the germination rate over 98% of Synurus deltoides, cold-wet storage 20 days treatments at 4℃ were effective in the improvement of seed germination.
This study is aimed to understand the effects of temperature, light and GA soaking treatment on the seed germination of perennial ryegrass 'Dandy', creeping hentgrass 'Penlinks', tall fescue 'Arid' and Kentucky hluegrass 'Nasaw'. These experiments are carried in vitro, and their results obtained are summarized as the followings ; The optimum temperature for seed germination of perennial ryegrass 'Dandy' was found to he ranged at 20~30$^{\circ}C$, and the optimum temperature for germination of creeping bentgrass 'Penlinks', tall fescue 'Arid' and kentucky bluegrass 'Nasaw' seeds was found to be ranged at 20~25$^{\circ}C$, whereas the germination percentage under the below or above temperature of this range decreased. The germination of perennial ryegrass 'Dandy' and tall fescue 'Arid' seeds showed no effect on light, and while the germination percentage of creeping hentgrass 'Penlinks' increased more highly under the dark condition than under the light condition. The germination percentage decreased according to the higher temperature. The germination of Kentucky bluegrass 'Nasaw' seeds increased more highly under the dark condition than under the light condition at 20~25$^{\circ}C$, whereas the germination percentage under the dark condition at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 30$^{\circ}C$ decreased. In case of GA soaking treatment of seeds, all the cool season turfgrasses tested showed their own promoting effects on seed germination. The early germination of tall fescue 'Arid' was good without the soaking times. Creeping bentgrass 'Penlinks' and perennial ryegrass 'Dandy' had re-spectively the highest germination percentage at 10min and 1hr soaking treatment, and the longer the soaking time, the lesser the germination percentage. Kentucky bluegrass 'Nasaw' obtained the best results at 24has soaking treatment, and the longer the soaking time, the better the ger-mination percentage.
Effect of temperature, pH and soil depth on germination of Dianthus chinensis, Dianthus barbatus, and Perennial pennant were investigated in growth chamber and soil condition at the ratio of 7:3 (natural soil and organic soil) in laboratory condition. the optimum temperature for seed germination was recorded for $20^{\circ}C-\;25^{\circ}C$. Maximum germination was observed for Dianthus barbatus (76%) where as in soil condition Perennial pennant (51%) showed maximum germination at 1 cm soil depth. Similarly, optimum pH for seed germination was at pH 6 in all the species. So in lower pH (at pH4) seed germination was inhibited. Germination of these selected species at different environmental condition help to construct the ecological sound proof wall to mitigate the noise especially in urban areas.

A genus Camelina has been attracted as a promising oil crop, especially available in drought and marginal conditions. Due to more demands on arable land for bioenergy crops, price of agricultural products has been a challengeable issue. In that respect, development of Camelina crop with higher germination rate and germination energy can be a strategy to secure seedling establishment, nutrient uptake and long vegetative period. In order to be easily available in the field and laboratory conditions, Camelina seed needs to be optimized for its germination temperature. Germination temperature regime was in a range of 8 to $32^{\circ}C$ initially, and consecutively narrowed down to 8 to $20^{\circ}C$. Based on the temperature range, Camelina germinated greater than 96% at $8-16^{\circ}C$ in two weeks after sowing, but germination rate started to decrease at the higher than $24^{\circ}C$ and was significantly low at higher than $32^{\circ}C$. In terms of rapid time to reach the maximum germination rate and greater germination energy, temperature ranged from 12 to $16^{\circ}C$ was found to be desirable for Camelina germination. Although germinationa rate was greater at $16^{\circ}C$, lower temperature close to $12^{\circ}C$ would be favored for the field conditions where greater root growth leading to healthier seedlings and better nutrient or water availability is considerably demanded.
Effects of plant growth regulators on the germination of ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) seeds were investigated. Ginseng seeds germinated more vigorously in the treatments of kinetin and BA, and the promoting effect of kinetic on the germination and the growth of rootlet enhanced in low temperature ($10^{\circ}C$). However, GA did not promote the germination of dehiscent seed. The optimum temperature for germination of dehiscent seed was $10^{\circ}C$ and the range of effective concentration of kinetin for germination was 50 to 100 ppm.

To improve the germination of Spiraea fritschiana seeds for mass propagation, we evaluated the effect of a range of temperatures, cold stratification periods, and gibberellic acid ($GA_3$) treatments on three germination characteristics. Final germination percentage (FGP) increased as the temperature for seed germination increased, up to $30^{\circ}C$, while the mean germination time (MGT) and the mean number of days to 30% germination ($T_{30}$) decreased when seeds were germinated at $25-30^{\circ}C$. The optimum germination temperature of S. fritschiana seeds is approximately $30^{\circ}C$ considering FGP, MGT, and $T_{30}$ together. FGP increased with the duration of cold stratification up to a period of 6 weeks, but declined after 8 weeks of cold stratification, as prolonged cold stratification can induce dormancy with a resultant decline in germination. Pretreatment with 6-8 weeks of cold stratification or soaking seeds in distilled water or $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$$GA_3$ for 24 h accelerated and increased the germination of S. fritschiana seeds, regardless of temperature. However, further study might be required to evaluate the effect of $GA_3$ concentrations lower than $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ on the promotion of germination in S. fritschiana seeds.
The optimum temperature for germination of conidia and germ tube elongation were between $20\;and\;30^{\circ}C$ in C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides. Appressoria were fairly formed well at $20^{\circ}C$ despite the delay of conidial germination. At $30^{\circ}C$, both the germination and germ tube elongation are favored, but appressoria were poorly detected to be formed. In C. acutatum, the optimum temperature for germination of conidia was from $20\;to\;30^{\circ}C$, but at $25^{\circ}C$, germ tube elongation are accelerated. The conidia become septate and one or both doughter cells become conidiogenous instead of producing germ tubes and a secondary conidia produced, resulting in an arborescent type of connected conidia. Appressoria are infrequently formed by germinating conida. At $20\;to\;25^{\circ}C$ was the optimum for appressorium formation. But conidia that germinated at $30^{\circ}C$ seemed to lose the ability to form appressoria. The relation of temperature to germination of conidia and appressorium formation in Colletotrichum acutatum, C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides are discussed.
