  • Generally, vector spatial data, with richer information than raster spatial data enabledata, enables a mere flexible and effective manipulation of the data sets. However, one of challenges against the publication of vector spatial information on the Internet is the efficient transmission of the big and complex vector spatial datadata, which is both large and complex, across the narrow-bandwidth of the Internet. This paper proposes a new transmission method, namely, the Scale-Dependent Transmission method, with the purpose of improving the efficiency of vector spatial data transmission on the narrow-bandwidthacross the Internet. Simply put, its nam idea is “Transmit what can be seen””. Scale is regarded as a factor naturally associated with spatial features so that not all features are visible to users at a certain scale. With the aid of the Wavelet-Wavelet-based Map Generalization Algorithm, the proposed method filters out invisible features from spatial objects according to the display scale and then to transmit onlytransmits only the visible features as athe final answer for an individual operation. Experiments show that the response times ofan individual operation has been reducedoperations were substantially by the usage of reduced when using the proposed method.

  • IGRINS (the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrometer) is a high resolution wide-band infrared spectrograph developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT). This spectrograph has H-band and K-band science cameras, both of which use Teledyne's $2.5{\mu}m$ cutoff $2k{\times}2k$ HgCdTe HAWAII-2RG CMOS science grade detectors. Teledyne's cryogenic SIDECAR ASIC boards and JADE2 USB interface cards were installed to control these detectors. We performed lab experiments and test observations to optimize and evaluate the detector systems of science cameras. In this presentation, we describe a process to optimize bias voltages and way to reduce pattern noise with reference pixel subtraction schemes. We also present measurements of the following properties under optimized settings of bias voltages at cryogenic temperature (70K): read noise, Fowler noise, dark current, and reference-level stability, full well depth, linearity and conversion gain.

  • Recently the cargo transportation is increasing according to lager containerships in the container terminal. Thus, the various ways(such as efficient vehicle scheduling and minimizing delay time) are applied to increase productivity to handle the increasing cargo transportation in the container terminal. In this paper, the optimized model(Solvers) is applied to improve the existing heuristic method as a way of increasing productivity. The experimental design is that the result of two objective functions(minimizing travel and delay time of the empty vehicle) is compared to the result of the existing heuristic method by six sample problems. As a result of the two objective function experiments, the optimized model draws 5.3% more improved performance than the heuristic method in four of six problem samples.

  • This paper describes the optimization of a language model and an acoustic model to improve speech recognition using Korean unit digits. Since the model is composed of a finite state network (FSN) with a disyllable, recognition errors of the language model were reduced by analyzing the grammatical features of Korean unit digits. Acoustic models utilize a demisyllable pair to decrease recognition errors caused by inaccurate division of a phone or monosyllable due to short pronunciation time and articulation. We have used the K-means clustering algorithm with the transformed successive state splitting in the feature level for the efficient modelling of feature of the recognition unit. As a result of experiments, 10.5% recognition rate is raised in the case of the proposed language model. The demi-syllable fair with an acoustic model increased 12.5% recognition rate and 1.5% recognition rate is improved in transformed successive state splitting.

  • Response surface methodology (RSM) was successfully applied to optimize for the production of Ganoderma lucidum in batch fermentations using the whey (40,000 mg latose/L) as substrate. This study was performed according to the central composite design (CCD) with respect to pH and temperature, where the designed intervals were 3.3$22.9^{\circ}C$$37.1^{\circ}C$, respectively. A second-order factorial design of the experiments was used to build empirical models providing a quantitative interpretation of the relationships between the two variables. The optimum conditions to maximize the production of G. lucidum were pH 4.2 and $28.3^{\circ}C$. At optimum conditions, the mycelial dry weight (MDW) and residual soluble COD (SCOD) were simultaneously used to evaluate the biokinetic coefficients assocoated with substrate inhibition model by nonlinear least squares method with 95% confidence interval. The. maximum microbial growth rates (${\mu}m$), half saturation coefficient ($K_s$), and the inhibition substrate concentration ($K_{is}$) were determined to be 0.095 l/hr, 128,000 mg SCOD/L and 49,000 mg SCOD/L, respectively. And the microbial yield coefficient (Y), biomass decay rate coefficient ($K_d$), and the maintenance energy coefficient ($m_s$) were determined to be 0.37 mg MDW/mg SCOD, 0.001 1/hr, and 0.0015 1/hr, respectively.

  • Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of fuel injection nozzles on the combustion and NOx formation processes in a medium-speed marine diesel engine. Spray visualization experiment was performed in the constant-volume high-pressure chamber to verify the numerical results on the spray characteristics such as spray angle and spray tip penetration. Time-resolved spray behaviors were captured by high-speed digital camera and analyzed to extract the information on the spray parameters. Spray and combustion phenomena were examined numerically using FIRE code. Wave breakup and Zeldovich models were adopted to describe the atomization characteristics and NOx formation processes. Numerical results were verified with experimental data such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate and NOx emission. Finally, the effects of fuel injection nozzles on the engine performance were investigated numerically to find the optimum nozzle parameters such as fuel injection angle, nozzle hole diameter and number of nozzle holes. From this study, the optimum fuel injection nozzle (nozzle hole diameter, 0.32 mm, number of nozzle holes, 8 and fuel injection angle, $148^{\circ}$) was selected to reduce both the fuel consumption and NOx emission. The reason for this selection could be explained from the highest fuel-air mixing in the early phase of injection due to the longest spray tip penetration and the highest heat release rate after $19^{\circ}$ ATDC due to the increased injection duration.

  • This paper presents a practical method to efficiently extract the rotational part of a $3{\times}3$ matrix that changes continuously in time. This is the key technique in the corotational FEM and the shape matching deformation popular in physics-based dynamic deformation. Recently, in contrast to the traditional polar decomposition methods independent of time, an iterative method was proposed that formulates the rotation extraction in a physics-based way and exploits an incremental representation of rotation. We develop an optimization method that reduces the number of iterations under the assumption that the maximum magnitude of the incremental rotation vector is limited within ${\pi}/2$. Realistic simulation of dynamic deformation employs a sufficiently small time step, and thus this assumption is not problematic in practice. We demonstrate the efficiency and practicality of our method in various experiments.

  • An optimized PI controller design method is presented to promote the control performance of an oil cooler system for high precision machine tools. First, a transfer function model of the oil cooler system with a variable rotating speed compressor was obtained by the perturbation method as the first order system with a negligible dead time. Then, the closed-loop control system was described as the second order system with a zero. Its dynamic behaviors are mostly governed by characteristic parameters, the damping ratio, and the natural frequency which is incorporated in PI gains. Next, an optimum integral of the time-weighted absolute error (ITAE) criterion was applied to the second order system. The characteristic parameters can be determined by the given design specifications, percent overshoots and settling times and comparisons with the ITAE criterion. Hence, the PI gains were plainly identified in a deterministic way. Finally, the PI gains were fine-tuned to obtain desirable dynamics in real systems, considering the zero effect and parameter variations. The validity of the proposed method was proven by computer simulations and real experiments for selected cases.

  • The objective of this research was to test whether, under controlled laboratory conditions, hybrid SNCR/SCR process improves N $O_{x}$ removal efficiency in comparison with the SNCR only. The hybrid process is a combination of a redesigned existing SNCR with a new downstream SCR. N $O_{x}$ reduction experiments using a hybrid SNCR/SCR process have been conducted in simple NO/N $H_3$/ $O_2$ gas mixtures. Total gas flow rate was kept constant 4 liter/min throughout the SNCR and SCR reactors, where initial N $O_{x}$ concentration was 500 ppm in the presence of 5% or 15% $O_2$. Commercial catalysts, $V_2$ $O_{5}$ -W $O_3$-S $O_4$/Ti $O_2$, were used for SCR N $O_{x}$ reduction. The residence time and space velocity were around 1.67 seconds and 2,400 $h^{-1}$ or 6000 $h^{-1}$ in SNCR and SCR reactors, respectively. N $O_{x}$ reduction of the hybrid system was always higher than could be achieved by SNCR alone at a given value of N $H_{3SLIP}$. Optimization of the hybrid system performance requires maximizing N $O_{x}$ removal in the SNCR process. An analysis based on the hybrid system performance in this lab-scale work indicates that a equipment with N $O_{xi}$ =500 ppm will achieve a total N $O_{x}$ removal of about 90 percent with N $H_{3SLIP}$ $\leq$ 5 ppm only if the SNCR N $O_{x}$ reduction is at least 60 percent. A hybrid SNCR/SCR process has shown about 26∼37% more N $O_{x}$ reduction than a SNCR unit process in which a lower temperature of 85$0^{\circ}C$ turned out to be more effective.be more effective.
